To me we have spent 20 years stuffing up most of our high draft picks. To gamble on turning them into a better pick is just a straight out no. Unless he's demanding to leave or we can't afford to pay him he should be the most untouchable player on the list. Probably the only with obvious elite potential, His value is only going up not down.

We can't even cover the players we do have if there is an injury at the moment. I hate the idea of selling required players for draft picks. Geelong made it a fashion to not draft and pick up mature talent.....we followed it and it hasn't reaped rewards. Now some sides with heavy youth quotas are winning and now we are flip flopping the other way. Perhaps just build a good list and don't worry about what others do.

I think my analogy with Clark and calf is spot on. You get a kid, fatten him up and when he just needs another few months in the paddock to get him ready for the sales yard we are looking at off loading him so that we can pay the same amount for a younger calf and do it all again. It's just list management wank, nothing about it makes any sense.

Freo didn't get better because Cerra walked out, they got better because they spent the last 6 years drafting hard and Hill gave them a huge suite of picks to use at the draft which then lets them dump Acres who will get them more picks. That's a much better model than our buy high sell low cycle.
Yes he should start winning us games and kicking 60 plus. With a better forward structure he’ll just get better and yes we’ve got him go the point where he’s a genuine weapon with ten years left. I’m just reflecting on the hypothetical and despite all king has going for him and despite our attachment to him everyone has a price even if it‘s ridiculous one that nobody would pay.

Also we have to keep him happy and pay him which is another dimension to why players are traded. Richmond were lucky enough to get a 25 year old Tom lynch because he wanted out, he took less money and GC received pick 3 as compensation. How many teams do you think pitched deals some worth more than richmond, do you think nobody will try to prize king away from us. Anyway it’s an interesting discussion you could have about any number of players at different clubs. Grundy looked untouchable when he signed that huge contract, now he’s getting pushed out the door for unders and with cash tied around his neck, funny game football.

We're getting DeGoey. Nope.
We're getting Lobb. Nope.
We're getting Kyle Hartigan. Maybe.
We're going to trade Clark out and bring back Hanners. Sounds like us.

At least we can still dream of Stocker and Dow. Perhaps we could give them the Clark pick for them.

In the book and movie "Shawshank Redemption" there is a scene where the inmates are re-tarring the roof of the license plate factory, and the head of the guards is moaning about his bad luck in getting a significant inheritance from an uncle he didn't know existed that ended up very wealthy before he died. You remind me of that head of the guards.......

You know we‘ll pull a rabbit out the only question is where from 😳

Gettable....much like Clark and Hill, everyone is gettable, it's a business....people tend to forget that.

Happens at every club....until they get traded, it's not worth getting shirty over because chances are, there a little to no legs for it to run.. Screenshot_20220912-085901_Facebook.jpg

What's funny is that everyone thinks that Carlton is just going to turn up and play finals next year and we are going to fall over. I think internally we are panicking as well but it was a near identical season with their early season seeing them sitting 8 and 3 and then stumbling through the second half of the season. Only ended with one more win in the end and still missed finals. Got a couple of softer games than us too.

I think their form looked closer to winning than ours in the late part of the year and their systems looked more solid, while we were uncompetitive for a lot of games but it's funny how teams are perceived.
I think ours was a slow drawn out death and there's, to me anyway, was quite violent. They seemingly fell off a cliff immediately and within a few weeks they'd gone from pushing top 4 to missing entirely. In way it's probably worse for their supporters to comprehend, whereas we had weeks to come to the realisation that we'd shat the bed.

But what has ten years ago got to do with today? There's barely anyone in the football department that was there a year ago.
I'm waiting for someone to bring up the Ian Stewart trade as proof that we'll stuff this years trade period up.
That was a truly lousy trade, billy barrot. Other clubs don’t see us coming they call us up, such is our level of incompetence.

They really had the talent and fouled things up badly.

Yeah it's pretty embarrassing. We had half a season of good football, they had about 18 weeks. I can't believe they missed from the position they were in.

wasn't he "Richoed" though?
Who knows?
He certainly was the scapegoat on a couple of occasions, and dropped fairly frequently.

I was one of quite a few on here who was not happy to see him go.

We lost games through bad kicking (and a couple of other things), they could never hold a lead. That was the previous year or so as well.

I watched a lot of them, very frustrating team that seemed to just fall asleep for periods. Voss really needs a plan B because when the opposition get a run on carlton just go missing.

Its was obvious the club had moved on from Hannebery and appeared to force him into retirement. I think he thinks he has finally got his body right? Perhaps the medical staff have no faith in his body holding up which is understandable.

I think it would be reasonable of the club to suggest to Hannebery to do a preseason and if you get through we will add you to the rookie list as a DFA? With game bonuses...

Except at the Saints we are tarring the roof and the other sides are discussing their inheritance. I want my time at the top.

Yeah, they dragged them to the edge of victory only to shoot them all in the heart one last time. We at least knew we were gone from pretty much the Essendon game.

You don't really get the concept of a forum thread that is for supporters to discuss possible trades do you?

Hold on, are you telling me my trade ideas for 5 top 10 picks won't be used by the club?
Well that sucks. I thought they took all the ideas on here, put them in a hat and picked the winners!

Carlton had a brand new coach in Michael Voss, it was his first year and he ended up doing a really good job.

I think the issue with Cripps getting off suspension may have destabilized them for the last couple of games. Everyone knew it was wrong that he got off and maybe it affected the players and outcome. Cripps certainly didn't play that that well in the last two games.

Anyway I'm not one to compare us against other poor teams and take solace out of it.... "hey at least we aren't Essendon" mentality.

I'd rather compare us to Collingwood, Freo, Bulldogs and any other side that made the finals and ask why we aren't there with them.

It’s a risk no matter how much lipstick is put in it
If the club thought Clark was a star, he would be max king untouchable…apparently not so.
Now it only puts doubt in Clarks mind.
Most likely he doesn’t get traded, but the doubt remains.

It’s poor player management, wellfare and retention strategy.

I think also the clubs recruitment between 2009-2018 - the McCartin fiasco, Hill, Hannebury, ….has meant many fans have lost trust in the club, regardless of the admin turn over. It takes a long time to build trust but it can be lost in the blink on an eye. The post bye capitulation is just the icing on the lost trust cake, which is now on the coaching and playing group.

So now everything the saints do is questioned. Including trading and list management….make your bed I suppose
This is how the rumours around Clark should be dealt with..seems blues arnt too busy doing ‘other things’ other than respond to media ‘rumours’ and prioritise controlling the narrative around their players and their movement..

Because we suck
We have too many rejects from other clubs.
Not enough draft picks
No talent development
Coaches who can't coach
Game plan sucks
Kick it too often to King
King can't kick straight nor can Higgins.
We move the ball too slow
We move the ball too fast and turn it over.
We get rid of players just as they are at their prime.
We recruit hacks who no one else wants.
Our administration is shit
President is a flog and needs to be held accountable for on field performance.
We need GT back

To quote Genry Blake of MASH to Klinger
Half the side is injured the other half pregnant.

Makes as much sense as the bs that this forum puts up....

Just having fun. Would you rather barrack for the Blues?

Go Saints
