Curtly Hampton strong again as he looms as a midfield powerhouse for the Crows
IT is still early March but the Crows appear to have uncovered a gamebreaking midfielder who could prove a difference-maker this season.
Former Giant Curtly Hampton, who did not play an AFL game in his first season at Adelaide last year because of injury, starred for the second consecutive week for the Crows and looms as a surprise Round 1 starter.
After catching the eye against Richmond last week, Hampton produced another strong performance against Geelong at Richmond Oval on Sunday, winning 17 disposals in the midfield and holding his own in a head-to-head battle with star Cats captain Joel Selwood.
“For Curly it was another opportunity to play another game in the midfield,’’ Adelaide coach Don Pyke said.
“He has probably seen himself as a midfielder but he’s played primarily back as an AFL footballer so he’s two games in as a midfielder and there’s some positive signs. “We are happy with how he is progressing and he’s going to get better from here.’’

I would consider it. Less money, less years, much better ruck ;)

He looked very good last week for the Hawks
Vickery has been the more effective player most years they have been in the league together (last year being the notable exception)

JJ's trajectory is good, but our forward line in general was good last year

Vickery's trajectory looks bad, but Richmond's forward line in 2016 not the best place to be

JJ has played less football
Vickery is younger

JJ is a better 'spearhead' as he is a very effective one on one contested mark and efficient goalscorer

Vickery is a better ruckman and pack mark

Vickery is on a better contract and Hawks gave up nothing (other than cap space) to get him

Can see an argument in favour of either player depending on the team's needs

Lol - this thread has jumped the shark.

There is no argument to be put that anyone would ever choose Vickery over JJ.

Except Sanders, but Sanders is to JJ what NTRabbit is to Mrouch.

You can choose the guy who's kicked 40+ three years running (with a best of 60 or so), or you can have the guy whose best was 36 goals back in 2011 ...

Gee, I'm stumped ... to be honest with you.

I completely disagree. Vickery is very average who has never played 3 good games in a row. Tigers had no ruckman and got one from the Swans. Jj is much better and i wouldnt trade him for Vickery ever.

Well sure, if you don't understand the criteria or football in general I can imagine how it might be confusing

I mean let's not forget JJ finished what, 14th or something in the B&F (or was it lower) on a per game basis. I mean that sort of performance from a 62 goal season is pretty special

The complaints about Matt Crouch are valid, no matter how much people want to stick their heads in the sand and declare him elite.

I look forward to the day you do have a good complaint.

*Edit: That came off a bit troll like, i did mean a good complaint that makes me think.

I wouldn't care if Jenkins was a non-entity at the ruck contests if he gave us something at ground level and around the ground when he's in there but he gives absolute donuts

Where we fall down in big games it's because we break down at HFF

JJ's inability to provide a contest provide a target is a big part of that

No one is saying he doesn't haven't strings to his bow, just that he has far too few of them

Ha, I'm afraid that you have no understanding of football if you are expecting JJ to be a pack mark. He is not that type of player. He is an agile big man who needs to be matched up by a key defender. Put a small on him and he'll outmakr them. Put a big on him and he'll put run them.

That doesn't even make sense

And like I said to the other bloke if JJ was do unstoppable how come he gets stopped so often? Like in big games and in 2 out of 3 regular games

How come the coaches rate him so poorly

Oh yeah, goals. Must be easy forming opinions just from the Sunday mail box score,

You could try watching games.

I just read your sig. is that a disclaimer for anyone responding to your posts?

And another shirk

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, JJ must be blushing
I'm just used to these tit for tats with you Sanders. I promise I won't reply to your next post, so please go ahead and have the final word. We all know you are so flawed that you cannot resist but have the final say...

The floor is yours...

I'm sure we all learnt something from this most persuasive of arguments

Usually trolls are less obvious though
