I don't agree, if we have a fighting fund to lure a star FA we should just price them out of contention in his first few years and keep what we have. You don't go super risky for any player. We should look around if Fyfe costs too much. You would pay him what ever it takes to get a deal done and front load it but to give up on improving our list any further to lure one star looks like Treloar at Collingwood and Judd at Carlton, complete over rating of our list. The FA should be a cherry not an anchor.

Yep agree. Would rather overpay the $ so it is not matched and keep the draft picks.

I don't think anyone at all is suggesting that they wouldn't want Fyfe in a heartbeat if we were able to get him through FA, but Freo will be able to match an offer no worries, because they're already likely to be paying him close to $1mil PA, so they may only have to find an extra $500K PA, which ought to be a piece of piss for them.

It also doesn't matter how the contract is structured from a front or back-ending POV. Freo only have to match the total dollars and length.

Also, Fyfe plays nothing like Mayne! He plays much more like Bont, who also pushes forward at times.

I meant Mundy, and just typed Mayne on auto pilot.
