The coaching group lack imagination & don't have strategic smarts... yet Nicks was extended 2 years... so that is on the decision makers of the club who also need to go.

The best change imo is to move Nicks to Kelly's role, sack Kelly, Burns & Godden.
Hombsch is pretty good. Given the lack of personnel this year plus changes from week to week, he has done well to keep the backline organised.

He seems to be pretty creative, and a good teacher.

Our backline is one of the better ones.

The other coaches are "paint by numbers".

I'm still sticking with Butters to leave. Maybe Port do get a pick ahead of us and get Draper. That gives them three SA mids to set them up for the next 8 years.

Hopefully means we get Lalor.

The minute guys like Butters and Houston leave is the minute Port start having to work towards a rebuild. I think they will be going all out next year to see if they can win the premiership.

Our backline performed better this year.
Our forward line performed worse this year.
Burns moved from backline to forward line this year.

I think he was our best performing assistant coach

There weee so many games were our midfield got smashed and as a result we conceded so many inside 50s but our young backline stood up…. He was always amending the structure due to Muz, Worrell and Butts missing games

Maxy, Bond, Borlase and Keane all improved, and Muz and Worrell just need football

He’s earned his coaching contract for 2025

if they lose butters and houston they will bottom out

So, let me get this straight, we have a flailing coach who has been here for 5 years that they rushed to lock in early this season and now they decide he can't coach properly and needs someone to help him BUT, they can't find anyone that wants to help..you could not make this stuff up.

THEN..we are told no changes to the assistants either as they are all contracted for next year.. SO what I make from all this is for the love of god, do NOT TRADE OUR F1 for anything as it could be pick 2 or 3 next year as I am not sure about others, but I struggle to feel optimistic about 'organic growth' in our coaching department...F*** me drunk
Perhaps they can’t find anyone they can ride shotgun over and aren’t prepare to fall into AFC thinking

All three line coaches remaining is a massive fail. Kelly remaining is even worse.

It's unbelievable. I would of thought you should have at least one coach come out of contract each year even for flexibility.

Montgomery seemed a realistic chance.

I bet we are rushing to sign Godden, Baulderstone and Matty Wright up again. We will probably appoint one of them to Director of Coaching.

I get a Senior Assitant/mentor for a Rookie Coach but not someone going into their 6th year.
An admission of failure I would have thought. Better than look for a director of coaching, sack Nicks and get Bartel in..save all the hassle and get a guy that seems to know footy inside out, champion player himself and comes from a very successful footy program

Tim Silvers philosophy is all about stability

When he was at Hawthorn during the Clarko rebuild and dynasty era there was a lot of stability in the key club roles and coaching group.

But this only works if you have the right people in the right roles.

The club is always saying “we are always looking to get better”

But how can you do this when your structure is so fixed, it actually prevents any change, or a new voice, or new ideas.

There is also an August deadline of informing assistant coaches that they are not required for 2025, it seems our assistants are safe.

Anyone coming in must be new roles, and a shuffling of the deck chairs

Look, I like to beat up on the club as much as anyone else, but do we really believe this.

It feels like every year there’s some hand wringing that happens in the lead up to trade week that doesn’t come to fruition.
I'm not saying it's done, that's why I dared them to do it haha

+ we have form for it.
