This leaves Dusty, who doesn't seem to have too many negatives except for perhaps his off-field sort of stuff.

He's arguably just as good as Fyfe is now, he's proven to be FAR more durable (he's hardly missed a game since his first year or so), he's still improving, he's a genuine "matchwinner", he can win games for you both forward, or in the midfield, he would take the tag away from Steven, he brings some more speed and the big one is that with Richmond having to pay all of Rance, Cotchin, J-Roo, Prestia and still paying some of Delidio's contract, they may struggle to match an offer for Dusty, if we offer him "overs".

Then again, with the increase in the CBA, it may just be that both clubs will be able to match pretty much any offer if they want to, so we may have picked a shocking year to be going really hard at FA, unfortunately.

At least two really high level players are in the mix and Rocky not a bad back up plan. I'm pretty confident we have got to a stage with Fyfe though that he's as good as signed we just need to work out how we can price Freo out. Their board will be pretty unlikely to approve keeping Fyfe if they finish bottom 6 this year on big money. Hopefully they have to match terms and that means we can pay $2.5 in his first year and pay less later. If we can get him as a free agent with out compensating we would have to be crazy not to find a way. Dusty could be keen to stay if they play finals and actually easier to nab if the Tigers fall away late in the season.

I don't think anyone at all is suggesting that they wouldn't want Fyfe in a heartbeat if we were able to get him through FA, but Freo will be able to match an offer no worries, because they're already likely to be paying him close to $1mil PA, so they may only have to find an extra $500K PA, which ought to be a piece of piss for them.

It also doesn't matter how the contract is structured from a front or back-ending POV. Freo only have to match the total dollars and length.

Also, Fyfe plays nothing like Mayne! He plays much more like Bont, who also pushes forward at times.

It's pretty interesting to match Rocky up against our best mid (and probably player in general) in Jack Steven. Rocky beats him in just about everything across his whole career and current season the clangers and disposal efficiency are worse for Jack too. The idea that he doesn't damage teams with his disposal is pretty laughable.

Rocky and dustys stats are identical minus a goal advantage to dusty. Im sold.

he's also 2 years older, 25 vs 27. so we wont get as much footy out of rocky.

problem is when you start to compare previous seasons or their stats at the same age, then you start to see the difference between the two. i think martin has been trending up for a while now:

I may have been privy to a conversation between stkilda listed players and a non stkilda player and have also had other players tell me directly to my face who would know Fyfe - that if a deal was done at the time of that conversation, it would put us as the front runner.fyfe would be on a huge deal.

Forgive me for not going into detail for the time being. just not my place to give specifics other then to say, it comes from a very good link at both clubs

I just read page one by mistake thinking it was the most recent page. Still very very topical especially this beauty...

Just for a moment. Let's all take a breath, think back, and be grateful that Jack Steven signed himself out of the Free Agency circus early on in his FA year.

Imagine us all having to go through this crap with him all year?

great point. man i'm glad about that!!!

Pies mates were telling me they were Treloar off a premiership challenge, it didn't quite pan out. Just saying they over estimated how close they were to a flag and spent up big with draft picks and money.
Theyve had a lot of injuries in the last couple years and there playing pretty good footy now. I dont think they were far off their predictions. They couldnt predict their injuries.
Their well stocked in most parts. They just have to add a good key defender or 2 and a good medium forward and their pretty set.

All they need now is a good coach.
