Sewell bit better than Jones but I see where everyone is coming from. Think we would be stupid to get rid of Armitage, even stupider to replace him with kids without an experienced player coming in.
What would you consider Dylan Shiel, who will be in his 5th season at an AFL club by next year and has about as strong a body as Armo and could very easily be better next year than Dave will be?

Even at just 21yo, Shiel averaged more disposals, tackles, inside 50's, goal assists, effective disposals, averaged less clangers by a fair bit and spent an average 7% more time on the ground than Armo did each week this year! So you could argue that Shiel is already better than Dave and that by next year the gap could widen and he could be spending even more time on the ground than Armo each week, which is also important.

Having Armo, Shiel, Dunstan, Ross (and possibly Billings and Murdoch, down the track) in the same midfield would IMO be too much of the same thing.

Getting Shiel automatically means Armo is tradeable. Like for Like in that bullocking mid role, however Shiel obviously should have the highest ceiling and has a far more damaging boot on him (anyone else forget the 3-4 supergoals he nailed against us in the NAB cup?). Would happily use Armo to grab a pick in the top 20.

I tend to agree. If we do get Shiel then Armo probably gets traded. What that deal is I don't know.

Maybe he goes to GWS as part of the deal for Shiel?

1 and Armo for Shiel, 4 and 15 or something?

If we got pick 2 do we go for Brayshaw or McCartin?
Yes.

Alternatively, put it on the table and see what sort of offers we can shake loose. We may be able to get in the potential Dangerfield/Beams action or may be able to get ourselves a couple of lower picks, to maybe get ourselves a "sliding tall" (eg. Durdin, Lever, Goddard) around pick 8 and then another pick in the teens for a DeGoey/Weller/Pickett type.

I personally wouldn't want to trade Armitage for a two pick upgrade and early second rounder to get McCartin when players like Lever, Durdin and Wright will be around pick 4.

Can always aim for a key forward next year.

I would be looking at 4, 56 & Armo for 2, 23 & 40.

I guess it would all come down to how we rate those that are likely to be available at pick 23 and how we rate a McCartin compared to a Wright/Lever/Durdin.

That is risky (unless we get one from GWS) because next year looks to be a draft dominated by "mids".

Next year definitely a midfield dominated draft. Midfield types including Keays, Mills, Dunkley, Parish, Mathieson, Tucker, O'Kearney etc.

Ryan Burton looks a very good KPF prospect IMO but got injured horribly about a month ago and will miss 12 months. Joshua Schache looks good. There's another who I haven't seen much of, forgot his name... Weideman?

Shiel, McCartin and Weller this year. A priority pick to get Parish and Mathieson next year. Fill any holes via trades and FA then collect flags.

I'm not asking for too much am I?:p

I really want Sydney to win today.

Tom Mitchell is named as an emergency for them, and we all know what happens to premiership emergencies.

he reiterated yesterday that he was happy to stay

If we did get Shiel in an exchange for pick 1, might we then try to trade Armo to Melbourne in some sort of package for say pick 3, due to the fact Shiel and Armo are pretty similar, as are Ross and Dunstan (maybe even Murdoch)? Not sure we'd want all 4 of them in the same midfield.

Is your new avatar a nod of respect to my mate Sir Skid? I like it :)

IF we were to be interested in Shiel, we wouldn't be sending any players their way.

We will get a player and their first pick or no deal. If we can then turn Armo into Melbournes pick 3 then I'd pull the trigger.
This is why I was so desperate for us to get pick one, a nothing win at the end of the year could stuff our next premiership tilt.

BTW, there's also a chance of pick one for pick two and three if Shiel goes to Melbourne...tasty!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but what you are saying is along the lines of:

Shiel & Frost for 2 & 3 (GWS may throw in their end of first round compo)
Then 1 for 2 & 3 (we may throw in our 2nd rounder)

That would be nice but personally I would prefer to get amognst the Shiel action.
