We have been lucky that most of our first 1-5 since 2000 have been excellent except for the Clarke brothers so our perception is a bit skewed, I am sure LOLmond and Melbourne supporters have differing views. That is the argument go to the draft for one jet who gets injured (Pick 1-5) JOM V Rooey or spread the risk and hope that through it you get one jet and GOF.

Trading Armitage would be insanity, he should be our next captain.

Even though he had an injury ruined preseason, he was a large factor in a lot of our wins this season. Just looking at his stats is a mistake, he sets the tone for our high pressure gameplan.

It's a very different path to what the Dogs have gone down, who mostly just got their players through the draft. I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it, everyone we have brought in has been at a very good price and have all been best 22 except for Freeman, who may also come good. The best thing about it is that we are keeping our first round picks.

Libba, Hunter, etc as distinct from us getting nadda.

Not bemoaning this and your point is valid, however it just adds to your depth and saves your earlier draft picks for better players, more early picks more chance of getting a jet.

You seriously think Longer would have retained his spot? There are only so many 8 possession, 0 marks per game any team can tolerate. Furthermore, his defensive pressure is absolutely rubbish. Zero interest in chasing whatsoever. It is probably mostly fitness related, but does he strike you as a guy with the kind of worth ethic to other come his current lack of athleticism?

Reality is he has not shown the necessary drive to overcome his shortcomings as a player to date. He has a very limited skill set. Can't mark, not a goalkicker, can't find the ball. Best case scenario is he becomes the 'Mumford' style clone some on here think he will be. Only problem with that is, you need to be an exceptionally hard worker to play that style of footy. Get to a lot of contests, apply a lot of pressure, second efforts etc.

How could Billy possibly give anybody the confidence he is going to put the work in to become this type of player?

The cold hard reality is Billy was probably shopped around this trade period, there is too much smoke around this one. He has received very little love and now he is a "required player". Nobody wants to cough up because he is just not that good.

If Mumford is Billy's ceiling then that's awesome. Mumford is arguably the Giants most important player, in a team full of first round picks it was his injury that took them out last year and Tom Boyd's work to negate him in the prelim went a long way to getting them in the Grand Final.

As I said, there is not wrong or right way of doing it, I was just pointing it out. Very happy with the way we've gone about building our list.
