If we are pushing out Hill and Clark then the question remains, what are we getting in? Why would we want money off the books just to be worse on the field?

It seems everyone thinks JDG will stay at Pies and Bowes goes to Geelong so I'm struggling to see what we get in. We're basically not linked to anyone. The picks being talked about seem like junk too, a future second? What's the point?

We’re bringing Hanners back on a 5 year, 900k per season deal

No comment on his performance but I hear some of the most vile s**t thrown his way by our supporters some weeks. Hurts to imagine saints fans shitting on our own
Where do you sit as I have never heard anything racist said about Hill , iv heard people pay out on him for a turnover the same as any other player

Really not a huge fan of the JDG approach.

We haven't got our last two high priced recruits right, so I don't really trust our football department to get this one right either.

This just seems another messiah type idea... third time lucky for the current football department.

Just another high priced gamble, I'd rather grow from within. Take our punishment for a botched rebuild, learn from our mistakes and do it right this time.

Level 1 wing ish. Usual turnover Criticism which is fine but the third or fourth time they chirp up they feel the need to start adding in comments about his race. Lack of creativity.

Our record with high priced recruits is mostly not good. Firstly in that 1/ we do not land them and 2/ when we do that it does not work out.

Hannas, Hill, Jones have all underdelivered. Howard ok. Paddy wasa "bargain bin" acquisition who was "steak knives" on the Howard deal.

Lovett grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :(

Whereas, Cats get Smith who wins a Norm Smith! Cats are ina great postion now. Quality players like Cameron hace queued up to get there and they already have two new quality players wanting to be there next year. So will havea retirement or two, but already have good proven stock coming to them.

Our success in recent times has mainly been the lesser lights from other clubs from Demspter to Steele. Though Schneider was good value.

Gardiner was one "flawed diamond" who worked well for us. Yes he still had some injuries, but we got him economically and so he was still really a "bargain bin" acquisition.

My thoughts

Not enough for Clark
Too much for Hill
Too much for Long, but would be nice
Fair enough for Bytel, but might end up with less
Byrne's just signed
Might struggle to get anything for Highmore
Not sure why we'd want to give away Lienart and Campbell
Not saying we want to just went with players who I had read had looked around (eg.Byrnes)
and players OOC (Lienert, Campbell)

For the record I would happily keep all of them

I sit level 2 HFF and have never heard racial abuse

I really can't even contemplate any of this.

Given our history with Nicky Winmar, Robbie Muir, Gilbert McAdam etc

I would hope all our supporters are extremely educated when it comes to anything like this, if I heard anything like this in real life... I would stand up and call it out, no matter who the person was.

I think Campbell signed another year
Missed that one but happy for that to be the case. Had a bloody good VFL year and is a handy replacement for Marshall if needed.

It hasn't been made official but apparently he told people he has signed on for a year.

As Geelong swept all before them and didn't lose after R9, I decided to go back and watch that game.
Co incidently it was against the Saints.

Anybody who states we have no gameplan needs to go back and watch that game.

After a see sawing 1st half, it seemed the Cats were getting on top, they played very similar to most games I saw them in this year, using their mid pressure to rush forward entry kicks and have Tom Stewart clean up.
First good move was to nullify Stewart by playing Sharman on him. The easy outs from defence to a free HBF'er were stifled and we got stoppages and repeat entries.

In the third they got 22 points ahead mainly by drawing our half forwards down the ground so when we won the ball we had nobody to kick to especially on the skinny side.
This is where our mids and half backs got to work, instead of kicking to a congested skinny side players like Gres would wait until a mid or Hill would work to the centre of ground, Seb or Hill would then hit the fat side getting the ball from inside to outside on a number of occasions very quickly and getting us within range
Once we got on a roll, Rohan was winning the centre contests mainly to Seb and Crouch who would set up forward inside 50's. The 6 6 6 rule was exploited and our midfield with Seb and Zac Jones giving us run and carry. The half forwards could play higher and we got repeat entries and goals.
Using the gameplan effectively we scored 6 goals in 14 minutes. Geelong have a fantastic gameplan and work ethic however if you can get the switch inside then outside quickly, they don't have the legs.
4th quarter very different, Geelong got within 3 points and the quarter became an arm wrestle, Paddy was the difference, Geelong concentrated on Max and Paddy as the second tall sealed the game.

It showed when we played with pressure, confidence and flair ( both Jones and Gres were excellent) we can match and outplay the best.
When we lose confidence, get hesitant and make mistakes we go into our shell. We made lots of mistakes v Geelong but they tidied up and went again. This is the difference between pre and post bye. Losing players with flair like Gres, and Jones who lost all form really hampered our run.
However after watching R9 where we matched and beat the best team of the year, I refuse to believe we have no gameplan.
Gresh is underrated in this place
Super player

Jones is replaceable

Where's Jonny Digits at, I want confirmation of Ben King signing by today

Just hope JDG‘s failure to commit either way at this stage doesn’t hinder our list management trying to work on other deals.
The review, if still going, could also slow down things.
Hopefully they can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Not looking super exciting according to the fox footy trade rumours. Bowes and Stocker not exactly going to change everything for us

Depends if Bowes arrives with a good pick, I suppose.

Think the trade period should be all about trying to improve our draft hand anyway. That’s where the work has to be done.

Don’t want the raft of huge signings at the expense of the draft, like previously.

Dont know much about Stocker, but do we want other team’s de-listings? Will he be for us like Dunstan to the Dees?

Really hope we are keeping Clark. Interesting the article mentions Jones. I reckon he gets another deal. Obviously had a nightmare personal life last year, but he’s shown better than that.

To play devils advocate, I'd argue Isaac Smith yesterday played exactly the role we would have been hoping Hill would play when we brought him over. He's shown he's capable of it on occasion and I think he'd look a million times better in a side like Geelong or Demons. If he wants to go to North on the other hand, good luck to him, he'll either find it even tougher going or end up splitting the chippies with fellow seagull Hall in the back pocket.

Smith has always been more of a scoring wingman than Brad. Brad Hill was always that elite runner who could link all the way up the ground. He still does that for us and as disappointing as he's been for the money we have to replace that if he goes. He's often providing the option even when they don't use him so he draws a player.

Stocker s a bit different to Dunstan in that he's still young enough to improve. He's probably more like getting delisted Leo Connolly or something.

Jones is already contracted for next year.
