Way too much for a guy past his bestHi sainters
Forgive the intrusion. Hypothetically say u ended up with pick 12, pick 5 (Hawks pick lol), and Fyfe.
Do you think the saints would be interested in pick 12 for Goldy?
Initially I discounted saints as a Goldy suitor but with Fyfe u would be challenging immediately.
Thoughts
We have Hickey, Longer, Pierce as three developing ruckman that are all capable of becoming very good ruckman, why on earth would we go spend a round one selection on a bloke who's going to turn 29 this year? Then 30 next year?He left as a fee agent?
Really??I don't know anything, I just hope no one on here thinks we can get him for only one of our first rounders, he's worth far more than that and will get far more than that
Start standing on your hands WattoThis all sounds very, very dodgy to me.......rumours/whispers and denials.
We could start a thread...."The Fyfe Whisperer" .
I hope I'm wrong but cannot see him coming to the Saints as long as my a*** is facing the ground.
Incorrect. You match it but player then doesn't sign the contract you have two choices:
1. Trade him.
2. Let him nominate for the Drafts.
As stated above me from MG, would you be happy to trade Steven for only one first round pick? Fyfe is a better player than Steven as well. As for the matching scenario, that could be the case but Freo would do everything in their power to matchReally??
So there's no possible way that we could up the first year massively and lower the remaining four....freo then struggle to match numbers and take the FA pick from the afl??
And if not who says he is worth two first round picks?
Not me that's for sure
They get a decent first round pick and something else
Maybe a future
I dont know why i bother, freo can match it and they will, if he wants to go a trade will be facilitated, e.g. The dangerfield trade...No you can't, you match it he's yours. You let him walk for the 1.5 million or you pay him 1.5 million. We did it with Goddard, it isn't an auction.
If Freo pay him $1.5 million to run around in a bottom 4 side while they rebuild they would be idiots. It would be like having a Rolls Royce parked next to the caravan that you live in.

There is absolutely no way we would give up such a pick for someone his age. Maybe try a club that actually needs ruckman for a start next time... we certainly do not
Why? Why would you give up anything for Fyfe when he's a FA? What benefit would we possibly get from trading a pick when we have the war chest to simply outbid Freo for his services? Before you say they'll match I'd point you to Ablett, Buddy and Scully and also the fact that no club has yet matched an FA offer.I'd give up the Hawks pick for Fyfe
Still get another solid first rounder with our own pick
His manager may change his name to Ben if it goes through.20 minutes ago The Age wrote "The Dockers have declined to comment on the veracity of the claim..." Interesting as Fyfe's manager has come out and denied it, "Fyfe’s manager Jason Dover has also told reporters there is no truth to the report." - News.com.au
You would think (hope) that his manager and club were on the same page...
Here we go with the prospect of the saints poaching weller again. Weller resigned with us and said he wants to be a one club player. You dont trade players who want to be at your club it sends a bad message to the group. Why all this cloke n dagger scenario. There are better ways to trade. For example did u think that both clubs could come to a mutual agreement. Like Fyfe to saints as a FA, then saints pay 2 1st's for Weller. Then you get 3 1st's. Dont disregard the FA pick it can be worked onto a deal to benefit both clubs. It could be as high as pick 4 or 5. Why waste it. Lucky we have astute professionals that take care of this stuff.
Give it a rest, this is Fyfe day, go and troll another club.No worries mate.
Just thought upgrading to an all Australian ruckman capable of kicking 5 goals on max Gawn and offering your mids silver service might have been a good short term strategy. But as you said you have pierce. So all good.
He left as a fee agent?
Just spitballing here MG...
A player has to agree to a trade doesnt he?
If Fyfe nominates us he doesnt have to be traded elsewhere.
Also if OOC he can nominate for the draft.
If we had a top 3 pick we could use that.
Freo lose a player and a top ten pick in that scenario.
I know, this is highly unlikely, but so is the trade in the first place.
Let's not act like we have some massive hold over Freo. Why would Fyfe walk to us? If Freo match, he gets $1.5M to stay in his home state, and stay captain of an AFL team that isn't tracking that badly.Incorrect. You match it but player then doesn't sign the contract you have two choices:
1. Trade him.
2. Let him nominate for the Drafts.

How do you know this about SS's wife?
The AFLPA would be pushing the AFL to make sure it happens, it would be the shining light for their free agency model.Let's not act like we have some massive hold over Freo. not entirely
nick dal santo was contracted to st kilda, but there was a clause in his contract where both parties had to agree for him to go for him to have that final year. north came knocking so we agreed to let him go, as we'd get pick 25 for him and then send a late pick to your club for delaney
goldy should only attract an early 2nd rounder for us to be interested
So if it was Jack Steven leaving us as a FA you'd be happy with letting him walk for one top 10 pick when you could just as easily match the bid and trade him for 2 top 10 picks?
Freo will match any bid for Fyfe and then just trade him if it ever came to that.
