I was a massive Cadman fan, possibly the first to get on him as a top pick candidate straight away if you look in the National Draft thread, but the overreaction from the past players and other established/popular north fans on is outrageous.

He is a good key forward prospect, almost a great key forward prospect but I would go as far as saying he would be one of the weaker number 1 picks in recent memory come draft time. Even if you look at pick 2s he’s probably one of the weaker ones out there in terms of how his level of prospect. That is not a massive knock on him, most pick 2s are great prospects but realistically in my, and many other people’s, opinions he’s the 5th (4th in open draft) best prospect.
I have stated before how much I like him and think he can be Curnow-eqsue at his peak and while he’s not my best prospect he’s the one I least wanted to miss out on. however, he isn’t generational, and in no world is he gonna be better than pick 2&3 combined (unless we monumentally f up), and he may not be better than either of them seperately.

I get that we have a need at Key Forward, I’d go as far as saying it’s our biggest long term need, but I’d much rather have 2 players who I rate better than him tbh.

Idk, I feel like I’m much more upset about the return for the best u18 prospect I’ve seen enter the club, than a key forward who I and many think is that 5th best in the draft.

i love kingy but he's massively overreacting because he was all in on cadman

And he hadn't even heard of Cadman until last Friday when Ralphy told him Cadman was a King/McKay clone, then he jumped all in for the weekend.

I could really use a xerri trade theory right about now mate. Change the subject.
Got any for us?

Nup.

I'm just so happy that figjam ^head is gone and we have come out WAY ahead.

Genuinely rapt with outcome. Well played us and I'm a harsh critic.

Clarkson in
A non-Shinboner out
Many quality picks in.

Happy times for me!

Love it.

Now I may be wrong on this, because I usually am, but if we keep 40 and 43, we need GWS to bid on Ashcroft, causing Brisbane to lose a number of their picks to get it done. This should result in 40 and 43 becoming picks in the 30's. If I'm wrong, then please be gentle.

Didn't really know where to post my thoughts and musings on this one but I think here will do.

Firstly, I feel like we should have got more, so I'm disappointed like many of you.

Next thing, I think it's clear we wanted JHF gone ASAP. His attitude has clearly rubbed our playing group the wrong way and many of them wanted nothing to do with him once he requested a trade. I know many of you wanted to keep him an extra year, but good luck juggling a kid with a shitty attitude around players that don't like him and want nothing to do with him. Holding him an extra year and playing hardball sounds great in theory when you remove all human emotion, but in reality it wasn't going to work. Can you imagine the amount of energy it would take to try and galvanize a group that has a bloke who everyone knows doesn't want to be there, and the players don't like anyway? The sulking and lip he gave ON THE FIELD was disgraceful enough, imagine forcing him to come back to a club that he's betrayed and what he'd be like when the cameras aren't on him.

I'm conflicted with the Cadman situation. On one hand, it seems we rate Wardlaw, Sheezel and Tsatas in the same tier, and we're trying to lock in two of them - we don't rate Cadman in the same tier which I totally understand. I can sympathise with those who want to lock in a young key position forward and see this as another missed opportunity to do that. Personally, I think Wardlaw and Sheezel are the two best players in this draft so I'd be going best available with them.

Ultimately, I think we tried our absolute best to get a better deal for JHF but it just didn't happen. We decided that there's no chance we wanted him to hang around and negatively impact on the club and playing group for another year, so we shipped him off for the best we could get.

In 3 years we will have a better idea of who won this trade.

Well said mate

Correct if bidded at one they would end up 35 and 38

Hahaha he did too. Along with everybody else.

He paid homage tonight when Ralph said Curnow and Kingy pulled him up on it with a "you said". And then the Herald Sun reporter Jon Ralph and heard about Cadman for the first time ever in the last 100 hours David King tore us for not getting to draft the McKay/Curnow/King megabeast that no draft expert or recruiter has ever realised was that powerful.

It's not a perfect trade for us but selling one knowing we had two was an inevitable move.

40 will become a late second rounder most likely. 43 early third.
There is more than just Ashcroft eating picks.

Great summary, clearly we'd all have liked more, but certainly can understand the decision to get him out of the club this year, bad attitude out, an extra year into the top end talent we bring in to replace him.

You'd know better than most and if you (and the club) see Wardlaw and Sheezel as worthy of top 2, that's good enough for me. Galvanise a group that wants to and understands the privilege of wearing the royal blue and white!
