Pick 4 (Hawf) and our 2018 1st for Kelly and our 2017 2nd round pick back.

2017 2nd round pick (25-29 ish) and Hickey to Richmond or the Dogs maybe? Maybe get something decent.
Don't think we'll get something back for Kelly. But happy to give those two first rounders.

Go to the draft with pick 10ish

Post injury Fyfe is yet to prove he's the same player as pre injury Fyfe. Understand people saying they're feeling flat, the only thing that will truly fix that is a Cup. However, it's not wise to dwell on the micro -- the big picture for St Kilda right now is still very good. No doubting Fyfe remains a gun but maybe O'Meara has people thinking? I'm backing in our plan and our team, don't underestimate Ameet. In my mind, Fyfe/Martin/Rockcliff are all non-prospects for us. Means we're chasing a Kelly or Whitfield or combo of players. Worse case scenario we retain 2 first round draft picks, though I think they'll go hard this trade period and land at least 1 player. Yep there's definitely tweaking needed but I feel we're not far away and with a couple of quality additions through that midfield, game-on... No point comparing to other Clubs like Geelong, who seemingly enjoy a great run of success and dubious advantage... That ain't our lot, never will be, we're the Saints, we're the original underdog and when we do finally raise the Cup in September -- it will be like nothing else.

I wouldn't mind going after some left field players like Adam Saad and Jack Martin to bring in some speed. They would be cheap and instantly increase our pace.

Pick 4 is a high pick though. It's not like offering 2 middle of the road 1st rounders. Looking likely Hawks still finish in the bottom 5. Probably 3rd-5th last team. Pick 3 or 4 can be worth about as much as pick 10 and 11 some years. If there's a couple of absolute standouts. But who knows how everything will end up. I think we'll end up with picks 4 and 9. Hope we can go to the draft with one of our 1st round picks and take a quality mid and we trade in another quality mid this year.

the problem is the two first rounders are going to take time to come on, whilst our best is in his prime at 27. so you're in this tough position of having to replace your best mid and find more

roberton, carlisle 26

plus the free agency pool next year is absolute shizen

the art of list management is to build a side that will peak at the same time, not scatter in players over a long period

That doesn't bother me as much because when the two first rounders do come in Ross, Steele, Acres, Billings, Gresham, Stevens, Newnes, McKenzie, Paddy, Membrey a bunch of others will all be hitting their straps.

Combining them with two 2017 first rounders should extend our window by another few years.

While it's true that our best in the midfield is 27yo, there's now very little in it between him and Seb, who has only just turned 24, and we also have some more genuine midfield talent who are a good chance of making Seb-like improvements in the next few years, in Steele, Acres and Gresham and maybe/hopefully even Dunstan, Sinclair and Freeman.

If we were to then add another young "jet" to that group (from the top 5 of this year's draft) and maybe another good one from pick 10ish, we could be building a killer midfield for the future.

Then next year, with mountains of cap space, we go mega-hard at someone like Sloane.

Then in 2019 if we land him we have a midfield of say Sloane, Steven, Ross, Steele, Stevens, Acres, Gresham, Newnes, Billings etc, with the two we got with top 10 picks this year developing under them and we could be pushing really hard for a flag from then on. Steven by then could still have 4 or more good years in him.

Beaten to it..

I reckon our best result would be to trade in two ready-to-go types like Kelly and Z Jones, for our 3 tradeable first rounders.

Then we have a midfield of the following options next year: Kelly, Steven (who could get off the leash if we had Kelly), Ross, Steele, Stevens, Acres, Jones, Roo, Newnes, Armo, Gresham, Billings, Freeman, Sincs, Dunstan (that's 15 pretty useful potential midfield options right there for starters)

a forward line of McCartin, Membrey, Bruce/Roo/Battle/Marshall, Billings, Gresh, Mav, Long/Lonie/Wright/Minch, etc

and a backline of Carlisle, Brown/Goddard, Robbo, Webster, Gilbo, Gears, Joey/Newnes/Jones, Sav, D-Mac etc.

Not seeing too many weaknesses there if most develop as expected and we don't have many if any falling off a cliff, or a really bad injury run.

Hopefully guys like Kelly and Jones see it the same way.

I think they would be a good fit for us. Kelly, Steven, Ross, Steele, Acres could be pretty good rotating through the centre.

It would certainly give us an immediate increase in midfield output. I wouldn't mind finding a fringe bargain player from GWS and give them the Hawks pick 3 or 4 and next years first for Kelly and say Isaac Cummings, he is a running half back but tested elite in a few things from memory. Otherwise someone like Himmelberg would take care of the third tall back position.

Bit tough considering he's re-signed til 2020

Oh, didn't know , was reading from a list I just looked up , obviously hadn't updated it . Forget I mentioned it then .

Never apologise, just knuckle down and pretend you knew all along. Works for me.

Thread needs more Rahul
You've had my opinion on Fyfe (below), seems the list management group sees it the same way, too.

Kelly is 100% what we need, just need to hope he chooses to leave (and I'm not sure he will).

There has been a lot of talk about Balic and Tucker; I have no doubt Bains has someone lined up for those brilliant future second rounder trades.

And for those worried about our ball use in the back half and through the middle - Brandon White. He'll be a gem, and was recruited knowing he'd take time.

Thanks mate, well see you again in a few months! :D :p

So has anyone anywhere actually shown sources saying we are no longer into Fyfe? There is literally one article claiming it with nothing in it to back it up.

I reckon that article is about as close as you'll get to an official open admission that we're no longer in the race for him. They wouldn't have put it on the back page of the paper if they didn't get it from us I don't imagine.

Gee...

Maybe their are better options than Fyfe which have stepped up?

If we have pulled the pin then it's probably because we have come to agreement with someone with as much potential for less $$$.

Cheer up. Long way to go yet.
Worst case scenario... we use what may be a top 3 pick in the draft, or trade it for something or someone else that is killer! :)

Have said all along, what a great worst case scenario.

As far as drafting and trading goes we are a bit spoilt to be 'dissapointed' with 'only' having two top 10 dps.

Teo things with Rahuls post above. His link to his early Feb posts about Fyfe were absolutely spot on especially about Seb and Koby. Great points and well put.

Secondly he is spot on with White. A booming kick whose accuracy is getting better and better.
