I wouldn’t mess with the back 6 unless absolutely necessary, not only do they work well, they’re tight as.

As for Battle being a B-Grader…

Also, he’s taken the fifth most marks in the league this year, beating Cal Wilkie (6th).

In my book, that’s an A-Grader, without necessarily being elite.
Battle is significantly underrated, between the media love that Wilkie gets these days and everything else being credited to Ross Lyon. I like it that way tbh, Ross' structure has masked some of our team and it just lets the guys focus on playing

it’s basically because we want A graders and we want the money in the cap to be available if any want to come.

Curnow is so good at reading the flight of the ball and protecting the space where the ball is going to drop that you would rather your defender have a couple of inches on him.

As for Curnows goals"

1. Battle had his right hand around Curnows waist and he was trying to hold him back, before switching hands and trying to hold him with the left hand.
Soft but there.

2. Wilkie's arm is clearly over the shoulder, close to around the neck.
There every day of the week.

3. The whistle is blown after Curnow takes a mark. Then Battle goes across the mark and puts his hands into Curnows back who was ready to flop for the soft 50.
Curnow milked it to make sure the ump knew about it, but it was there.

If the bar for free kicks were consistently as low as the first and third ones, then Rooey would have kicked 1500 goals.

If King gets them all paid like that, he'll be a chance to win the Coleman from half a season.

They were soft, but by the book they were there. We just had one of those days where they got their soft ones but we didn't get ours.
Don’t know why you’re advocating so hard for this. Anyone could see they were giving him frees not afforded to others

We sooked a lot about Curnows frees on the weekend, but they were there (albeit on the softer side) and it was because Battle didn't have the size needed to nullify Curnows size.
Curnow listed at 192cm, Battle at 193.

Curnow is a freak and not many teams have a 2nd or 3rd KPF with his ability. Not sure Battle deserves B-grade status based on 1 game against probably the most talented forward in the game, especially when this whistle got blown everytime they went near it.

Battle's perfect role for us would be 3rd KPD who can exploit his opponent on offence and even swing forward on occasion - I'd much prefer him to be having that shot on goal in the 3rd than Wilkie.

I'm arguing that Curnows frees were there and two of the three were a result of Curnows size and reach.

Just because Owens and I think Higgins almost had their heads taken off without frees doesn't change that fact.

Curnows were there, ours were missed.

Doesn't help to say well all Curnows goals came from frees so obviously we have him covered.

I follow the sixers in the NBA and have to put up with all the other teams fans calling Embiid a foul merchant and questioning the merit of his output due to his high level of free throws... but the reason why he gets so many free throws is because he is unguardable.

I am a huge fan of Battle. Being a B Grader is far from an insult.

I think he's one of those players that can be a significant part of a premiership teams core. I just don't see him being an All Australian calibre player.

Curnow is a nightmare match up and because of his smaller size needs a mobile tall defender but marks high like a taller player. He's a bit of a Mitch Owens with his small tall game. Battle or Wilkie should be the perfect player for him.

McKay, Tom Hawkins, Daniher types are what we'd be chasing another ultra tall stopper for IMO. A 2 meter tall KPD isn't going to help on Curnow.

Curnow is a unicorn.

You can put a bigger bloke on him and nullify him in the air, but leave you vulnerable once it hits the ground.

Battle performed well, but he couldn't compete with Curnow in the air. It was our team defence that stopped Curnow having a day out. If Ratts was coaching, I reckon Curnow would have kicked 5+ on Battle.

Mitch Cleary and Sam McClure believe we are one of the clubs going hard at De Koning - us, Essendon and Sydney were the 3 they mentioned.
We do need another ruckman, but Carlton would want the world for him trade wise. Would rather spend the $$$ and trade capital on an elite midfielder.

Then look for a cheaper mature aged option ruckman not getting a run somewhere else, plus draft another young ruckman.

Someone like Sam Hayes would cost us nothing and would be a handy backup. Tom Campbell is still playing good footy too.

I also don't think De Koning is the answer, he's not overly good in the ruck and is just living off the hype at the moment.

I think Battle looks shaky as a genuine key defender. The fact we have Wilkie and Howard though means he often plays the 3rd tall role.

I was surprised we chose him to play on Curnow and I wouldn't be doing it again next time we play them.

But he's a very solid 3rd tall defender and got some great traits. Overall the back 6 is looking very solid right now

God only knows why

Unless we can get him very cheap as a Tom Campbell replacement

Blues fans have come to the realisation he will never be a great first ruck and not a great forward
