I look at Collingwood and I don’t see them with a deal more top talent than us, or a pound for pound better bottom 6 players than us.

I look at collingwood and see a team who sacked their dud coach and now their players are getting the best out of themselves.

Lucky we are currently doing a club review which is explicitly NOT looking at whether the head coach is the right guy for the job.

Clearly unlike bucks, ratts IS the right man for the job because SOOO many of our players have played career best footy for the last 2 years.

I hope the review tackles the big issues- like how Kristy in the Moorabbin cafe sometimes forgets to close the fridge door and the powerbill is 4% higher this year.

Because we suck
We have too many rejects from other clubs.
Not enough draft picks
No talent development
Coaches who can't coach
Game plan sucks
Kick it too often to King
King can't kick straight nor can Higgins.
We move the ball too slow
We move the ball too fast and turn it over.
We get rid of players just as they are at their prime.
We recruit hacks who no one else wants.
Our administration is s**t
President is a flog and needs to be held accountable for on field performance.
We need GT back

To quote Genry Blake of MASH to Klinger
Half the side is injured the other half pregnant.

Makes as much sense as the bs that this forum puts up....

Just having fun. Would you rather barrack for the Blues?

Go Saints

I’m pretty down on the club but I think our list is pretty good, I can see this group as a top 4 team. I think the game plan is terrible and perhaps the work ethic of some players isn’t up to scratch.
I don’t understand why Hill is so ineffective. Maybe he’s lost his speed, it seemed like that to me late in the year.

I think the coaching staff are the major problem, I can’t see any amount of trade ins would make a material difference on field.

Those issues could well be related, i wonder if Noble even notices the fridge, especially if he sees the knife drawer first.

RECENT RETIREE OPEN TO AFL RETURN

Former Sydney and St Kilda star Dan Hannebery hasn’t ruled out the prospect of a return to AFL level in 2023.

Hannebery called time on his tenure at the Saints this year after managing just 18 games across four seasons to injuries.

Still, AFL reporter Damian Barrett told the Sunday Footy Show there remained “some interest” in Hannebery at other clubs, with Hannebery himself leaving the door ajar for a return.

“To be honest, I’m not too sure. It’s been a tough four years, both mentally and physically,” Hannebery said on Channel Nine.

“We put a lot of work in, but I felt we got it right at the end there. I haven’t really spoken too much to my manager about it or thought too much about it.”

The 31-year-old added: “I’m enjoying retirement, albeit for three weeks but we’ll see how we go. I’m trying not to blow out too much. I’ve been for a few runs so far and I feel okay.

“I’d have to think about it, but at this stage, the body feels pretty good.

“Diplomatically, I’ll say that I’m retired for the moment.”

---

So hypothetically he can just retire and then move to another club if he wants to?

I don't think he is a free agent and I hope we'd block this from happening and force some kind of return given that we gave him a good contract for 4 years and got pretty much nothing out of it.

Unless we have delisted him and retirement was just the narrative that he wanted to use. I am guessing it's this.

As long as the list clogger doesn't end up back at the Saints i think he's quite welcome to familiarise himself with another clubs rehab facilities.

This is how the rumours around Clark should be dealt with..seems blues arnt too busy doing ‘other things’ other than respond to media ‘rumours’ and prioritise controlling the narrative around their players and their movement..
Didn't say he wasn't gettable just not looking to trade him. Exactly the same as Clark.

It was the end of his contract, we didn't want to re-sign him so we basically forced him to retire. No compo for us if he goes elsewhere.

I think we need some variation. Geelong look like they are containing two KPFs off winning or losing a premiership. Their obviousness is their weakness. If you have multiple avenues to goals you are a much more dangerous side. Sydney look a nightmare to contain because so many can get you on the score board.
Look I agree he needs support. But at the same time I think the most effective way to improve our forward line is to work on goal kicking.

Gonna be a grim reality check with all these players choose other clubs over us
We are sadly not a destination club. Maybe sometime in the future, but not now. Been that way for a long time.

Meanwhile, the richer resourced clubs get richer. Equalisation doesn’t work for us.

Same thing happened with Luke Hodge. Brisbane ended up giving Hawthorn a late pick in a trade.

Fair chance we told him to retire though so I'm not sure we can expect anything.

Even if we didn't, he's played 17 games in 4 years. We aren't going to get anything in a trade for him.

What equalisation? F/S and academies make a mockery of any claim to equalisation, Geelong's money seems to be worth more than other clubs, Richmond etc...

The AFL got pretty flat in the 2000s, then they abolished automatic priority picks and brought in two clubs, one of whom they've since helped further, the other is going on the endless cycle of players out, 1st round picks in.

Apart from Richmond, Collingwood and Geelong I’m not sure it’s working for too many other clubs either.
The AFL admitted a couple of years ago that if a club had enough money they could stay up the top end of the ladder indefinitely. As long as the profitability of the AFL is the number one priority nothing will change.

Players want to play for a successful and exciting team. We were a bit of a destination club when our directory was upwards. Unfortunately the last two years performances and results have put a big dent in that.

We need to start concentrating more on football results, not money making, stadium building or being a social barometer.

Basset has outlined this, more focus on football results... but it staggers me that so many people at the club got promotions when our on-field results were not so good... maybe they have different KPI's which aren't based on the onfield results.

So with this in mind, we load up on dps and try to build through the draft.

Other clubs have climbed the mountain from where we are. Richmond and Melbourne were both in our position. You just have to work harder and be more strategic. Most of our bad luck has been self imposed through poor decision making. Hopefully that has turned and we can become one that gets all the rewards.

Would be compo pick #173 or something anyway 😝

The problem with that is we have done it upside down. If that's the case it's probably a 3 to 5 years build if we do a soft refresh, 5 to 7 for a full rebuild, 10+ if we don't get it right.

If we are going to cut hard we need to hire the best recruiter we can find. Start to trade out all the expendable players over 27. Unfortunately the way we have built means that we probably don't have much of value to trade out that we want to lose.

I'd rather get a new coach, try to load up one last time and just keep adding kids through the draft. No more old crocks. Rookie list and midseason draft on top of the ND.
