man I can handle winning the premiership with one free agent, but the idea of doing it with fyfe and gaz just doesn't seem right. One is enough. This mercenary stuff feels cheap. And I understand the want for a premiership may be stronger in some of you older campaigners, but I first got a membership in 2000, was there for the lost and drawn grannies, dealt with the crap at school growing up, etc

Same feeling as beating teams with their best players out

Fyfe is plenty - if it even happens
Couldnt give a flying root. If they helped us win a flag I would be over the moon.

None of the players are or will ever be anything more to me than a vehicle to a flag.

It's all Geelong do.

Completely propelled off the back of Dangerfield and other recruits.
Now expecting Ablett to come for nothing and take them to the next level.

Not to mention the West Coast fraudsters who recruit a 34yo to carry their mids even though there rubbish anyway.

Yeah Nah... wouldn't care if we won a flag and the opposition had their best players out.

Happened to us in 97.

Shouldn't even be a bloody question. GAJ is the ****ing GOAT. 2 year deal, if its supposed over eg a 1st rounder so be it. We complain we dont have the cream on the cake and this guy is that and more. And we chuck him in the guts, no way in hell does he rot in a fwd pocket as an excuse to 'wind the clock back'. Yeah he was a fwd pocket, before he became the best on baller in the modern era.

Dont think itll happen though :(

You don't think he's too old now though ? I don't know what his age is but giving away a first rounder for someone who might only play a year or two seems a bit of a waste because we might not have another first rounder for a while.

Herald Sun running with an opinion piece from Jon Ralph about why we should target Gary Ablett with two year deal. Do people here think the positives would outweigh the negatives?

Absolutely, if he's prepared to take a significant pay cut.

Trade price would be the obstacle. As would the lure of returning to Geelong.

But I could see him bobbing up in the forward line pinching a win in a big final. Or pumping the ball forward when rotating in the midfield.

Highly unlikely though.

Or We can **** over Geelong. Like we did to the hawks ;).

I be too depressed to get Abblet.
Him and Nathan Brown both were part of teams that cost us premierships.

I don't think you're considering the potential mockery at the expense of their former teams if they helped us to a premiership, as well as at Freo for Fyfe who is definitely 100% a lock no joke $800k a year just wants to get out of that minnow club

Ralph made one particularly good point. Aside from the fact that having Gaz could help us win a premiership, preventing him from forming a ridiculously strong combo with Danger and Selwood at Geelong (a team we could be competing with to win said premiership) would be another good reason to get him.

I had the feeling a Cousins-type, even with his issues, may have made the difference in Grand Final day in 2009 so I'm all for getting someone like Gaz to help strengthen our list.

Experienced players are invaluable come finals time. I loved, for instance, when we picked up Stephen Powell back in the 04-05 era when he became available. He really helped strengthen our midfield. If a player like Gaz was available we should definitely have a look.

The cost of Ablett would be a sticking point.

Only saving grace would be his threat to retire may lower the price.
Anyway he will only go yo Geelong.
Him with Selwood and Dangerfield would be offset by our recruiting of Fyfe, Kelly, Martin, whitfield and Rockliff so thats not a worry
