I dont think anybody doubts Nics ability, but there has long been issues with his fitness and weight

I for one am more then ok with him signing for 2 years, provided he is fully committed to getting leaner, getting fitter and better preparing himself.

If he presents to this pre season in the same condition as last year and the club keeps giving him a free pass about it everyone is taking the piss

How nice would it be hearing Nicnat come back in career best shape, because he's signed on for 2 years during a "rebuild" phase and the club is backing him in to get his body right so he wants to get the most out of his career and for the club, come back and shave some seconds off his PB and really show some intent with his fitness for 2023....

Only if a 13 year history is anything to go by, we know that isn't remotely going to happen.
There are two ways Nic could go:

1) "i am a the twilight of my career and I have a child on the way, and the club is struggling. This year, I am going to be strict with my diet to get my weight down and have the pre season of my life!"

2) "Babe, grab the phone! Domino's is running a special atm!"

Well that throws a spanner in the works for us if we were planing on trading pick 2 for multiple later rnd one picks.

North now wanting to do the same for pick 1.

Unlike North we haven't yet come out and said that we would though. Just rumours on our end.

We should absolutely monitor any interest in pick 1.

Because North are all about marketing, and will want to market the hell out of the 'massive winning deal' they would get for trading the 'highly prized' pick #1 (note teams would have to pay a pick #1 premium plus price, for what will end up being pick #2 in a relatively even possibly weak draft).

If we got a deal relative to pick #2 (not huge overs, just a fair deal) then it might be worth taking it - as it is actually pick #3. i.e. teams might not want to deal with North and will happily take pick #3 instead of #2 as they player they want will be there.

*as long as it’s not to North Melbourne via the PSD

Now agreeing to do THAT, would be dirty.

but honestly, the club is in the s**t, any bloke who wants out should be quickly jettisoned, you need every bloke on the list pulling in the same direction at times like this.

Well it depends on a couple of things:

  • how early the PSD call is made
  • if he is the only player entering the PSD

In theory (and I know we don't operate this way, and even if we did it would be unlikely to eventuate) if the Jackson/Freo negotiations take a sour turn, and North are 100% committed to Rioli in the PSD, then that is a net gain for us (if we can take Jackson via PSD).

But I think we would get a deal done with North if Rioli decides that is his destination. Rawlings is there, and the relationship would be relatively amicable, we'll work something out.

As long as it isn't Essendon, as Dodoro will just low-ball as per usual.

Yeah so presumably it’s an extra year for less coin per year. We also pay jack all of his total salary under the cap. My bet is it’s laid out to convert to a coaching contract if he retires end of next year or doesn’t achieve his triggers.

If Willie leaves (or anyone who leaves) I hope they are happy and successful in life but wish them no luck on field and never want to see guys who leave as premiership players for oppo sides.

I was ok seeing Matt Spangher be a premiership player.

I have a list of teams i despise, but considering that covers over half the league i'm then left looking for who to support in the finals based on connections. If Jnr does leave, i'd rather see him and whoever win, then a bunch of flogs from elsewhere (this is all on the assumption that we aren't a realistic finals / GF contender).

There are 17 teams on my list, how many on yours

Yeah I felt happy for Matt Clape in Carltons 95 flag coz I liked him in the Eagles early 90s side.

Connell and Laidley meh

Jason Ball mixed coz he had one already with us but his was v us.

J.Schofield hopefully can win one with us as an ass. coach or by then head coach

I can't fathom how multiple elite athlete from 1 team have been quite a bit below 100% fitness. Particularly in a flag window. I have my doubts about NicNat slimming down in the off season. If we again have multiple players who aren't fit - Simmo needs to be sacked.
sports science not the coach. It is now an expert field (outside of WC)

If North get a start of first PP they will almost certainly downgrade the pick, honestly that would piss me off more than them actually getting the pick itself.

But the coach must intervene. I don't for a second believe a pro S&C team would happily agree to players being in that shape. So someone stopped them from doing their job.

I don’t for a second believe that a professional marketing department would have green lit that Birds of Tokyo song if Simpson hadn’t intervened. He should be sacked.
What is it you don't understand about Simmo being on a results based contract?

ps why do you always have to carry on like an absolute knob?

Am I reading this right?
So in your opinion, Simmo got involved with the S&C people and told them to stop doing their job?

Sounds reasonable.

If Jnr leaves I hope he chops it up. Great player to watch. Plus its not like he'll be taking his new side to the glory we'd be experiencing. We'll be down the bottom half of the ladder in coming seasons so I hope he goes well. A scintillating Rioli is good for footy.
