I'm not sure about that they are doing a lot of high risk trades like Dayle Garlett, Jonno O'Rourke and JOM. If they don't come off they will hit a critical point where they won't be as attractive as they fall away and so don't attract the guns and their drafting is pretty awful. They will lose Mitchell, Lewis, Burgoyne, Gibson and Hodge pretty soon and they are still their elite players. Add roughy potentially not returning and it could be a swift drop away.

We can only hope. Even better if their drop down the ladder coincides with their move to Dingley. Right now their fans are accepting the move away from Hawks heartland because they have three shiny new cups in the cupboard. Add some wooden spoons and they might not be so cordial. Can only be good for us if a weakened Hawthorn try and move onto our territory rather than a powerful Hawthorn.

We'd be going backwards if our young mids couldn't step up, add Steele and you wouldn't even notice Armo being gone

If you expect Steele to come in and be better than Armo you might be disappointed. He's a project player still.

That isnt really true.
The points system was devised by going over all of the historic data from all of the drafts and looking at the chance of each draft pick becoming a certain quality player. It isnt perfect of course but it has SOME bearing.
You give the AFL way too much credit. It's true that the points was devised using historical data but that was in the NFL. The AFL just pinched the idea (and points value) from the NFL as is the case for just about every idea they've had in the past 20 years.

I think Armo is one of those heart and soul players you don't just trade for the sake of it anyway. Pretty sure he has a Saints themed kitchen, and he's always quick to extend his contract as well. Then on top of that he's probably our best contested ball winner, which is an area of concern at this point in time. So if we do trade him, I'm not sure it'll be for just any pick.
On a positive note, if we trade him to Sydney, Essendope or the filth, it won't be too difficult for him to upgrade his kitchen. Or even the dogs for that matter.

Darcy Gardiner is goneski.
That would be a nice get

2013

3 Billings
10 Freeman
18 Dunstan
19 Acres
22 Gardiner

2014

1 McCartin
21 Goddard
22 McKenzie
24 Steele
41 Lonie

Nice additions & a lovely core going forward of 10 high quality young blokes from 2 consecutive drafts

Why do they have to better is straight away?
What if they bettered it for 8 straight years from 2018 to 2025? Would you say "no thanks. Uselesss hack of no benefit!" I am pretty sure Armo himself didnt average that number in his first few years. The issue is Armo has probably already peaked.

I would love to add Steele to our existing group , i cant see him averaging enough contested footy to cover the loss of Armo to improve on 9th spot next season . If your talking about a player / players for 2018- 2025 , we still have 7 more drafts . Lets talk next season .

The fact that the academy kids who are potentially top 3 draft picks can be graded as worth a handful of later picks says that it really only benefits their new franchise clubs and Sydney how ever they came up with it. If it's of any benefit we should bundle up all our duds and later picks and swap them for Bontempelli.

What have points got to do with anything except F&S and academy picks?

Cannot be used to value trade pick worth. It is a false premis
How many times does this need to be repeated before people get it through their thick skulls..

Our pick 10 for picks 34/35/46 is the exact same value under the points system, would you people do that trade? No you wouldn't, so stop using the points system as a guide for trades because it doesn't work.
