List Mgmt. 2022 Trade Thread - Part III

Reading this thread is depressing as a poster said a while ago. And Saints fans on Twitter and Facebook seem ready to slash wrists.

We fans have been mostly saying that we need to draft the best we can in the next few years. Last year was a great start with the three main picks looking very promising. This after years of mostly botched attempts.

I am glad we aren’t chucking away our first two picks just to show ‘we are doing something’. If we did, come draft time we have nothing. Because we haven’t drafted well we have no trade capital. So no extra picks to play with. We all know that.

I don’t see why everyone is so frustrated. Who do you suggest we trade for, and what would we be giving away? That’s why Hill and Clark came into the frame. And Long of course, although last I heard he seemed to maybe backtrack.

I am quite comfortable waiting for the draft, getting some cheap positional needs, and waiting for something to fall out like Treloar did a couple of years ago. All we have done for years is chase our tail going for the quick fix and giving too much away.

I am all for growing our own. We mucked up so many years it is going to take a bit of time as frustrating as that is in the short term. Patience is hard but I frankly do not see another way.

Geelong for example are where they are because they have got more right than wrong and have been consistently doing it for years and years. Yes, they got F/S luck. But they are carefully managed. Our current guys are coming from a long way back…..sadly.

And you never know. Something may be cooking that we just don’t know about. Unlikely, but possible.
We have 1 1st and a 2nd. Nearly every club in the AFL has that or more. How do we get an edge in the draft if we are not drafting more quality than everyone else is?

Relocation to Tassie needs to be viewed as a positive thing. This isn’t working for us.

we'd still be shit though... only in tassie... which is even shitter.

it'd be like a cold shit sandwich with some footy thrown in.

I get that

But we have had this hole now for a few years and have had plenty of time to get list profile in a better spot then it is

There is a reason we have finished 10th & 10th we do a lot of things poorly
I actually agree with you. We need to draft and develop a KPD in-house. Oscar Adams is phase one in that process. Hopefully we get Ethan Phillips at the draft this year.

BUT,

If the club hasn’t got a readymade backup by round 1 they are being negligent.

FWIW my son in law Bulldogs supporter reckons Cordy is extremely frustrating but thinks their poor backline doesn't help.
Thinks he is the best field kick at the Bulldogs
Jesus, where did you go wrong in life?

sorry to hear that Joff. condolences and thinking of you mate!

Richmond look like off loading Soldo in the Hopper deal. Surely with Soldo, Preuss, Briggs & Flynn on GWS books one of Briggs or Flynn would be getting itchy feet. Preferably Flynn as I think he is the better player.

We were always going to pick up a stop gap mature key back - Steven May was not available so Cordy it is - he may well win the Zebras B&F - Break Glass in case of emergency player.

For those saying we should take Ethan Phillips instead we can't just take him he will be in the draft with the other 17 clubs if we prioritised picking him we would probably need to use pick 28 to ensure we got him later than that and he is likely gone to someone else.

I don't rate Cordy but on the plus side the Doggies defensive game is a shambles Bevo places all his eggs into winning the midfield and if they don't their defense is totally exposed. Maybe Enright can use him better.

Also doesn't mean we should overlook Buslinger or Hayes or Phillips if they fall at the right spot in the draft we need a better long term solution than Cordy.

Have a vague memory we bid on Cordy in his draft year when he was Father Son?

I think it was his brother Ayce we bid on, must have been even worse than Zaine.

It’s really not that bad so long as there’s a second part to this then the strategy is fine. Cordy is a decent if uninspiring defender who will do the job and Mitchell is a ball magnet. Add those 2 and a decent run with injuries and a spot in the 8 is realistic. The kicker is we need more early draft picks to move our development forward. Hell I’ll put it out there that Mitchell will have imo as much impact on our side as DeGoey would have. I think if we were adding 2 first rounders I’d be pretty happy.
I agree, Mitchell is an elite Brownlow medal winner. He would instantly be our second best midfielder. You can't have enough good players, look at Pendlebury for the Pies this year.

To bring in a bloke that is an elite player and trainer would be brilliant for us. Unfortunately it just seems too good to be true and I can't see it happening.

Was only our first rounder

Only played 27 games over 7 years. Fortunately the Bulldogs jumped in and saved us from ourselves.

Of course we then proceeded to pick Tom Lynch who ended up being a fine player.

After we flicked him for stuff all to the Crows
