GOLD Coast midfielder Jaeger O'Meara has been dealt another setback and will not make his comeback from knee surgery for another six weeks.

O'Meara ruptured his patella tendon last April and was set for a round one return at NEAFL level, but a recent arthroscope on the knee has cost him more time.

Suns coach Rodney Eade told AFL.com.au's First Bounce program that the former NAB Rising Star winner would now be likely to play at the lower level in "round four or five".

"He had a bit of a scan of the tendon, and it's pristine and has good strength, but he had a flap on his patella and he had an arthroscope to trim that and it put him back a couple of weeks," Eade said.

"He'll be back running next week.

"We'd like to think he could start playing some football, obviously the NEAFL first up, probably round four or five."

Eade said despite the setback, O'Meara was in a "good headspace".

The 23-year-old has not played a senior match since round 23, 2014 but recently told AFL.com.au he was in no rush to return and just wanted to come back bigger and better than ever.

O'Meara's news comes in the same week fellow midfielder David Swallow was ruled out until midway through the season following an arthroscope on his injured left knee.

Pretty poor list of FA, apart from the older players that won't leave and steel and rich: the one I'd be interested in is David Myers. I know his had his injuries but a year off might freshen up the body. A tall midfielder with a long kick is what we need. Will only be 27 next year

I like Chris Mayne from that list, we should go for him.

Thought I'd put on a bit of the Freo-Adelaide game from the weekend out of boredom and within minutes Lachie kicked a silky goal from 50 out. His re-signing still stings a bit!
Ross just signed on for five more years, plenty of time for him to work his charms. Lachie will be begging to join us by the end of 2018.

Hey fellas! I work with Peter Wrights old man and he's out of contract at the end of the year and is keen to come home. And according to his dad you guys have been in talks with his manager already, which he's rapt about because his old mans a big saints fan! Would love him at the dogs but I'm not sure we have the money in the salary cap, especially if he has a breakout year

Signed for another year this week

It's not an either/or situation. The club is clearly chasing opportunities outside of quality mids.
For sure they will be trying to land a mid or two but if the opportunity presents for another talented KPP no doubt they will jump at it.
Retirements, injury and a likelihood some will not cut the mustard means there will be room for types other than mids.

Troll confirmed

If Trent McKenzie can play like tonight every single week, i wouldn't mind him down back or on the wing for us!

A little off topic but did anyone watch AFL First Bounce this afternoon? Apparently they were having a segment/talk about the saints on there
