168 pages of nothing. Go back to bed and come back in a month. Who knows, an actual trade might actually have happened by then.
Well you know, SOME teams are still playing footy… 😔

What equalisation? F/S and academies make a mockery of any claim to equalisation, Geelong's money seems to be worth more than other clubs, Richmond etc...

It's not that their money is worth more. This is the same story as in most sports - player development matters.

Imagine Cam Guthrie at St Kilda. He would have had basically the same career as Jack Newnes. Middling draft pick, played plenty of games early, looked ok, never quite took the next step, never quite found an AFL level workrate, etc.

Instead somehow Guthrie - a pretty vanilla player without any standout attributes - becomes AA and has a year where he gets 18 Brownlow votes. Can't imagine anything like that happening at St Kilda through that time.

It's all about development. It's a simple sell to Bruhn to say "want to be a top player? we won't pay you top dollar but if you come here and learn from our culture you'll make the most of your career". Whereas all we can say is "come to the Saints, we'll pay you good money and we have a roadmap to make finals in 6 - 8 years".

Same as in every sport. Success breeds success, and the good clubs sell that very credibly.

We failed to do that effectively through 2010 - 2014 and since then we've had nothing to sell. So we start from the bottom again.

Players want to play for a successful and exciting team. We were a bit of a destination club when our directory was upwards. Unfortunately the last two years performances and results have put a big dent in that.

We need to start concentrating more on football results, not money making, stadium building or being a social barometer.

Basset has outlined this, more focus on football results... but it staggers me that so many people at the club got promotions when our on-field results were not so good... maybe they have different KPI's which aren't based on the onfield results.

So far they haven't done anything to show they actually care about on field results. Bassat is all hot air until he gets his arse into gear and starts to demand some results.

Basset cares more about trying to invent marquee games and keeps forgetting one will only ever work if we have a team that actually plays watchable footy first.

Enjoy playing VFL for a few years he would be 6th in line to play midfield & I’d think Miers would want a crack in there as well, like I’ve said player managers are neglect in sending players to a club to play 2s footy.

Geelong have an ordinary midfield and Danger and Selwood at the end. He probably gets a role easier than he would at the Saints. We have a bigger pool of good mids that would keep him out

He would replace 1 of our ordinary mid like Jones.

So would one of Windhager or Owens and who ever we get at the draft. Just got to make these drafts count from now on. No more Allison type speculative random picks.

Bruhn would have been nice but not at the expense of our first pick. I think Geelong's pick around 17 to 19 will be about right and our second would have been too little.

Was such a nice change to have all three of last years draftees able to come in and play a good amount of games.
Thats what I want this year. Kids who can come in right away and play at least a handful of games.
I don’t even want to hear the words “project players.”

For the record, I like Basset. You don't get to where he is in the business world without being a very smart businessman.

I really hope he can go with his gut this review and make the right decisions to improve our onfield performance.

Has Rory Lobb been covered?

Well could only suggest that it looks more likely that we try to grab some of these multiple picks that GWS will get and mini reset.

If we could who would be on GWS' radar?
Doubt Clark would be. Would they still want Gresham? Of course it would have to be very much in our favour.
Owens and Windy?

We’ll see if he puts his money where his mouth is and does not sell an interstate game this season.
In a radio interview I heard a while back he said they doubted they’d do it next season.
We’ll see.

Look I agree he needs support. But at the same time I think the most effective way to improve our forward line is to work on goal kicking.
I disagree a little, I think the big problem with our forward line is where we are taking the shots from. We need to work on our disposal going inside 50 and having a better gameplan then bomb it long and hopefully Max will bring it to ground.
