Wow so pretty much the sort of trade I was throwing up yesterday.

9, 19, 30, 49

into

14, 17, 30, 31

So give up 5 spots for 2 spots 2nd pick and 18 spots 4th pick.

In terms of points Sydney gave us 2792 points to our 2704. So we come out on top there.

That's not too bad, but it I'm pretty concerned that we aren't getting that early draft elite talent in that our list desperately craves.

Ultimately we've gone from Pick 9, 49, 67, 85 in the draft, to pick 14, 17, 30, 31. That's a pretty good return. We just now need to nail this season otherwise we're stuffed.
is it still good when you add 2017 1st to it?

Interesting comments, both from Davies and the comments section.

I found it interesting that he said that "history would suggest that (our new kids will) be in our top 20". Where exactly do we think our list is at at the moment? Or do we think that the draft is that strong?

Aguis: Chris, your trade period has been small but is it also prestigious?
CD: a lot of people consider me small and prestigious

Dawes? Seriously??

Dawes is a spud, but name a better available KPF who can also go into the ruck. Desperate times.

Unless we can get in the ear of the currently uncontracted Rhys Stanley about coming back to SA, and try to grab him in the PSD? Might be difficult with our exploding celery cap though.

There actually are other players on other lists not getting a go that do actually have something to offer. I know it sounds craaaaazy.
Something to offer still? He literally got traded today for a pity pick in the 90s because for some bizarre reason he was contracted for 2017 and couldn't be delisted.

Geelong clearly looking to strengthen their 3rds.

Maybe our lists just suck

"The original plan was to move players"

To convince myself that we had made the right decisions over Trade Week I went through the last eight or so National Drafts and isolated picks 14,17,30,31.
I wish I hadn't. There are also more spuds among them than there are in Pauline Hanson's fish n' chip shop.

If that's a hint that we'll be going for instant gratification players only. ....

sigh

Awwww c'mon. Chris Davies only just said "historically" all 4 picks we have will be best 20 players. Surely somebody in such a high profile position at an elite level sporting organisation couldn't be so wrong now, or so trained in spin.

That wouldn't be cool.

Look at the history of pick 9.

For context, look at the history of number 1 picks.

It's all futile.

My summary is we gave up next year's first round pick to upgrade 67 and 49 to 30 and 31.

Gotta be the most uninspiring way to use top 10 pick of all time. Perhaps other than when we called out Andrew Moore's name.
If we finish in the 8 then the trade is fine.
