Why would you assume the draftees want to play for North?

Seems improbable.

Na f**k that. I’m done with this club. Too many times this has happen. Taking my membership money elsewhere. Unsubscribing to the Austar. Burning all my kangaroos stuff. The place can get f**ked.

Anyway, what’s everyone’s thoughts on Comben winning the Coleman?
Needs to not get injured when someone breaks wind in his direction

Not a guru at all mate. Recruiting is a game of educated guessing, some just have access to a little more footage and information than others, but if you've watched a handful of games you can form an opinion that has some weight behind it.

I'm not huge on Jefferson but definitely understand how people are bullish on him.

I think Jefferson has the biggest bust potential of the top 20.

Other than a few standout games, there’s not much difference between he and Larkey and Larkey went in the 70’s.

Nick carried significantly less risk at that pick obviously.

Didn't really know where to post my thoughts and musings on this one but I think here will do.

Firstly, I feel like we should have got more, so I'm disappointed like many of you.

Next thing, I think it's clear we wanted JHF gone ASAP. His attitude has clearly rubbed our playing group the wrong way and many of them wanted nothing to do with him once he requested a trade. I know many of you wanted to keep him an extra year, but good luck juggling a kid with a shitty attitude around players that don't like him and want nothing to do with him. Holding him an extra year and playing hardball sounds great in theory when you remove all human emotion, but in reality it wasn't going to work. Can you imagine the amount of energy it would take to try and galvanize a group that has a bloke who everyone knows doesn't want to be there, and the players don't like anyway? The sulking and lip he gave ON THE FIELD was disgraceful enough, imagine forcing him to come back to a club that he's betrayed and what he'd be like when the cameras aren't on him.

I'm conflicted with the Cadman situation. On one hand, it seems we rate Wardlaw, Sheezel and Tsatas in the same tier, and we're trying to lock in two of them - we don't rate Cadman in the same tier which I totally understand. I can sympathise with those who want to lock in a young key position forward and see this as another missed opportunity to do that. Personally, I think Wardlaw and Sheezel are the two best players in this draft so I'd be going best available with them.

Ultimately, I think we tried our absolute best to get a better deal for JHF but it just didn't happen. We decided that there's no chance we wanted him to hang around and negatively impact on the club and playing group for another year, so we shipped him off for the best we could get.

In 3 years we will have a better idea of who won this trade.
Totally agree. Well said! 👍

I think it was a bit short, i think the 12 from GWS should have come to us, given the contract that Port gave JHF and what GWS gave in for pick 1, what we got was below reasonable expectation imo but the club felt it was worth it. We need a better negotiator to handle trades, Rawlings comes across like he would buy sand if he lived in a desert. He has now been reemed in the Brown, CCJ/Tarrant and now JHF deals, we can't afford to keep bleeding value every draft/trade period.

2 and 3 plus future first isn't terrible but Rawlings started talking about possibly trading 3, which makes no sense.

Yeah, given JHF's attitude, I don't think it was tenable for him to come back, but I also don't think Port could realistically backed out of the deal unless we were unreasonable, and I don't think we were. The onus is on the party that chases a contracted player to come to the party. We didn't seem to be asking as much as some in the media believed we should ask for him. Port just lacked the currency to chase him and Rioli and were unreasonable in not expecting to lose anything than mediocre draft picks. We didn't get 2 and 3 from Port, we downgraded our 1 and got 2 from WCE and it seemed the currency we got from GWS funded upgrading that pick. We would have been better off just sticking to the original offer and chasing 2 and 3 ourselves.

It is disappointing we cave on every trade. It is pissweak.

Wait! We dont even no who GWS want to take at pick 1, we assume its Cadman, but since when do clubs draft on a needs basis at pick 1? Maybe they rate Wardlaw as the best player and select him.....
Of course that's what they will do.

This makes me feel much better about the deal. If the players are happy with it, then it's a win.
Are the players happy that JHF is gone, or that we'll get 2 picks in the top 3 and therefore increase our chances of getting a 10-year gun? I know we've heard a bit about JHF's behaviour, but would Cam be so brazen about his joy if it's about JHF?

Rawlings clearly cares about what people think of him more than doing what's best for the club.

Ah that Rawlings is a great bloke so easy to deal with.

Rawlings has really f***** my night by saying we might trade 3. Wtf is he thinking.

I will genuinely piss myself if we finish the week with 2, 10 and 15, 40 and Ports first or something along those lines
In fact copping that in the ass, might be the best case scenario in lieu of 3 for Clark and 9

Or gets his pants pulled down by trading into a first rounder to a team no doubt likely to march up the ladder next year.
