We move on Ferb's. Spilt milk and all that.
Yeah.

**** off Judas you campaigner. Needs a target on his back forever now.

The trading was shithouse tho. I think more heads need to roll.

If we trade our later picks up for one of Brisbane's and end up with an early second the 2, 3, one between 20-25, Harvey, Logue and Tucker that is six players in.

That's probably okay if we get good players with those first three picks

I have a theory the deal will look better through an empty bottle of scotch.
I'll let you know how I go!
Make it two bottles, I haven’t drank alcohol for yrs but supporting our club the last few decades is enough to get me back on the wagon or is it off the wagon lol

Didn't really know where to post my thoughts and musings on this one but I think here will do.

Firstly, I feel like we should have got more, so I'm disappointed like many of you.

Next thing, I think it's clear we wanted JHF gone ASAP. His attitude has clearly rubbed our playing group the wrong way and many of them wanted nothing to do with him once he requested a trade. I know many of you wanted to keep him an extra year, but good luck juggling a kid with a shitty attitude around players that don't like him and want nothing to do with him. Holding him an extra year and playing hardball sounds great in theory when you remove all human emotion, but in reality it wasn't going to work. Can you imagine the amount of energy it would take to try and galvanize a group that has a bloke who everyone knows doesn't want to be there, and the players don't like anyway? The sulking and lip he gave ON THE FIELD was disgraceful enough, imagine forcing him to come back to a club that he's betrayed and what he'd be like when the cameras aren't on him.

I'm conflicted with the Cadman situation. On one hand, it seems we rate Wardlaw, Sheezel and Tsatas in the same tier, and we're trying to lock in two of them - we don't rate Cadman in the same tier which I totally understand. I can sympathise with those who want to lock in a young key position forward and see this as another missed opportunity to do that. Personally, I think Wardlaw and Sheezel are the two best players in this draft so I'd be going best available with them.

Ultimately, I think we tried our absolute best to get a better deal for JHF but it just didn't happen. We decided that there's no chance we wanted him to hang around and negatively impact on the club and playing group for another year, so we shipped him off for the best we could get.

In 3 years we will have a better idea of who won this trade.
Brilliant post.

pick2- wardlaw
Pick3- sheezel

On trade pick 40&43 to Brisbane for pick 21

Pick21- gruzewski (194cm key forward with a huge leap) it’s not all doom and gloom

He's the guy that stopped to pick up the giraffe that couldn't finish the 2k time trial?

40 and 43 are worth less than 21, that would be a Rawling-eque trade.

I think Brisbane has too many picks, they currently have 21, 34, 35, 36, 38, 48, 55, 56 in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, how many list vacancies do they have on the primary list? Have they changed the rules limiting picks to vacancies?

Good soup ;)

Having had some time to stew over it, I'm not as pissed off as I was before. We essentially got rid of a sook who didn't want to be here (a very talented sook, mind you), for pick 2, which will give us the same outcome as it would if it was 1, given that GWS are keen on Cadman. Then we also get pick 3. So we get another crack at the top end talent pool to find a bloke who'll actually play for the jumper. Plus we get to death ride Port, despite the fact that there's no way they're finishing below 10th. We still should've gotten another first out of it, but the negative aspects of this are more related to how well Port did rather than the fact that we got an intrinsically bad deal.

Still, it doesn't inspire faith in Brady, does it. We had a good hand and achieved an ok outcome. Makes you believe that the next CCJ incident is just around the corner
We got less than 2 for JHF. It is more like JHF and F2 for 2 and 40.

Righto, I’ve calmed down a bit and tried to think about this rationally.

For a bit of context, to say JHF was disliked was a bit of an understatement. Rumour from inside the club was there was a bit of a dust up during the silly Sunday celebrations this year between JHF and Bull, He also made some very ordinary comments about a certain club legend who still works at the club. There was some other stuff that he allegedly did that for his sake I hope is incorrect otherwise if I was him I’d grow eyes in the back of my head when he plays North next year.

With that in mind when a player is as cancerous as this you don’t wait and see if he can improve his attitude the next year, the risk to team morale is too great, you just get rid of him.

Now onto the trade. It seems like West Coast were only going to give us pick 2 if they got pick 12 from GWS and GWS knew that.

GWS had us over a barrel and were already giving up 3, 12 and a future 2nd for pick 1.

As a north supporter I would have loved an extra late first round but GWS would have been negligent to give it to us and since we were still getting the player we want (if GWS take Cadman) we mustn’t have thought fighting for an extra pick was worth tanking the deal over.

Just my two cents but JHF had to go and it seems like we did the best we could in the circumstances.

Ah well 🤷🏻‍♂️

So let me get this straight..

We could have traded JHF for 8, F1 and change.

We could have traded independently with GWS for 1 for 3 and 12.

Leaving us with 3,8,12,F1 and change.

Now it comes out we are looking to shop 3 for multiple picks, when we could have had that exact scenario quite easily, with two in lieu of 3, with Rawlings on record stating he rates the 3 very evenly?

Surely it’s clear we rate the top 2 very evenly, not the top 3? If we downgrade pick 3, pick 2 seems to have been the key piece.

What the hell is he expecting for 3? West Coast literally just got 8, 12 and f2 and F3 for 2…

Still, this seems like complete amateur hour.

At the end of downgrading 3, it’s unlikely we are going to be in any better position than we were a week ago, despite dealing 3 very valuable assets that other clubs were desperate for.

This stinks like they are buttering us up for the final act of trading pick 3 for Clark.

Please, someone take the keys to the club away from Rawlings before he consigns us to a decade at the bottom
No, we couldn’t.

So it was essentially -

Out: JHF, Pick 2, *Freo F3 was a freebie (not included)
In: Pick 3, Pick 4, Pick 11 (avg '23), Pick 20 (40 and 40 move in a few and the value of them combined is around 20).

A tad unders. The pick 20 should have been around 15 ideally but oh well. Seems like this draft really evens out after that range away, so there's not much difference between pick 20 and 40.

Pick 3 - Wardlaw
Pick 4 - Tsatas/Sheezel
Pick 37 - Lemmey/Scully/Van Es/Weddle
Pick 40 - Teal/Binns/Schuback/Darcy Jones
Pick 45 - Cooper Harvey

He's the guy that stopped to pick up the giraffe that couldn't finish the 2k time trial?

40 and 43 are worth less than 21, that would be a Rawling-eque trade.

I think Brisbane has too many picks, they currently have 21, 34, 35, 36, 38, 48, 55, 56 in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, how many list vacancies do they have on the primary list? Have they changed the rules limiting picks to vacancies?
No rule change.
But you can get around it if we do the trade draft night. That way our open list spots will be used to activate the picks.

I came here expecting some melts but was still surprised by the membership burning levels, even before the memberships have been out this year. FFS, a lot of simple minds in here. Brady may not be a brain surgeon, but I don’t think he’s making these decisions alone, especially with Clarko and Viney at the club. If it was Clarko recording that interview instead of Rawlings there’d be a lot more calm in here.

Back to the trade itself, Soup has summed it up perfectly. Wardlaw and Sheezel are our targets most likely (and it’s easy to see why) so the trade makes a lot more sense from that perspective. Next year’s first rounder from Port may end up being better than people think - I predict another shit start to the season from them and Kenny to be sacked by mid season.

We didn't kill it in this deal, but really hard to say we got shafted.

If GWS want Cadman then we've effectively got pick 1 (ignoring Ashcroft) anyway, because we now need another midfielder. So that's a wash. And I really struggle to believe that the risk of pick 3 is much greater than pick 2 when we have needs all over the park.

The Port F1 is hard to judge, but something under pick 10 makes the deal look ok.
