Yeah, I used to think that. I actually thought we had really good depth at the start of the season. But we don't.

McKenzie or Aliir goes down and we're hard pressed to find an even half-capable replacement. Rioli goes out and we have a serious dirth of decent short forwards to fill in.

We have a list with A+ grade top-end talent in the midfield, who are all young and a bit inconsistent. We have a slightly above average list overall, I'd say now.

Every list has issues. You take a couple of stars out of any list they fall over.

Collingwood with their Ruck early in the year?

We have a good enough list.

Wonder what I'll do with my $600 next year.

What issues? They had Billy Frampton, he averages a pretty high TOG which as I understand it is the only thing about a ruck man's performance that matters.

Literally just heard directly that Ken has 2 more years.
Player driven.

If it’s “player driven” you can put those guys right into the firing line on the list management thread and trade them out, I don’t care who they are.

Adam Kingsley has that “You better not f*** me”, look about him, almost like he’s on a life or death mission. He’s done wonders at the Giants over such a short space of time, which should be rewarded with this seasons Coach of the Year honours.

Meanwhile, down at Alberton, we have a senior coach who looks like a deer in the headlights, whinges about how hard the competition is all the time, & thinks success is tied to how many contract extensions you can swindle out of one club.

That's true to a degree, but it is true that AFL lists have varying degrees of quality depth. Not convinced at all, that our depth is decent.
We have a good enough list.
Good enough to do what? Overcome Hinkley's finals shortcomings and win a flag? Believe it when I see it.

You said we have a "seriously good list". I can't accept that it's any more than "good", at best.

I posted a while back that I expect Hinkley to be given a two year extension because we have made finals but we will bomb out in straight sets.

My belief now is that Hinkley signed a contract extension during the bye and that the club will announce this at the end of the minor round, Monday August 28. The players know that Hinkley's job has been saved so for them it's mission accomplished and the way they have played since the bye reflects this.

Seriously if I was Carr, I wouldn't agree with those terms.

Do we really need/want a handover of the last 11 years?!?!

Personally I'd want a new voice to shake the place up and freshen up the players. Hopefully reinvigorate a few like Ollie and co.

If Josh gets the nod, if anything I want him to demand a fresh set of assistants not a steady as you go approach.

If he's happy to have a transition year I'm not convinced he's the right fit.

Remember we're talking Kenny, not a hand over from Jack Cahill.
A transition plan won't be enough to get me back to Adelaide Oval next year. I want Ken out of our club now - not this time next year.

Seriously what has Hinkley done to deserve one more year under a succession plan ?

The only way the club could justify that is if we win a flag, anything short of that and its totally pointless. Its symbolic of this clubs problems for most of the last decade, they are too weak to tell Hinkley you haven't delivered any success in over a decade so we will be looking elsewhere.
Ken is in a category of his own - name another coach in the history of the game, who has had "success without premierships".

Lance Franklin is widely seen as a success at Sydney despite the Swans not winning any silverware during his time there.
Do you think Ken Hinkley could be seen as a success at Port without any silverware?

We haven’t been relegated in his entire time here!

  • Extend Hinkley too early
  • Fall agonisingly short again (maybe in a GF this time instead of another PF because why not?)
  • Lose Josh Carr
  • Get Grundy, Ratugolea etc. and have “missing piece” memes on social media running rampant.
  • Be flag favourites for 2024
  • Finish 10th
  • Remain stuck with Hinkley
It doesn’t take Nostradamus to predict this but it’s accurate as hell
