It's draft range mate, it would be awkward to put 10-17, 20-40 or something like that.
True true. I'm just grumpy today. My apologies LTE.

Not you Stanley. Never you.

Knightmare's take on Salem:
#9 Melbourne (Via GWS Activated Compensation) - Christian Salem (VIC - Mid)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 15/07/1995
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style: Luke Hodge
Player comparison: Taylor Hunt (with better footskills)
Range: 5-15
Profile: Midfielder with a real physical presence and physical style of playing. I also really enjoy Salem’s tackling game, he just hunts the man and you can see he really enjoys it, and he does big damage every time he lays a tackle and it’s a real feature of his game. When it’s his turn to go he goes, whether it be a marking contest where he knows he will get crushed or going for the hard ball he will put his head over it and just go for it. He also does some really impressive work at times with some good blocking or bumps on or off the footy where required and just has that hard edge you love to see. He plays a good two way game running both ways and also stopping his direct opponent or playing a shutdown role as required. His footskills are above average and he hits his targets and can at times do damage, particularly when within range from goal. Also has ok but only above average pace, but regardless of this will run and carry the footy and cover ground with ball in hand when the opportunity is there. He’s more outside than inside at this stage and the next step will be to develop that inside game. I’d class Salem as a guy who screams “component of a winning team” without projecting as a particularly elite individual talent. I also have some questions about how much development is left with Salem an early bloomer having been roughly the same height and size for a few years now.
Not good enough for #3 for mine, but too good for #18/19

Josh Kelly, Jack Billings, James Aish, Kade Kolodjashnij, Matthew Scharenberg and Christian Salem are just a handful of names that are likely to be considered by St Kilda ahead of November 21.

Say what?

Not surprised. Brian told us a few weeks ago that we were busting our balls to get another pick around the 9-11 range so that we could get Salem (if still available).

I'm really liking Salem at the moment. Not at pick 3 but I would have him around the Pies first pick. He looks to me to be a very solid and safe pick. A bit of Daniel Rich about him. Not as powerful kick but nonetheless deadly.

Interesting to note that Knightmare has us taking Billings, Dumont and Dunstan now... Would be fairly pleased with that result...

As would I, one mid with leadership traits and other high intangibles in Dunstan, one player who is just a terrific footballer in Dumont and another player with elite kicking and outstanding potential in Billings. I rate all three of those players higher or equal to our draft pick numbers so I'd be thrilled.

For the uninitiated; or like me, just plain sad and obsessed, that's a:
#3 (Billings) - 183cm, 78kg Victorian mid/fwd with elite kicking skills and amazing marking skills.
#18 (Dumont) - 185cm, 83kg dual-focus SA mid - and the object of Rahul's disturbing affection. SANFL premiership player 2013.
#19 (Dunstan) - 185cm, 83kg dominant but slower inside SA mid and SA captain.

Wouldn't mind those 3, especially Billings (in case anyone hasn't noticed!), but not much pace between the 3 of them. Think we'd probably pick Hartung with one of 18 or 19 if the draft panned out the way Knightmare has it going.
Geelong has proved that pace can be overrated; and for now there's a fair bit of pace in Joey, Curren, Webster, Saunders, Wright and even Newnes. And as (someone, I can't remember who) said, Hartung: 'little bloke, big attitude'. No thanks.

Leave the pace for the Rookie Draft and next year, and just pick the best (midfield) footballers IMO.

Quick enough to get mentioned twice? :p

On your last comment in regards to footballers, that's why we should grab Dumont.

Yes... That quick...

Now you're on the 'Stanley List'....

I think it's time to do a power rankings - Our own personal rating of the top 20. Not what we believe will be the draft order (boring), or needs basis for clubs but our own personal ratings. I'll go:

5. McDonald
6. Lennon
7. Aish
8. Sheed

10. Kolodjashnij
11. Acres
12. Bontempelli

I'd be happy with that but i'd be happier with
Billings
Taylor
Dumont

One in and one out mid and a super classy mid/fwd. I know Taylor is bloody small but i'd love to see Steven and Taylor running around Etihad together. He may slide to us at 18. Dumont is just a really nice player who I think we will be very happy with in years to come.
Don't forget we will have a minimum of 2 top 20 picks next year too guys.

freeman runs like jack. getting 2 first rouders next year will be hard to get considering melb and gws will be bottom 2. we could finish anywhere between 10-16 with all of our experienced players on the park and the inevitable improvement of our future stars.
