Which is what, as Brian Waldron said he is staying at GWS & he was emphatic about it.

I've said it on this board and privately to those that have asked, I have a feeling Kelly stays but if he leaves I believe he will be a Saint.
There's so many better opinions than Brian Waldron in the media too.

I don't rate Whitfield in any way close to to Kelly but if it can save us picks and dollars I'm warming to him. I reckon until we sort out our contested centre work he will drop off a lot. He's not a guy who wins much of his own ball and needs supply like Gaff. At a club with a lack of inside ball winners he might struggle at first.

We could see if we could do a deal to get him and he French rent boy as a duo for the Hawks pick. Buntine has a knee injury but was starting to look a pretty reliable player last year. Rumours he's going to be shunted for cap space next year anyway. Whitfield isn't worth 2 firsts to me even with Buntine thrown in.
We have improved inside this year, Whitfield would be a good fit for us.

Whitfield had a very good finals series last year, he has very good skills which you would expect. What surprised me was how clean his ball handling was under heavy pressure.

He's not Kelly and wouldn't command any more than a first rounder imho. Buntine is an interesting one, what's he worth coming off a knee and where would we play him. GWS have repurposed some of these guys wasn't he a midfielder when he was drafted.

Can you imagine the fights for the mirror in the change rooms we have few who fancy themselves already.

Can't wait for the day Kelly requests a trade to us, the north board will be priceless.
Can you be carded on their board for ironically liking all the shit posting they would do about us if he comes to the Saints?

Lance Uppercut used to do that about my post on the Essendon drugs scandal and I found it most disconcerting

Not quite as bad as Dom Sheed . Can't believe someone threw his name up yesterday . I nearly vomited
What's with the Eagles picking up Barrass and Sheed?

Did their recruiting bloke think they were getting Barassi and Sheedy?

Whitfield contracted would cost 2 firsts no question.
Anything less and gws do what carlton did with bryce last year- no deal.

The same thing we would do if someone offered us 1 first rounder for gresh... laugh and walk away.

Hes a great player I'd say the fact the coach cracked the shits and sent him to the VFL speaks volumes

Hes a ticking time bomb. I reckon you'd have significantly less issues than dusty

I assume you mean there'd be less trouble from Dusty? I agree.
Libba seems like a real party boy.

If whitfield requires two lst rounders, what would it take for Hopper?

In any case I would be chasing Rocky.

We really need outside run. Rocky doesn't help our most important player and that's Steven. We can get him as a second player but we need a Kelly or Whitfield type first of all.

You might be right but they can't keep them all, maybe GWS would be happy enough with that.

Yes him being contracted means GWS hold all the cards.

We need a clearance player too. We suck there
We have Stevens, Ross, Steele and even Steven for clearances.

We dont suck there.

We desperately

DESPERATELY

need outside run.

Freeman will be a bonus. Kelly or a Whitfield would be

YUGE.

Prefer Zac Jones to Rockliffe

Just looking back at the old Chris Judd trade.

What Carlton gave up for Judd was the equivalent of if we gave up McCartin and a first round pick, and a second round pick, getting a third back.

Now it seems that just about everyone is worth 2 first round picks.
I'm not buying the inflation. The value of a first round pick is still what it always was.
Is Whitfield worth what Judd was in 2007?

Scott Thompson went to Adelaide for pick 12.
Josh Carr went to Freo for 11,27, and 45, to play for 4 years.
Nathan Thompson , North for pick 10 to play for 4 years.
Ottens to the Cats was picks 12 and 16.
Mind you this was the crappy Tambling draft.

Lets look back at the Superdraft 2001.
Freo gave ups picks 1, 20 and 36 for Trent Croad and Luke McPharlin. Yes McPharlin was good. But the Hawks got Hodge, and Mitchell.
The pick the Saints gave up for Black ( who turned into Fiora ) was the James Kelly Pick.
We were lucky we got Dal Santo with the rest of the Hall Trade.

I guess I'm trusting Ameet and the guys to know what's in the draft and know exactly what they are trading away. Its all part of the equation.

Not since Stevens has come into the side. We have won or broken most games. We wont improve our midfield play until we get more runners to help Steven. He is one out and they are just sitting on him. If we only got Rocky they would still sit on Steven but if we got Kely or even Whitfield they may sit on them or they run free. A win either way.

Our Best clearance player is Ross, averaging 6 per game.
Rockliff and Wallis average around 10 each.

Most other clubs also have inside mids who are better able to win the contested ball.

Whats going on with Devon Smith & Jacob Hopper both are reported to be wanting out yet have hardly been mentioned here? I for one would love either of them Smith is an outside finisher with great skills and Hopper is going to be a classier version of Jack Steele.
All I keep on reading in the media is that Smith is in the process of re-signing with GWS and very much expected to stay.

Disagree. We dont suck there. Our inside mids are fine. Get them with a Kelly or Freeman on the outside and our mids are off to the races.

Like the backline, the injection of class (Carlisle) and a Gorilla (Brown) has made Roberton and Webster dangerous attacking weapons off half back.

Imagine how much better Steven or Steele can get with Kelly in their midsts.

Also remember we have a tonne of improvement in our mids. Steele 20+ only games, Ross still learning, Koby can still improve.

Acres has heaps of potential and still limited games. Billings should get more mid time ad he improves.

To just say "they suck" belies the fact they are still developing.

Kelly or a Whitfield will help tjat immensely. Rockliff, not so much.

Does Waldy know him? I didn't mean it disrespectfully, just that there's others in the media who are closer to the source.

I may be wrong but there was a running joke that waldy is Brian Waldron ;)
