I am still extremely skeptical about this but would like to just sdd something.
Hawthorn does not necessarily have to finish higher than Freo for Fyfe to be FA.
If say they finish 2nd last and Freo say 12th.
They want pick 2. Do we say no and use pick 2 in the draft ( assuming Brisbane cant match the nominated money and also use the no.1 pick on him).

This has the effect of Freo losing a player and a 2nd top ten pick (compo after their first) and we are no worse off.
Doubt Feo would do that. Their supporters would go spare.

Adelaide like every other club have more than 22 players on the list. And believe me as good as their list is they also have gop's and others not so gop's.
Alot of players on lists dont even play 1 game.

So if it was Jack Steven leaving us as a FA you'd be happy with letting him walk for one top 10 pick when you could just as easily match the bid and trade him for 2 top 10 picks?
Freo will match any bid for Fyfe and then just trade him if it ever came to that.

Of all the big name players to walk under free agency NONE have ever had their offer matched by their former club.

As I've posted previously, Danger was traded thanks to the Cats being fearful of the backlash they'd cop (in light of Phil Walsh) if they called Adelaide's bluff.

Freo will absolutely match our offer. They have a shit load of $$ and will want more than pick 9 or so that they will get in compo. We will not have the Hawks pick heading into the 2017 draft and that's perfectly okay. This is why we have it in the first place.

First of all anyone on here who thinks we'd only part with one of our 2 picks for him are delusional. Secondly, don't be surprised if Freo aren't against receiving 2 potentially top 10 picks during this stage of their rebuild, and therefore may not want to offer Fyfe the bucket loads he's being offered from us.

That is certainly a scenario, especially if we hold a top 3 pick.

No you can't, you match it he's yours. You let him walk for the 1.5 million or you pay him 1.5 million. We did it with Goddard, it isn't an auction.

If Freo pay him $1.5 million to run around in a bottom 4 side while they rebuild they would be idiots. It would be like having a Rolls Royce parked next to the caravan that you live in.

Thanks for thinking of us but no thanks. We already have four rucks on our list ( OK not all challenging for a spot) and a very handy looking forward/ruck as a rookie presently.
I'd think our picks are going predominantly on mids.

Incorrect. You match it but player then doesn't sign the contract you have two choices:
1. Trade him.
2. Let him nominate for the Drafts.

What are you talking about? Why is it a certainty that we won't by anyone out? If Fyfe is an FA at the end of the year which, atm he is, then why would we bothet trading for him when we can buy him? No way Freo match 1.5 a year for 5 years, if that's what the deal is I don't see why we'd trade for him when they get a high compo pick anyway...

The idea of free agency is that the suitors come with big money then tempt the player away. The club that currently have the players then have the option to match. Geelong only paid draft picks because they took Dangerfield for about half the value of his actual potential pay packet. Adelaide would have been crazy not to match it. They then had to give something to Adelaide to make it more appealing or otherwise risk blowing their cap out. It was a clever strategy to cheat the system and still get a player but is not the norm.

Like we did with Goddard it would have been irresponsible to pay a huge contract to someone in a team on the slide. It limits fret's rebuild but paying it.

Why all this cloke n dagger scenario. There are better ways to trade. For example did u think that both clubs could come to a mutual agreement. Like Fyfe to saints as a FA, then saints pay 2 1st's for Weller. Then you get 3 1st's. Dont disregard the FA pick it can be worked onto a deal to benefit both clubs. It could be as high as pick 4 or 5. Why waste it. Lucky we have astute professionals that take care of this stuff.

A player has to agree to a trade doesnt he?

If Fyfe nominates us he doesnt have to be traded elsewhere.

Also if OOC he can nominate for the draft.
If we had a top 3 pick we could use that.

Freo lose a player and a top ten pick in that scenario.

I know, this is highly unlikely, but so is the trade in the first place.
