GrommoT - I'm not sure you should link to Alan's private Facebook page. He's not a public figure???

Also, if the mods don't think I should quote what he posted on the AFC pages, I'll delete those posts.

SEN did a season preview of Adelaide this morning. Garry Lyon had Adelaide finishing 5th, Tim Watson had them 4th and Sam McClure 3rd.
Pretty happy at the moment with 3rd-5th for this season

Can't see us higher unless a few players jump up a level

Atkins , Cameron, Milera, Hampton, B Crouch are probably the keys for us along with McGovern becoming an elite forward in terms of improvement

Unfort we say it every year but prob 2018-19 is our strike zone for flag contention but would take alot to go right even then

I reckon Gov is going to have a massive year. Looks like he'll be pushed into the midfield more too if the preseason is anything to go by. Exciting.

Would be a good kick out target when spends some time on a wing.

Agree with this. I remember Sicily's marking at Hawthorn's kick-ins carving us up last year. I reckon Gov could play a similar role now with a better endurance base, he'll be able to get around the ground easier. Still should be mainly based in the forward line though, that's where his best work is done.

KB on SEN says that Tex has a dud ankle, the club decided not to have surgery on it in the offseason and now he has to play with it all year, he says he has been sent a photo of how much it blows up after each game.

They are going to get Rucci on the phone to find out the story.

So if Tex is out for the first game (hope not, he is very important to us) ... hopefully Dear gets his chance to show his talent on the big stage.

How would the match-ups go against GWS without Tex? Dear to play FF and occupy Davis? Anyone?

I'd be tenpted to go smaller and move McGovern to CHF.

I'm not sure Dear comes in, we already run a tall forward line, I think Tex gets replaced with Menzel. We still have Jenkins, McGovern & Lynch as the three tall forwards, we just switch to running an extra small rather than an extra tall.

Not sure Dear has shown enough to get a spot, probably Menzel although he hasnt set the world on fire he does have a hell of a lot of AFL experience compared to Dear.

If that is happening it probably takes half a day to go down, I had that once, everytime I ran my ankle would swell, just a heap of cartledge floating around in there had it removed and all was good, although recckon Tex probably has more than that, as it took two weeks and all was fixed

It would swell after training aswell if its doing that , cant see them making a call not to fix it pre season

Am I wrong in thinking McGovern is almost an upgrade on Tex at CHF. At keast not losing too much.

I feel our fowrad line is a bit top heavy with Jenkins, Tex, McGovern and Lynch. Hence I have wanted McGovern to become a big bodied mid

McGovern is more mobile than Tex, a better contested mark and when he played the modern CHF role without Tex he excelled.

If Tex is injured his mobility is further impaired a his kicking suffers. We saw that just before he went off.

Of course Tex is the better option if he is fit. But he has struggled for a while now.

I hope if Tex is struggling they make the right call.

Not sure how Rooch would know anything.

Yes you are wrong, Gov has a long way to go to compete with Tex, imagine taking the best defender every week, he might find he becomes even more inconsistent with the added pressure of having to stand say an Alex Rance or Easton Wood

How do we know that he will be inconsistent if we never try him against them, though?

Just a question, Marty - when do you personally believe Gov will truly hit his straps? IMO, this could be his year

I mean in the context of an unfit Tex vs McGovern.

But I do also genuinely think our best 22 forward line is a bit top heavy with Shooter and Tex wanting to play the same role.

Agree he could but he did show a lot of incosistency last year and took the fourth if not fifth defender, big ask to make him the focalpoint, I would say he consolidates his position gets consistency and next year can go to the next Level, this year is about staying consistent and I bet thats what Pyke wants out of him, not load him up with a KPF position and their main defender, Lynch is more capable of holding that role than Gov if Tex doesnt play
