They're a definite finals side and a sneaky top 4 chance with a chunk of luck IMO.

I have zero doubt they'll sneak a flag sooner rather than later.

I hope they do.

Gives hope that small Victorian clubs can still compete in the AFL if they are well run, from the top down (although Peter Gordon seems like a bit of a ****, the Dogs are doing extremely well off-field and credit must go to the man).

If that's right, and not Josh Kelly I can give you one solid reason why it might be legit...

Scotch College Class of 2013: Jack Billings, Jack Sinclair... Jake Kelly.

We've recruited White/Rice, Gresham/O'Kearney, Goddard/McCartin/Lonie, and Billings/Sinclair; I think they've drafted mates too often now for it to be coincidental and NOT a specific puzzle piece of the overall plan.

Maybe the idea is they're more likely to gel together as a team?

Son of Craig. Former Adelaide rookie; 189cm 88kg.

Good honest, disciplined 3rd tall defender. Nicknamed 'the Raging Bull'; allegedly had to be told to tone it down at training!

Athletic without being particularly quick, and a good intercept mark, but kicking can be a little iffy (although it's vastly improved).

Incidentally, Craig is a former 8 year teammate of Richo... ;)

I was speaking to Brandon white and he said he was close mates with Bailey Rice too. I was laughing saying how we seemed to be picking mates after doing the same mental list you did. Last year Sinclair said he and Billings had been playing junior sports since they were under 10 and his VFL year was the first time they hadn't been together. Seems to be a plan to keep the list together.

looked it up. jon pierek

Just goes to show how many bloody footy journos there are....all those we mentioned previously, not even including Caro, Emma Quayle etc are at one newspaper!

Lachie Whitfield, Dion Prestia, Peter Wright, Rory Lobb, Paul Ahern, Trent McKenzie, Brandon Matera. They're on my want list from GWS and Gold Coast. No way those 2 teams can play all their talent, some are going to want out.

I'd be happy to trade; one of Longer or Hickey, confident both will become very, very good rucks. Tom Lee will want a trade most likely. Jarryn Geary to a young team who might see his leadership and defensive pressure as outweighing his disposal... Tim Membrey could be an option for trade with our current forwards all doing well (Bruce, Roo, Paddy, Billings, Lonie, Sinclair and Minchi all good for goals).

If we could walk away from the trade period with 2 of the guys listed above I would be stoked.

Longer and a late pick (early 4th round) to Richmond for pick 13. Pick 13 and Geary/Lee to Gold Coast for Peter Wright and McKenzie/Matera.

We could look at trading our first pick (4-8ish) for one of Whitfield or Prestia.

OUT: Longer, Geary/Lee, pick 4-8
IN: Peter Wright, Trent McKenzie/Brandon Matera, Whitfield/Prestia.

That finishes the rebuild pretty much.

Agreed and nobody would want any of Lee, Geary or Membrey.
Membrey is not even 22, and has only played 13 games at AFL level.

Do you reckon we can wait a minute or two before we declare him trade bait and/or worthless?!

I'm not saying he's worthless, maybe Joffa was getting at that, but at the end of the day if it meant getting in one of those guys I would do it. You gotta give something to get something.

I wasn't suggesting you were saying he was worthless... You put him up as trade bait, which I think is at best premature, and at worst ridiculous.

Otherwise Joff is right; Geary and Lee aren't going to get those players across the line and Longer is not on the table.

Joff is the one suggesting he's worthless, which IMO is just as ridiculous.

Yes!!

I think Membrey is part of our core group who will be very loyal to our club!

Putting words in my mouth. Why don't you try and understand the situation before criticising opinions. Nobody said he was worthless. He has been at two clubs so far and has not shown much to suggest anyone would be banging down the door to recruit him. He may turn into a very good small forward, but at the moment as potential trade bait he would be worth a late second rounder at the very best.

That is why he is not worth trading, BUT worth persisting with by the Saints.

I don't bag players by calling them worthless. I have almost given up on Geary but that is after 8 seasons.

At this point just about anyone is trade bait for the right deal IMO, we're getting to the pointy end of the rebuild. We need to polish off the list. We need to strike a balance between being mercenaries and giving blokes a chance. Very hard to do, but if the right deal presents itself eg. McEvoy trade then I think we've got to do it.

Thinking we will have a 1st round pick around pick 6 this year and no 2nd round pick. Would love two 1st round picks this year, who are we willing to give up for another 1st round

He's not putting words in your mouth. He can't. Your foot is taking up too much room.

I cannot think of anyone on the list that would be worth a first round pick that I'd be willing to give up.

The guys I think other sides would be willing to give up a first round pick for would be Billings, Bruce, McCartin, Goddard, Steven, Armitage and Carlisle.

No way would I give any of them up. Possibly one of our ruckmen would get us a late first rounder, but for that I think we are better off having two good ruckmen until someone will offer us something silly for one of them at least.
