Let's just hope this year's trade period is better than last year's.

Oh and how about this for a bad take on things, from last year's trading thread. Mostyn doing Mostyn things.

With every young player we have, you think the list is going to be worse?

Silvers on Triple M still mentioned about trading picks for established players.
I don't know how I feel about this, I reckon we still need to hit the draft.
Sid Draper or the like this year for a start.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place now. With Dawson in particular but also Ranks, do we wait until a draftee is developed by which time these guys are past their prime, or do we try and get mature talent.

Thing is, draper might be ready to go round 1 next year and he will make us better. Smillie as well if we were in a position to take him.

It did my head in that we thought that we were in the place to sell our picks last year as our club was in the spot to make a decent shot at finals, but after the first three months, if we can't see we are two drafts at the least away...I just don't know what to say.,

Move Tex and a few others on, we aren't getting them a flag. I have much more respect sucking for the next 2-3 years and getting a midfield to complement a few we have drafted before we trade our picks

He said on 5AA their plan is to top up with established players again.

Melbourne, you're gonna have a chance to absolutely ream us when we go for Petty again!

Take a good look at what we could get out of North Melb. There's plenty of talent at North

Brisbane's pick is up for grabs. GCS may be as well.
We currently have picks 8, 11 as well as Norths ends of first rounder.

Lombard is looking a likely top 5 pick so I would think we would be open to offers, any thoughts on what would gain our interest?

Is Ned Moyle a free agent somehow? Gold Coasts website says he is.
That'd be a win - trading ROB for a second rounder then getting Moyle using ROBs salary.
We picked him up in the mid season rookie draft a few years back, he extend until the end of 24 so is uncontracted. Club is keen to keep him and he loves it up here. He can see Witts career is on the wane but a guaranteed first 22 position and some serious $$ would have to be very tempting.

The list management team are living in an alternate universe. They would be thinking we will turn it around in the back half of the year and our first round pick will be in the early teens, not in the 3-5 range which is much more likely.

We are very desperate. Our management signalled that to the league saying we are chasing other teams players so big paydays and draft capital thats desperately needed for high end mids instead will get thrown out for anyone that bites.

Our first next year and second round pick this year (tied to Melbourne) for pick 8?

Do you have academy players next year as well coming up?

Lol, I don't think the idea "a very young list that's getting another year's development and improvement shouldn't go backwards" is very controversial.

We had a mediocre preseason and some players - like Pedlar - have really wasted a year.

The coaching team is middling too - losing one of the best coaching talents and barely replacing them is an issue.

I don't think the list is as bad as it looks now, or as good as people were saying at times last year.

We had two off seasons where we got the best traded players in the market. Then we had a nothing off season - other than Curtin trade - and that's cost us for depth.

I think we all probably knew we were taking a step back when age caught up with Tex. He was performing way better than I think anyone expected.

We don't have a list like Collingwoods who have the cattle to be able to cover a few injuries. We don't even have a list deep enough to push the dead wood out.

People yell about dropping senior players, playing more kids. Well that is basically what we were forced to do against Richmond and look at how that went. Perhaps the leadership of players like Tex, Crouch, milera, rob etc is underestimated and there is more to it than just what their stats say.

Put Milera, Tex, Thilthorpe, Worrall, Crouch, rankine in the side and we probably win.

It's the continued playing of Jones, McHenry, Berry, Murphy that annoys me most. They have had so much time to start stepping up and haven't. And players like dowling, nank and worrall had to play 2s for so long and never got a chance. Especially when a first gamer is forced to be played and outperforms them all.

I put most the blame on the recruiting team who wasted first and second round picks on Mcasey, wigg, galluci, mchenry, Jones, Lever, O'Conner. I'd only call Michaelanney, Worrall, and Soligo draft Pick successes in the last 10 years, 1st and 2nd round only. Some the jury is still out however.

We have a couple of kids dominating as under agers eligible for the draft next year but the AFL changes to the rules and out likely ladder position means we will only be able to match on one of them

Likely wouldn’t use the Melbourne linked pick so unlikely

Like it did with Dawson?

We're not trading our first.

Mature players will be with later picks for added depth, which we clearly don't have at the moment.

The future first might be on the table, though? I still think we'll make a play for Luko, for better or worse. I think Perry isn't happening and his management knows it.

lol and the losses before our injuries?

As for the young players responsible for the loss? Which ones? We’ve been calling for Dowling who played well out of position. Nank played very well, Borlase well, which kids you lumping this loss on?

The losses before our injuries were not against Richmond... They were against a gold coast side still unbeaten at home. Against a Geelong side who were in the makings of a 7 game winning streak. The crows were in a winning position in most of the early losses, some could have gone either way with a poor umpire decision or bad missed shot on goal.

I also didnt blame the kids. I specifically mentioned that dowling in his first game outperformed Jones, mchenry, Murphy, Berry types. And said the continued selection of those types is what annoys me most. That, and the dreadful track record of drafting from 2014 to 2020.
