So if Saints plan on using picks 3, 18, 19 in draft whilst upgrading TC then we'll have delist someone by tomorrow's deadline...#whowillitbe

How many players actually ever go back to SA from Victoria? Not many at all.

i tried telling a pies supporter this, who claimed pies were a better fit for aish and that he wouldnt go home if he joined the pies

theres no evidence to suggest south australians are a flight risk at a melbourne club, theres even less evidence to suggest the pies are better at keeping them

generations of aish are embedded in sa folklore he is an extreme case. imo one that will eventually find his way home.
This. No-one's suggesting Aish is a flight risk just because he's from SA, it's because there has been so much talk that he himself doesn't want to leave SA. You don't hear anyone saying they don't want Scharenberg because he's from SA, or that they don't want Acres because he's from WA (probably even more of a statistical risk than SA, historically), it's about the individual case of Aish.

He hasn't been given a ban yet though.. Wouldn't surprise me if we delist someone else like Beau Maister who's contract expires next year and if Saad does get the ban (Think he will) re-list Maister. Either in PSD/or the next delisted free agency (Starts November 22).

Good point. Or we delist someone like Maister and pickup Weller when/if Saad in banned.

saad. can we pay out the contract?

We have no grounds to delist him though at moment. We can't just delist someone cos they might get suspension. It's why was crazy to sign Jones so late in piece. Should hve waited.

what if saad agrees to delist himself, can we pay him out? would that coin get in before the ban?

I still wonder if Billings is the right pick for us, He is a fantastic player with an x factor that i think is seducing some people but i don't see how he meets our team need. I believe we need a midfielder "General" someone who will command our mids in the coming years i see Kelly and Aish as being able to do this but not jack.
(I wouldn't be upset if we do pick him though especially if he does turn out like Stevie J)
Of those 3, I would have thought Billings was actually the one with the most potential to eventually be considered a "midfield general", as he looks like being the one most likely to be suited to playing in the guts, being so good one-on-one/ in contested situations, at ground level and reading the ball off hands and is considered the tougher/harder one of the 3 and the one most likely to build a good size body. Hence some likening him to Luke Hodge, who has a lot of the same attributes and is as good an example of a "general" as you're likely to find in footy.

Kelly and Aish on the other hand are both pretty skinny to very skinny and look best suited to playing outside (especially Kelly) at AFL level and I doubt you'd find too many "midfield generals" who are skinny and play mostly outside. Some have likened Aish to Cotchin though, so would have a decent chance of it.

As someone else said, we would also be a good chance of getting someone that fits that description at 18/19, where at least a couple of the likes of Crouch, Dunstan, Dumont and Cripps look like being available.

Then of course we already have Armo and Seb Ross and I reckon Nathan Wright could easily fit that bill in a few years, given he looks at least 186cm to me (from seeing him up very close), is strong and aggressive and loves the tough stuff. Then of course there's Brodie Murdoch. If he makes the transition into the midfield he could be appointed "General" very quickly!

As for whether Billings would "fit a need", even if the unlikely event occurred and he wasn't able to play midfield (which I think is super-unlikely, given his attributes and the fact he's already played very good footy there), with Milne and probably Saad gone, TDL not looking up to it, Milera being iffy and Schneider coming to the end, I would have thought someone who is as good around the goals as Billings would actually very much fit a need for us, going forward, especially as he's a bit shorter than the likes of Siposs and Murdoch, who might make our forward line a bit top heavy when combined with Lee, Longer, White, etc.

The fact he looks likely to be able to play midfield and also across HB if necessary is just a huge bonus. As I've said before, there are apparently plenty of clubs who simply consider him to be a "mid", so if they're not worried about his ability to play midfield, when they would have seen plenty of him play and then heard plenty more from those who have coached him on top of that, I'm not too sure why you're so worried about it.

I probably have my rose tinted glasses on, but I can see Newnes becoming that midfield general. He already shows leadership on the ground, and he'll be spending more and more time in the midfield as he develops.

He might be another that plays mostly outside though, as he hasn't really showed much of an ability to find his own footy. I like the prospects of Newnes and Webster on the wings though (and I also think we could get one of Taylor and Hartung at 18/19 and they also look ideally suited there), so that is another reason I'd prefer to get Billings than Kelly or Aish, as I think Billings could probably play wing in his sleep as well, but also looks like he'll be able to play in the guts, could easily play across HB and could of course potentially be a dominant force up forward.

I have a lot of faith in Trout and co. though, so I'll look forward to watching whoever they go with.

Forgive my possible ignorance, but what in the holy hell would we want with Cutler - who is either a tall flanker or undersized KPD by the looks of it - or Apeness - a slow ruckman cum forward?

Where did LTE say we would want them? he suggested they would be around at our picks.
I'm not having a go at him, I'm just wondering their relevance to discussions where the Saints are concerned?
