Marshall is one of the best in the league at his position and in St Kilda top three players.

Petty is neither of those.

They have nothing in common, and it would be tough to find a less relevant comparison.
But for Melbourne, with their lack of forwards and given they would have been expecting to be in the premiership window, he’s extremely valuable. So they would never let him go with years on his contract at the late stage where they couldn’t replace him without a massive offer from us.

Is it confirmed Bailey Smith wouldn't come to the crows?

According to the Saints reddit page, he's 3 x 1st round picks. So I guess that settles it.

"On form he's probably in the top 2-3 rucks in the league. Absolute MINIMUM given that and his contract status would be two top 10 picks, and personally I wouldn't even give it a second thought unless there were three first round picks on the table".

But absurdist humor aside, he's one of the better rucks at actually being a footballer. That's when ruck isn't the least important position on the field (beyond hit outs). It's when you have a ruck with the skills of an 8 year old and can only tap the ball randomly towards the ground that it becomes pointless. In the real world he's a late 1st rounder. When he's contracted for another 3 years and half the comp needs a good ruck, Saints can ask for whatever they want. More than likely he's got a case of the Gresham's and doesn't want to be at a shit club playing largely meaningless games in front of paltry crowds - angling for a move to a big Melbourne club.

The Saints think he's worth multiple first rounders because their list is trash, so compared to the rest of their spuds he must actually be worth a lot

Very similar to Crows fans thinking Brad Crouch was worth a first round compensation pick

Happily a first rounder. Form is temporary. Class is permanent.
Lifestyle issues may not be temporary though. Wouldn't be the first time a great player has fallen off a cliff. If Melbourne are happy to let a player of his ability go, would be very, very wary.

FFS Marshall is gettable because saints are prepared to move his contract on.

Just like we’re prepared to listen to offers for Laird if anyone is stupid enough to want that contract

Contract exceeds production, so it is a liability

Any doofus who thinks we are getting multiple firsts for laird, can apply the same logic to any over paid getting old player in the league - including Rowan freaking Marshall

Exactly.

It's almost as if there's a recent example of an even better ruckman leaving his team for far less trade capital, in Brodie Grundy.

Must have misplaced the Playstation memory card containing that info.

Not enough Cotton Ons in SA to have his rig in posters on only to complain that he hates the attention.

That being said would have him at the Crows in a heartbeat.

What an absolutely idiotic lack of a point.

Was Brodie Grundy one of the top 3 players at his club when he was traded?

Grundy had been going backwards for the previous three years - is that true of Marshall?

Grundy had lost all trade value and was playing in the reserves. Is that true of Marshall?

Would Brandan Parfitt be worth a look if the price was cheap enough. Seems to have stagnated badly at Geelong for whatever reason. Change of scenery and more of a chance to have a run in the midfield might help him get back to the promise he showed early on???

tone it down, this heel turn is getting OTT

Going into bat for someone so mid as Rowan freaking Marshall is just freaking batshit

Clearly not watching much football nowadays Colonel.

You can keep saying he’s top three until the cows come home, but there’s nothing realistic about that overestimation

Whiffs of fantasy stat influence

He turns 29 in November

Maybe they’d get a single pick in the low 20’s

You are so so so wrong on this one.

Fantasy stat influence you say ? Perhaps an educated view formed by watching every single game he has played for the last 5 years in it’s entirety not just the ones against the Crows

Tom Morris as usual on the Mark IMG_1837.jpeg

Grundy wasn’t playing reserves because of form, he was there because Melbourne couldn’t make 2 rucks work, Grundy couldn’t play forward and Gawn is one of the best ever. He left Collingwood because of a salary cap squeeze and they thought Cameron was good enough for half the price. Sydney got him for draft pick minimum chips because of his contract.

An elite ruckman who was the victim of circumstance. His game against us showed what influence a genuine star ruckman can have.

You seem upset. I (genuinely) hope you're okay.

Apologies if missed this being posted, Tex contract talks on hold to end of season according to Glenn McFarlane, Jay Clark and Ralphy. Interesting finish to the article. Why would him struggling with injury next year only matter if he'd moved clubs? Surely it would matter to us too.

That's the right move by the club.

We have to see him play well in a block of games to finish the season. You can't have a key forward than can only play half the games.

There is probably a discussion on how many pre seasons you nurse someone through when you are not contending.

He would have to be willing to ply SANFL. I actually think Tex would be okay with that.

If and it's unlikely Nicks goes then Tex is certainty to not be around. A new coach will want a fresh start.

if the second half of this season unfolds as expected, theres no chance nicks is senior coach in 2025. short term pain for long term gain, hope we get belted the next 9 games so the campaigner can receive his marching orders.

Showdown wins/losses count for alot in this town. Unless we win a heap of other games I think that could decide his fate.

And yet we sit bottom 4.
I want to vomit.
LOL - talk about a comprehension failure. It says "Round 15 2024" - i.e. the week we had the bye!

We had the youngest team in the competition in R14, by a large margin.

For the record, Adelaide had the following players under 22 in R14:
  • Borlase (21 yr 11 mth)
  • Cook (21 yr 11 mth)
  • Rachele (21 yr 2 mth)
  • Dowling (19 yr 11 mth)
  • Michelanney (20 yr 4 mth)
  • Nankervis (21 yr 1 mth)
  • Soligo (21 yr 5 mth)
Plus the following, who just missed the cut-off:
  • Berry (22 yr 4 mth)
