The Daicos boys are very good players, so it really riles me up when the umps keep giving them soft free kicks (like FFS they don’t need any extra help!) … and Nick especially has to stop looking for frees, that one where he was on the ground in Q3 and he deliberately threw his head to our defender’s arm to make out he was hit high was sickening, the ump who gave that free should be given a spell!

Here’s that incident… I’m wrapped that he’s been called out in the media for it!! Like I said, he’s too good a player to do this sh1t!!

Disregarding the context in his trading rowbottom argument is bad faith.

Ceaser rated him highly and thought he was being wasted as a defensive mid, and because of this said Sydney may as well trade him while he was young.
Hows Rowbottom going as a defensive mid now?
So, if the reasons you describe are true (which I totally disagree with - but am not allowed to talk about for fear of retribution in this fantastic, democratic, public discussion ?!), C88s arguments are still poor.

Our game is built to work on the G.
After watching a good chunk of the first 2 rounds our play is the best I've seen, but it feels like we've still got a lot of improvement left.
Our ability to arrest and reverse opposition momentum is streets ahead of last year.

We play our best footy on the G. We have for a few years now to be honest.

How good is it that some of our better players are going to miss out because of our depth. Great problem to have.
For mine;
Parker comes in and plays forward
Mills comes in and plays half back
Adams comes in the middle

Errol permanent wing
Braeden dropped
Lloyd dropped
Jordon dropped

2022 - Mills was AA in his only season as a full time mid. Mills comes into the midfield and plays mid/half back as opposed to Heeney/Warner/Parker/Gulden and even JMac playing Mid/half forward
I cant see a place for Adams once Mills is back..
Im struggling to understand how we can drop Lloyd and/or Campbell

I used to think the Swans liked the wider grounds - MCG, SCG etc as it was good for our spread and we could open up the corridor more easily.. but we're the only team to beat the Cats at their toothpick ground.
I now think think our system just works well no matter which ground.. but yep, as a kicking team, the bigger the better

You can't see how Lloyd is dropped when the last 2 games he's been moved to the wing/half forward because Matt Roberts has owned the HB position? McInerney and Gulden, Jordon, are all better wingers then Lloyd, so thats how Lloyd misses out.

So who are you dropping for Parker and Adams? Then assuming you're dropping Adams for Mills (which I just can't see happening as second half the season, finals experience and all)

Freo and GWS have equally, if not better records down there then us. And Freo's ground is very similar the G. So i think the ground comparison is a little flawed.

Parker in for Fox to rotate between forward and mids with Hayward being the more defensive one again
Adams in for Roberts, who pushes pushes Heeney to the wing more and Lloyd goes back to defense
Mills when he comes back will be in for Campbell or Jordon, whoever is performing the worst

Fox to be the versatile sub

If we're gonna play Parker forward I'd just drop Hayward. IMO Fox has to stay in. He's currently the best pressure player in the forward line.

Unpopular opinion but if everyone keeps their form, Parker doesnt fit, other than taking the sub role

Maybe Roberts gets dropped for Lloyd to move back to half back.. finals experience and all.. If Roberyts can keep Lloyd out of half back, then he's doing bloody well. Could happen, at the least its an interesting watch.
Im not sold on Jordon. If Mills was back this week, I reckon he'd replace Jordon
Parker..?? I dont know who misses out, but pretty confidant that Parker plays. Maybe at this stage its Jordon?
Adams..? Im not sure he gets a game. If we dominate contested possession and clearances the next two games (until Adams is ready) then I cant see us dropping anyone.

Campbell had a slow start to the season, but hes shaping up to be a long term gun

Its a loooong season, so everyone will likely get a good crack

I think he'd offer more than Hayward. He's as good a mark, a better kick and tougher. He's just slow so can't offer much pressure-wise. Balance him out with Fox and/or Wicks and he'd be an asset IMO.

Its interesting, Parker is certainly a great mark for his size, I think Hayward is a pretty good contested grab, I will probably check the stats and he never takes one now 😂.

End of the day a loss or two, drop of form, injury and Parker is back. I just think Horse has used his as the number 1 mid to a fault at times

I'm happy to kick the can further down the road with regards to who makes way for Mills. In all likelihood, the decision will be much easier with injuries or loss of form.

Parker will come back in but I honestly can't say who I'd drop for him. Lloyd has been floated but his work on the wing is solid. Cunningham and Fox are superb role players. Jordan, Campbell, Amartey and Melican have all shown good signs. Roberts has made a very good start to his career as a defender. The rest of the team are locks at this stage.

Then there's Adams. If the team is still humming along when he comes back, he should return via the VFL. Unlike Parker (and Mills), he does not have the runs on the board for us. I'm sure no guarantees were given when we signed him and I like the idea that he earns his spot.

To double down on your unpopular opinion....
Wicks has been awesome as the sub the first two games

I like what Wicks brings

I hope we can stay in this magic time where we are trying to fit 28-30 guys into the team, rather than find 6-7 to make a competitive team

Hayward covers the ground much better, is a better jump and offers more as a target coming out of defence. Parker is too slow and not athletic enough to be a true half forward.

Re Rowbottom's role, I'm actually not sure what it is as both games have been very different so far, I just know it's not the defensive mid role he's had the last two seasons.

Against Melbourne he seemed to be playing as a pure ball-winner at the ruckman's feet. Against Collingwood he seemed to be playing as a half forward. I'm watching the replay right now and he's playing mostly off the half forward line. He pushes up to stoppages but even then it's mostly on the outside. Dale Thomas at the start of the match said he's running with De Goey but other than a few contests, it's mostly been a combination of Heeney & Jordon on De Goey.

I said earlier I wonder if Rowbottom's being managed for something, because it's by far the least inside he's been in a game in at least a few seasons, a curious move considering the outs we have.

Either way I like it so much better than what he was doing the last few seasons. Even at half forward he's got the freedom to run around being a mad cat and isn't preoccupied just sticking to one bloke all game.
