If we decide to go tall with 10 and/or 14, this is a name I’d be very happy to pick up at 20, as a quick inside mid option

A bit on the shorter side, but a quality, underrated player IMO

Ppl quickly forget how good McAuliffe is and has been throughout his junior career. Super strong, never dies wondering, in the trenches, goes from the first bounce to the last. He'll likely make a captain one day. He might not look classy or pretty with the way he goes about it but he is a good footballer and has a powerful leg. Makes the ball travel through the air quickly. If not for his injuries he'd be in first round conversations.

Now that player trades are done and the draft order is a little more set, how do Crows fans feel about Eagles F1 for 10,14 and Crows F1? Mixed reactions last time but I think it’s pretty clear we are in for some bottom end of the ladder pain. If anyone thinks that’s hugely unreasonable bear in mind that if 10, 14 and your F1 were offered for pick 1 this year it definitely would not be accepted by the eagles. Feel free to suggest an alternative that works for the Crows, which I presume involves getting Draper before Welsh bid next year.

BTW. Regarding the pick 1 convo on this thread earlier today, if we accept anything less than 2 and 3 for 1 I’m pretty sure Mineral Resources Park will be burnt to the ground.

It’d get mixed reactions from supporters, given some are happy to wait for a midfield-heavy draft next year and others believe we can’t afford to kick the can down the road. I probably sit somewhere in the middle

I do think we’d want a pick this year coming back too, given it sounds like we want to take minimum two picks to this draft. What are your later picks?

That’s what I thought. Not much high end SA talent this year (not that it means you shouldn’t select interstate players) but geez Draper looks good for next year. That we’d offer to send back? 37 and 58 (we wouldn’t include 23). Goad and Moir seem likely to be available with 37, any interest there? Delean will be off the board.

I think you mean Zane Zakostelsky, top chance to draft a key defender.

West Lakes right next door to "La Grange"

Love their Darcy Wilson/Harry DeMattia picks for #10 and #14 though if we're taking a ruck as early as #20 might as well go for the local lad Taylor Goad.
I really love Demattia I would have him at 10 if Osullivan is not there by some miracle. Maybe Tholstrup at 14 and Goad or moir at 20. A lot of people say this is a shallow draft, I see a lot of potential running into the late 30s of all shapes and sizes. George Stevens looks like a ready to go midfield bull for someone

Would Melbourne do 10&20 for 5? Drop 5 spots and gain another late first rounder essentially for nothing!

I honestly think West Coast would be stupid to take that deal. Way too much volatility.

If you finish last and have pick 1, and we win a final, you'd be giving up pick 1 for picks 10 and 14 (in a weak draft) and (approximately) 15-ish next year. That's a scenario that genuinely could happen even if it's more worst case.

I certainly would not want to trade pick 1 for a pile of picks that doesn't include any single digit picks

So in that sense as a Crows supporter I would definitely take the trade but for West Coast surely it's a firm no

different order to what I had read previously. Watson to Horks, Sanders to Bullies. Again mentions the top 8-10 which we just miss out on. Perhaps GWS or Cats picks are what we are after to get Curtin or O’Sullivan but hard not to think we have to give up 10 and 14 (with something probably coming back) to move up a few spots.

AFL Draft 2023: The potential pick 1 deal and how it would affect the top 10

Recruiters are convinced there are some absolute gems at the top of this year’s draft class. So for those clubs with the early picks, who are they eyeing off?

West Coast won’t be tempted by multiple selections in the teens from North Melbourne in any swap for the Eagles’ prized pick one.
North Melbourne and Melbourne remain engaged in talks with the Eagles in a bid to secure pick one and the access to star underage prospect Harley Reid.

North Melbourne is keen to take Harley Reid with the first selection in next month’s national draft, adding the powerful goal kicker to a talented midfield mix.

But West Coast has made clear it would only be tempted by multiple single-figure selections, rather than choices late in the first round.

This masthead revealed West Coast would consider a swap for North’s picks two and three for pick one.

There is also the option of involving Melbourne, which has picks six and 11.

But North will have to use 15, 17 and 18 to package together and jump up the order, or include its future first-round pick to have a chance of tempting West Coast into giving up pick one.

West Coast has minimal interest in picks in the teens unless they accompany multiple single-figure picks to boost the club’s rebuild.

Recruiters are convinced there are 8-10 excellent prospects in this year’s draft, but the talent drops off in the double-digit range.

West Coast is very happy to take Tongala goal kicker Reid at pick one, leaving speedy playmaker Colby McKercher and outside midfielder Zane Duursma for North.

Hawthorn likes small forward Nick Watson and Western Bulldogs are eyeing gun midfielder Ryley Sanders, leaving star goal kicker Nate Caddy for Melbourne.

Highly-touted Western Australian key defender Daniel Curtin could slide to GWS Giants, although the Giants are well-stocked for key defenders, prompting clubs to eye a potential pick swap with GWS.

Geelong also likes 193cm Caddy, who can play forward and through the midfield, although he would have to slide to their chance after the Giants.

But generally clubs are not keen to slide back in the draft order as the bulk of the top talent is inside 10.

We’d have to have a crack at Curtin if he slid

Genuine gun

The class and decision making , overhead marking , mobility and size of him and Dawson would be mouth watering

I agree, but if I come in hot on an opposition board generally it is met with instant resistance so here’s the kicker:

WCE OUT: 37,58,F1
ADEL OUT: 10,14,20,F1.

Would you still do the deal? I acknowledge need high end talent but we also need a lot of youth. If Crows are happy with this deal I would do it. There’s definitely two camps on our board, one that is a hard no on trading F1 and one that is keen to trade into this draft and sliding next year.

Fu¢k no.

The alternative is to wait until the end of next year, and we use the 2024 picks and 2025 F1 to put us in the best position to take Welsh and have a pick before him for a mid.

You guys might be 14th, we might be 10th. Hell, you might be better than us. That's a crazy trade to make.
