Sounds like you’re describing WC circa 2019-2021 except this year our fitness is well and truly in the shit and it’s making it 10 times worse

Big positive: some bloke on the train just screamed out “holy fu ck, I just won $80” and all the drunk yobs went ballistic cheering. Was awesome.

For years this team just never, ever, meets the moment, it fails over and over and over and there's too much talent to keep on delivering this. Forward line must be beside themselves, dragging us back into the contest to have the mids and defence just give up for the umpteenth time. Long overdue, time to go coach.

Eric McKenzie used to be the best Eagle until he actually got the ball, then it was cover the eyes on what the hell he was going to do.
I feel the same angst whenever Harry get possession, but he also has some mates who do brilliantly to get it then stuff it up.

Very cool.
Someone on the radio described the Eagles as "a paper team since 2020" referring to us looking like a strong team on paper only.
That's us in a nutshell. All these "stars" in the side haven't played anywhere near what we expect for a long time. Should be moved on the sooner the better so we can invest emotionally in a new generation.

Negatives -
Average =
= Barrass was decent on McKay considering how lazy the team is but just doesn't know when to stay down.
= Foley was alright was never going to replace Cripps output but was pretty decent.
= Kelly looked alright was quiet in the first quarter but lifted in the second quarter but went average in the second half.
= H.Edwards got beaten but held his own at times. Just needs to improve his defensive craft to stop opponents from running and jumping or getting the lead.
= Duggan was ok defensively but turned the ball over.
= Jones attacked with ball in hand but turned the ball over with skill errors and lack of awareness when the corridor is occupied.
= Trew did some nice things but was pretty quiet.
= Bazzo still learning and he did well on Silvagni.
Positives +
Final thoughts.
I expected the Blues to beat us, they beaten Freo who are a top 4 side and would've beaten the Saints had they kicked straight. The club's defensive zone was sat deep and players failing to account for an opponent which allows them to rack uncontested marks. It looked better in the second quarter when the club upped it's effort and defended man on man but at the end the club was cooked to maintain such intensity due to lack of fitness and having a giant side.
- First and final terms, poor in the first and was cooked in the final term.
- Rioli's turnover in the final but even if that kick was good to JK and he scored, they still would've overrun us because we're badly cooked ourselves trying to get back in.
- Not helped by playing a tall side.
- Nic Nat looking fat and unfit. Got beaten by De Konning early on and Silvagni also beaten him too.
- Fitness not up to standard.
- Redden looking down.
- Ryan just looks beaten up and cooked. Mistiming his jumps, being out of position and not chasing enough.
- Gaff's 30 possessions are nothing and useless. Trade him and relive salary cap.
- Clark was trash once Petch went out. Looked better with Petch out there before he went off.
- McKay and Curnow having field days against us.
- B.Williams useless, just doesn't take enough marks and is a liability at ground level.
Average =

- Darling provided a target all day and worked hard.
- JK making most of his limited chances.
- Hurn still got it.
- Hough will be a gun in the future. If we get Chesser right then we're good.
- Shuey using the ball well.

My most disappointing player this year is Liam Ryan, the same player who I had inside the top 15 in the top 50 two years ago. He wouldn’t be in the top 300 if we did a list right now. Can you remember the second half of the 2020 season? It was phenomenal, all marks and goals, and playing tricks with the opposition and the match-up between Ryan and Collingwood’s Brayden Maynard in the elimination final was a pleasure to watch. This season, he’s kicked 14 goals from 11 games and averages 10 disposals. When I say disappointing, I’m disappointed for him and for all football fans because he was the ultimate entertainer. Now, he just looks lost. Let’s hope he can get it back.

Substandard fitness levels strike once again.
Despite all the injury and Covid impacts, the consistent theme throughout this season has been the continuance of selecting players that can barely run out a single quarter of AFL football, lest four.
The team was completely cooked before three-quarter time, and it sullied the performance of the fightback during the second quarter.
4th Quarter
Clearances: -9
Contested Possessions: -17
Disposals: -72
Scoring shots: -11
It's hard to judge where this team really is at when the conditioning continues to be at such a poor level.
This team is still by far the most lacking in fitness that I have seen playing at top level, and noticeably so.
Combined with the near-comical management of injuries over recent seasons, it can be argued that a comprehensive cleanout of all things related to strength and conditioning should be the number one priority in improving the club's fortunes.
