List Mgmt. 2022 Trade Thread - Part III

We have 1 1st and a 2nd. Nearly every club in the AFL has that or more. How do we get an edge in the draft if we are not drafting more quality than everyone else is?

Sent from my SM-S908E using Tapatalk
Probably development which is another of our weak points. They say this guy Carroll is very good, but we probably aren’t going to see that for a while. Although the three main draft choices last year have shaped better than any for a while.

But it sure isn’t giving those draft picks away or downgrading them for some doubtful return. It is also possible we get more of our share giving up a player or two. Hill or Clark for overs. Nobody seems that keen on giving Clark up though.

Hill for overs? With his salary? Doubtful. Long possibly gets us something. No one else on the radar.

We can get better by those on our list doing what they are meant to do. Luck with injuries. And better coaching. All possible.

Whilst he was the consensus 3 pick, I think some might have taken Aish at 3 as well. But yeah, pretty crazy for Rendell to say that lol.

Its an interesting top 10 now really.
Boyd. Major spuddedness, but sneakily traded for a first rounder and player *
Kelly. Came out pretty much as expected. Maybe a bit soft.
Billings. Has some ability, but is perhaps more suited as the forward that he was at the time.
Bont. Yes I know. We all know.
Kaladashnij, retired due to concussion, but was never anywhere near as good as expected.
Scharenberg. Injured. Had to wait for ever to find out he was a spud.
Aish. Probably more underwhelming than Billings.
McDonald. OK...ish.
Salem. Goes OK, who'd have thunk it.
Freeman. Not a great year for Collingwood's recruiters.

By 2014 * GWS had worked out that list managers are GULLABLE.
Boyd traded for pick 6 and Griffin.
pick 19 for O'Rourke
19 into 7 with the help of Whiley and Jackshshshs.

Collingwood got a first and second for Beams.

Then Collingwood , Melbourne, and Geelong all laughed at how dumb the others were as they switched around Lumbada, Varcoe, and Clark.

Getting caught up in it all Saints did a great deal trading Stanley to Geelong, until....after the laughing died down, the trainee receptionist said,...." so who is our forward/ruck now "? DOHHH.

ST KILDA'S hunt for key-position depth has narrowed on Western Bulldogs defender Zaine Cordy, after previously enquiring about in-demand Cat Esava Ratugolea and delisted Hawk Kyle Hartigan.
While the Saints have Dougal Howard and Cal Wilkie in defence, aside from Josh Battle, Brett Ratten is light on for options in the event of injury and desperate for depth.
INDICATIVE DRAFT ORDER Every club's hand as it stands
AFL.com.au understands that the club showed interest in Ratugolea and Hartigan in the second half of the season, as well as contracted Swan Lewis Melican who didn't play a senior game in 2022 but has 52 games of AFL experience next to his name.
AFL.com.au's Inside Trading flagged St Kilda's interest in Cordy on Monday.
Ratugolea is contracted for next year and was initially expected to remain at Geelong and fight for a spot, but the swingman has attracted interested from multiple clubs and appears increasingly likely to land at a new home.

Hartigan wasn’t offered a new contract after two seasons at the Hawks, following 22 games at Waverley Park after 113 for Adelaide, and was considered an option but that interest is believed to have cooled.
The 25-year-old Cordy has a two-year deal on the table to remain at the Whitten Oval, but has been considering his options after the Bulldogs signed Liam Jones, with belief growing that St Kilda can land the 2016 premiership player.
Cordy is an unrestricted free agent and can find his way to Moorabbin for nothing before Friday's free agency deadline. – Josh Gabelich

We have 6 lists spots open with 2 others still OOC. We definitely aren't going to fill all those spots with draftees. And this type of pick up doesn't stop us from drafting a young key defender.

What would be dumb is going into next year without filling the hole created by delisting Joyce and having our only opinions if Howard gets injured again as either Oscar Adams or a yet to be drafted player we don't even know will be there at our picks.

We are unlikely to win the premiership but getting some mature depth means we also aren't going to give up on finals at the first sign of injury and will have some mature bodies at Sandy to play alongside the kids and aid their development.

Great, get rid of Irish and Bytel and bring in Dow and Cordy. It's stepping sideways....if sideways was the stepping Cordy was doing on Mad Monday.

It’s really not that bad so long as there’s a second part to this then the strategy is fine. Cordy is a decent if uninspiring defender who will do the job and Mitchell is a ball magnet. Add those 2 and a decent run with injuries and a spot in the 8 is realistic. The kicker is we need more early draft picks to move our development forward. Hell I’ll put it out there that Mitchell will have imo as much impact on our side as DeGoey would have. I think if we were adding 2 first rounders I’d be pretty happy.
Where are the Mitchell and the two first rounders coming from?

Surely Peter Bell is taking the piss?

He demanded the kings ransom and absolutely bent us over and had his way with us (consensually ffs) for Brad Hill and he’s giving away Logue and Tucker for 2nd and third rounders.

Fmd.

They are going all in on Luke Jackson and unloading anyone on a decent contract at the moment. He's looking like another example of Freo going all out to chase a tall forward that ****s the whole place up. They do as much dumb shit as we do.

we'd still be s**t though... only in tassie... which is even shitter.

it'd be like a cold s**t sandwich with some footy thrown in.

Excuse me!

I have been never been colder that out at numerous Melbourne footy venues....VFL Park / Trevor Barker Oval damn that was cold, Port Melbourne etc.

Tassie is gods country which I live - posting shit like the above is just ignorant. Economy is thriving - and we do not get the hot northerly winds you suckers get in summer just windless beautiful days in the high 20s. Winter has clear blue sky days but kick along with your ignorance.

My daughter goes to uni at Deakin in Burwood I travel to Melbourne reguarly but thank f..k I do not live there.

I love the Saints and love this time of year hope for a positive future through the trade but please do not have cheap shots at Tassie for now reason.

We will take back Rooey, Baldock, Webster, Stewart and ..............Verdun Howelll.

Do not piss in your own pocket.

Saints will be ok - actually think they are starting to be methodical conservative with their trading / drafting. I can understand going for De Goey he is what we need class in the middle.

We now need to invest in Owens, Windhager, Sharman, Gresham, Bytel, Sharman, Hayes whatever else is coming in......

Still believe we need mids not KPDs but what would I know.

I am Tasmanian but will always be a Saints supporter even if we get a team down here but will call out bs

Watched Zane Cordy's 100 game highlight reel. It featured 8 spoils and a few quite decent marks and a few crunching tackles. Not much really special to hang your hat on for 100 games.

Liked what I saw....give him number 2 so he can reprise Danny Frawley with the big spoils over the boundary. Spud Frawley Spud Cordy come on deep down you know you want it.

Costs nothing works as a back up if we have an issue not many 100 game premiership players we can get for nadda.

2013 was meant to be a super draft as well. That is why one top 10 pick a year just isn’t enough. Priority picks seemed like a bad idea but it was the quickest way out of a rebuild, you can stuff up one early pick but it’s very hard to stuff up two.

Don't forget Stocker

I've been up the bush, get in the car and hear all the exciting trade stuff we are into. I'd rather have half a dozen state league players on the list instead of some of these lemons.

Every one will catch on in 4 or 5 years that Gallagher & Leathlean aren't the answer
