Disagree on just about every word of this post.

So which word/s do you agree with?
Sorry....just extremely bored :D

( Btw, I agree with your sentiment)

I'd do that and run like a bandit.

Win-win I'd think. GC get a professional whose experienced and can help their depleted midfield. While we have great foot soldiers already but the more top end guns we get, the better.

I reckon we are aiming for finals next year so trading Armo one of our best 4 mids still is crazy talk. He's spent much more time playing forward this year to allow us to play Dunstan and Ross in more minutes as mids. 8 Might get a good kid but so might 10. There is not enough of a trade up to guarantee a better or even different player will be there. We basically swap Steele for Armo in that one which seems not to be as smart as swapping Longer for Steele.

Agree on Longer. So big and strong but can't even present let alone catch.
I think Mumford might be the diff between WB and GWS. He will look to smash them. Makes it so much easier for the GWS midfield.
Bit like Keating did for the Lions. I remember Matthews saying that when he saw Keating smashing into Fraser, he knew they would win.

We've been killed in clearances regularly but you'd like to trade out our best clearance player? Just don't get it.

Same here. It does my had in this "trade Armo" stuff that pops up pretty regularly here. It would be the most pointless trade you could think of. The bloke is no world-beater but he leads us in an area we are very weak in and isn't young any more meaning he is pretty much more value to us than any team in the competition. Why would we trade him out in our situation? It's just a strange suggestion.

Mate I believe with the natural progression of Dunstan, Ross, Acres, Gresh, Weller, Newnes along with adding Steele into that midfield Armo is expendable

Armo averaged 9.7 contested possies per game so that means we need to find a mature big bodied midfielder who betters that average straight away to be of benefit. Rather keep Armo thanks .

Why do points get used to value a trade. They are only important for Academy and F&S.

Have no bearing on trades at all
That isnt really true.
The points system was devised by going over all of the historic data from all of the drafts and looking at the chance of each draft pick becoming a certain quality player. It isnt perfect of course but it has SOME bearing.

We'd be going backwards if our young mids couldn't step up, add Steele and you wouldn't even notice Armo being gone

Don't think they will drop that far to be honest. They will rebuild like Geelong and Sydney.

I'm not sure about that they are doing a lot of high risk trades like Dayle Garlett, Jonno O'Rourke and JOM. If they don't come off they will hit a critical point where they won't be as attractive as they fall away and so don't attract the guns and their drafting is pretty awful. They will lose Mitchell, Lewis, Burgoyne, Gibson and Hodge pretty soon and they are still their elite players. Add roughy potentially not returning and it could be a swift drop away.

Why do they have to better is straight away?
What if they bettered it for 8 straight years from 2018 to 2025? Would you say "no thanks. Uselesss hack of no benefit!" I am pretty sure Armo himself didnt average that number in his first few years. The issue is Armo has probably already peaked.

We'd be bullish for sure about making the finals next year but realistically with the harder draw we're going to get plus blooding new players I wouldn't be surprised if we stagnate and then kick off really in 2018. So while I love Armo as much as he next bloke I reckon we take the punt and go for Toronto (or whoever we like, I haven't been paying attention this year).

8 does seem a bit low, I'd try to get 6 (and give them steak knives if they want) if Richmond gives that up.

Essentially this could be potentially be the last year we have a highish draft pick for a while naturally, would want us to try to maximise that rather than go conservative and get 2 decent kids.

A Tale of Two Mids in the Under 18 SANFL Grand Final on the weekend (by Matt Balmer)

#8 Jonty ScharenbergWas judged the best player on the ground, finishing the game with 34 disposals, 12 tackles and five clearances. His ability to get his arms free and handball the ball off to a teammate is outstanding. His kicking at times was rushed (55% kicking efficiency) but overall was a significant reason in the contested situations that Glenelg won. Likely sits as a second rounder at this stage.

#48 Brandan Parfitt– Was consistent right throughout the day with 27 disposals, eight tackles and six clearances. His last quarter was very good and I think he is going to provide some good value in the mid to late section of the draft. Was willing to take the ball forward and look for Hayward inside 50.
