I'll be more ropeable than any of you about Curtin not getting a full game if Oscar Ryan doesn't at least get a quarter before the seasons out. Our best performed in SANFL of the first years IMO. Very consistent. Plays in a role where you don't need a big body so that shouldnt be holding him out.
Shouldve been playing half the season

Good to see Curtin named but I won't be happy about it until I see someone else subbed off besides him.

I don't mind Dowling getting a rest. He's already done enough to show he has a future at AFL level, and looked out of sorts last week.

Happy to see the club persist with Bond despite him not being at his best last week. We need his kind of player do let's give him every opportunity.

Welcome back Rankine :heartpulse:

How much is "way more"?
Rankine attends 40% of centre bounces when he is playing. And he and Keays are both playing high enough to be 2nd and 3rd in inside 50s. Unless they are kicking to themselves.

And why hasn't Murphy kicked more goals than Keays if thats the case? 29 goals plus 15 assists, compared to 7 & 10

Even bigger discrepancy for Rachele. Who also has 22 tackles inside 50, compared to 19 for Murphy who spends "way more" time up there.
Murphy leads the team in Tackles inside 50 per game.

And last time I checked goals weren't a defensive stat.

He leads Keays by 0.3 despite playing forward “way more”

I'd be getting him to do a preseason in back pocket next year.
There's a spot there for him if Max moves to half back higher up the ground.

Bond and Hamill the other contenders but Jones does have a bigger body and could be useful.

Has the worst footy brain though - just see ball get ball. Regularly goes to hard at the ball or player and overruns it
Hopefully he gets back to some decent form on a wing - I don’t think he is a long term answer down back

Barely leads the team

And so he should if that is his role in the team.

He's equal 26th in the league for I50 tackles per game

Murph will be a 250 gamer for us. We probably should just accept it and save ourselves the weekly angst

Should but won't. I plan to melt every Thursday

But the silly thing with it all, is he hasn’t been dropped at all for the last 4 seasons - 2021 - 2024. Not once for his mediocre level of output. So thought I’d do a bit of investigating.

In 2021, he got injured in the Showdown in R8 then when he came back he had 2 games in the SANFL before being promoted into the Seniors
In 2022, he played one game in the SANFL when the AFC had the bye.
In 2023, he played every game after Round 1
To this year, he played the first 3 games then got injured and came back thru the SANFL before being promoted and stayed ever since

He is the human equivalent of a cockroach.

D Mac survived multiple coach sackings

The new guy always fell head over heels immediately

In fact I expect it's Question 1 at all our coach interviews
Like DMac, Murphy has a good Footy brain

DMac currently a development coach at Hawthorn.

Murphy's role for Nicks is as on field coach. That is the non statistical role.

Two issues with this.
Says a lot about about our Leadership battalion that Murphy is one of the most vocal in instructions out there. Watch him at games. Tex another one.

Also after 5 years Nicks still needs this crutch of an on field coach.

DMac was a far better player than Murphy.

As a player Murphy offers nothing at AFL level.
DMac was serviceable, and none of those coaches needed him for his coaching. He was there as a player.

Murphy is like a bl00dy cockroach

I dont understand it. Crouch got tossed after a 42 possession game. He also got sacked for half a season despite being a contested ball winner. Murphy on his best days gets 16 disposals. His job is to be a connector between the wing and our forward line. The dude doesnt even rank in the top half of our club for inside 50s. So Nicks had all these standards for one type of player but Murphy who surely cant even be achieving the minimum is given a golden ticket. Nicks is out of his ****ing mind.

We dont go through Murphy because he is too small. So unless he breaks free and is all by himself he is useless. He also is painfully useless at the contest. Imagine having the choice between a 197cm solidly built tall running player that could add instant problems in that position for the defence and a 174cm small player who is unable to impact a contest.

If you didnt say the names and asked any non supporter in the league and gave the stats about Murphy then added the alternative in Curtin with his bio, hands down 100% of everyone including AFL coaches would say Curtin all day every day. Why? because its a waste having a player who cant impact a contest, has minimal inside 50s in his role and therefor offers little in the way of helping the side score. A player like Curtin offers an incredible amount of flexibility through our transition of the ball.

He is contracted and it isn't worth paying him out is the first reason.

Paying out players with multiple years left on a contract is as I know of it un heard of.

So it makes absolutely no sense to do it. He is okay as depth, just because he isn't living up to where he was picked doesn't mean you thow the baby out with the bath water. Ideally he is pushed out of the team and is a fringe player.

He was top 10 in our bnf last year so not as bad as some make out

He has been terrible this year. Really done nothing when he has the ball but frustrating to watch without it. He can't defend so his opponents just run off him.

I used to think he could play a back pocket role but not anymore.
We are stuck with him now for a couple of years.

Good to see Curtin named but I won't be happy about it until I see someone else subbed off besides him.

Personally think if he's playing well and Nicks decides it's 'sub him off time', the crowd will turn on him quickly. In fact it's the sort of moment that could end his career at the club this year (Nicks).

Burns was extremely quick to announce that Curtin would play this week to Rowey today, it's clear they have heard the feedback and have become a little paranoid.
