Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

been away for few days. Have Tin Rattlers and Vic media stopped believing they can coerce us into thinking that pick 2 is more important than pick 1?

What 2024 ladder position do people see where it ticks over being worth thinking about trading it into this year's draft?

(Where the other club(s) involved in a trade are mentally expecting us to be bottom 3)

I’ve got a Garmin headset mount on my bike. I’ve never been able to wear a watch (or jewellery) so it’s only phone fitness app that tracks my walking. That’s ok, because I’m not trying to set any records or anything, and have two standard circuits that are 10km+ each, so monitoring the distance isn’t a problem either.

Fair enough.

I just take the straps off the watch and tuck it under the fold of my sock when I'm playing, with it connecting to a Scosche HRM that goes on the inside of the forearm near the elbow and tape over that so it doesn't fall foul of the umpires.

Sorry. But thats a North supporters mindset.

And the club may already have a trade target next year and would split or lose the pick anyway.

We dont know what the clubs strategy is this draft or targets for the next.

No its not a North supporters mindset, we were the worst team this year and have made no major improvements its purely logical that we'll finish near the bottom ,most likely dead last
The club may have plans for 2030, who knows.
The most likely outcome is we finish last, get the No1 pick and go from there, trading it out right now would be sheer stupidity

How do you rate the HRM versus Garmin watch ability to achieve the same in scenarios you can actually wear it (ie not footy)?

I managed to connect my Garmin watch to my Garmin bike computer so I could witness my own BPM torture first hand while riding. That was a good time, but the Garmin I had was pretty old and unreliable. Upgraded to a new model a Summer or two ago and it's much better.

Cool, so kitchentalk has devolved into Garmin talk

12 days to go

There's always piggy backing another clubs draft threads because list build strategy is only interesting when you're an utter abomination. Thats probably not so appealing when we are the utter abomination but I think we've covered all angles of the draft, so hey, fvxk it, let's learn about fitness devices!

Its sheer stupidity to have a closed mind to consider options.

And you just seem more interested in looking forward to a future low draft pick than being proactive now and improving the squad now. That IS a very North way of thinking.

Turning our F1st plus say 37 into Curtin, Wilson plus a 2024 1st to trade for Busslinger is stupid?

Compared to who? We are getting our pick 1 generational talent this draft.

We add at live picks 1. Reid, 7. Curtin, 14. Wilson/ Windsor, 29. Wil Dawson or ZZ and 52. Cooper Simpson.

And have the F1st to either use or trade for a Busslinger.

Can always use future picks to trade in or upgrade picks and I dont see the top 5 as a must next year.

That's no true. I do distance running and do a swim each week to build my aerobic fitness while giving my legs a rest. My mates that do triathlon only do 1 or 2 runs a week because they need 2 cycles and a swim as well. Doesn't mean they can't tear it up on the track.

If you only swam or cycled you'd struggle to run as your legs don't have the conditioning.

When it comes to our injury prone players, I wouldn't be surprised if they were doing a mix of low impact cardio to get everything out of their legs before retirement.
Both of these statements are half true.

Cycling is a great way to add base fitness if you’re not running

just get a chest strap tbh

It all depends how high our recruiters rate Curtin. If we would’ve picked him with 3 if we got 2&3, then it offsets the risk a little bit.
Think it would still need a swap of 1sts. With whoever would offer it out of melb, GWS, Cats if he lasts that far.

We’d get more for it next year probably but I wouldn't hate it. I often complain that we’re a bit conservative. It would definitely be an aggressive move and would add extra emphasis on wins. Rather than death riding your own team. Was weird this season with the Harley Reid cup.

That’s not the sharpest comparison, it’s not like North are stockpiling future firsts, quite the opposite and definitely looking for some quicker wins

We can still use our current F1 for that next draft to pick up a gun at 1,2,3 or split and use to trade for Buss. The latter option with the additional benefit of seeing him go around another year before making that call, at no loss.

Not seeing the top 5 next year as a must is an oversight imo. I think what we pick up there in a mid heavy crop might be a better option than going for Curtin now. The decision to split / trade for Buss next year with the added knowledge of the next draft crop prior also won’t hurt

I find the optical HRM in the newer watches to be pretty reliable now, it seems like many of the issues had when they first came in have been overcome.

Only times I ever have drop-outs now are if I'm cold and still warming up, or doing resistance work that requires gripping or pulling etc (which makes sense as the blood vessels the optical sensor is trying to detect will be constricted in those circumstances).

I can't really fault the Scosche optical HRM strap, in my experience it's been super-reliable, quicker to hone in than optic sensors in watches and still works much the same whether if it's worn on forearm, bicep, calf or quad. It's only downside is the battery gets drained pretty quick compared to the watches now, so you need to stay on top of that.

Obviously a chest strap will be more accurate, but they slip, can take ages to sync if you haven't used them in a while, and start to smell pretty nasty after just a few uses.

It's probably been years since I last used a chest strap now as I'm more than happy with the level of accuracy and ease of use presented by the newer generation of options.

Finally got around to listening to this

Interview would have been better without his manager pumping up Curtin’s tyres every 30 seconds. That and Gossage isn’t a good interviewer usually

Curtin was fine

Will be really interesting to see where he lands in the draft

If he gets through to the GWS pick I wouldn’t be upset if we traded our F1 to get him - our F1 and 23 for 7 and 16 might work for GWS

Gives us Reid, Curtin, 16,37 and 58 to get the rebuild uo and running
Why would you do that if you were the kid's manager? The less pressure on him in his first few years the better no matter where he goes. If anything most 17 year old's who get drafted probably have too much confidence from being a big fish in a small pond playing against other kids and could do without more false confidence about how hard it will be to make it being pumped into them. It is the parent's job to be the cheer leader. It is the managers job to be the realist and be preparing for them how much hard work is ahead of them.

The auction is coming up and the managers client isn't getting the exposure the manager wants.

Firstly the refererence was to North supporters attitudes not North the clubs. Lets not become North supporters focusing on low draft picks in 12 months time and that late November is when our season peaks.

Can alsways bring picks forward next year. Bulldogs this year didnt start with pick 5.

The mid heavy crop is deap.

If we rate Curtin high enough for top 5 we get our 2024 top 5 player 12 months early. Plus extras.

It all depends on how the club rates him versus the top 3 picks next year. And only the club knows that.

We get our rock star #1 in Harley this draft.

It's not about looking forward to the pick next year. It's the fact trading into the current draft you almost always pay a premium. So making a trend of this (ie. next year we can just trade back in) will ultimately lead us to missing out on top end talent despite in all likelihood being near the bottom of the ladder. To extract best value we should be patient.
