The height of the players vs parents crossed my mind while watching too.

Speaking of tall players...........I got the feeling that , despite the brave front , Ben King was sick as a dog inside about being picked by GCS. Felt sorry for him.
Then there was Callum Brown, Josh Daicos, Liam Picken - all shorter than their fathers. Against the modern day trend

I think I must rate Hogan way higher and May much lower than everyone else, because I think that deal made them significantly worse in the short and long term.
I am with you there.

Hogan an absolute star, just 23 and ready to become the best CHF in the game....IF he wants to.

May is a good player.

But Dees a weaker team in 2019 and moving forward without Hogan for mine.

Our key defensive stocks, short and long term really aren’t all that crash hot if you look at it objectively. Marsh is a player who can come in and immediately play a role to a good standard at senior level, is a leader onfield, and is young enough to regard as a long term player replacement for the likes of Dunn and Goldsack. I think there’s plenty of justification in taking him, especially if it’s only on a rookie contract.

If the club felt that way, it would have been very easy for them to recruit Marsh instead of Roughhead.

Or Marsh instead of whichever Irish lad is Cat A

Marlion Pickett is a mature-aged indigenous player from WA.

GOLD Coast and West Coast are tracking ready-to-go South Fremantle midfielder Marlion Pickett ahead of a near-certain step up to AFL ranks next season.

AFL.com.au understands the Suns, keen to bolster their onball stocks, have spoken to the 26-year-old, described by one WAFL official as "hard as they come".

Pickett has shone this season after switching from playing as a rebounding half-back into midfield to cover the absence of last year's Sandover Medal runner-up Kelly.

A breakout performance in round six against Swan Districts showed why Pickett has recruiters excited. The tough nut asked for a switch into midfield from half-back this season to make the most of his pace and skills, and soon delivered a 30-possession – 21 of them contested – nine-clearance, seven-tackle, five-inside-50 and one-goal performance.
Reckon he's a chance of getting taken by us?

He was expected to be taken by someone, with a few clubs being linked to him. Why it didn't happen I'm not sure. Perhaps his age counted against him, or maybe the go-home factor scared off non-WA clubs, despite his claim that he was happy to play anywhere!

It seems highly likely we will have that free spot available in a couple of months time, so he would have to be a chance as a player who appears to be ready to play straight away. He doesn't really fill a need in terms of the position he plays, so it might come down to whether someone like Marsh is seen as more of a need.

There's some highlights of Pickett in action here, and I for one will get excited if we do end up with him!: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-23/dont-miss-plugandplay-pickett-wafl-coach-warns

Keane + Tohill are unknown quantities. They could be gone in 12 months for all we know. Madgen in a similar boat, although he at least has been tested at senior level.
Roughead is 28, and we don’t know if we can get him back to his best. Dunn and Goldsack on the wrong side of 30. Scharenberg with 3 ACL’s. As much as I rate him his future doesn’t seem all that bright. Kelly will take a year or two to develop at a minimum. Murphy still developing. Moore is injury prone. I’ll leave out the smalls given Marsh is 194cm.

Marsh is / was a great athlete, but his decision making and kicking were poor, causing Bucks a lot of frustration. Can’t carry these players in big games, as they get targeted and can cost you the lot.

Add the uncertainty around moving, plus the other issues that he has faced, and clubs must’ve seen too many risks to warrant a spot.

I would’ve loved to have kept the extra pick and taken Jok. Pisses me off that the bombers pinched him. Will develop and could be the next Aliir... which would be v handy. Understand we would’ve needed to downgrade a senior player, but if rules permit, shouldn’t have been a problem

We'll certainly be watching how he goes at Essendon with great interest, and if he turns into a player there will be some angst! The same can be said about Hore at Melbourne. I hope both do well, just not too well!

We really were up against it as far as having spare list spots this time around, I don't think anyone retired (apart from Kirby), only Fasolo chose to move, and we didn't have many we could delist. So taking Jok never seemed a chance. From the brief bit that I saw of him I'd have only considered him as a rookie pick at best, and since Essendon took him with their first pick in the Rookie Draft even if we had tried to get him there we wouldn't have got him.

As for leaving a spot on the main list to pick him up, we already took Broomhead and Murray off, and I just don't think we had enough "wriggle room".

in Anton’s video he mentioned he would come in as cat b
Yeah, I did hear that, but I think that might have a lot to do with the fact that the Irish players are simply signed "under Cat. B conditions", that is, they can be recruited outside of the draft. Now they're here and on our list the club will need to sort out which one of the two is to be Cat. A, which one is Cat. B. Presumably that's been done by now, but we haven't heard anything.

It's not that often that a club brings in two Irish players at the same time, but when they do they do have that decision to make, and I imagine they'd put the one who they think can play senior football first as the Cat. A. The only time I can think of recently where this happened was when St Kilda brought in Connellan and Joyce a couple of years back. I can't remember which one ended up Cat. A and who was Cat. B.

St Kilda has added two new Irish rookies to its international stable in the club's latest step towards growing its talent base outside of the AFL draft.

The Saints have signed teenaged hurling star Darragh Joyce and 22-year-old Ray Connellan, a member of 2015 International Rules squad, with both young Irishman to relocate to Melbourne as early as next month.

Under an AFL agreement with the Gaelic Athletic Association clubs are only allowed one Irish player on their international (category B) rookie list which dictates that the older player Connellan is likely to come to the Saints as a category A rookie.

Agree with most of that. Can't really judge his work without a far greater knowledge of contract sizes and salary cap implications for the future, that's his main job isn't it.

Just to add on the Lynch front, I'd like to think that if it was a bid off, we would have or should have walked away. If media reports are true, 6 years on huge money for a bloke who's already showing some signs of physical vulnerability, is a russian roulette move in my opinion..
I can tell you from someone I trust that knows the Lynch family well is that we could not compete with the money/terms that the Tigers put. The club scrambled and did its best but wasn’t in the ballpark.

hi everyone , just wondering if anyone knows if in the next 2 or 3 years have we got any potential father and sons or academy prospects?
If you can wait that long the younger of the Daicos boys (Nick) is meant to be draft eligible at the end of 2021 (I'm almost certain that's when it is)! He's been talked about for years as being much more talented than his older brother. Unfortunately, it seems to be that he was born early in January, if it had been late December the year before we'd have only had a two-year wait, but it should be three years before we can get him!

So we had access to Bailey Wraith this year (and may still pick him up as a Category B, though that's unlikely). Under NGA rules, we can nominate him next year as well, but that would be our last chance.

Next year we will also have access to Thariel Ter, a lanky midfielder. Both of these players are not considered strong players.

In the next few years we will have the opportunity to draft Nick Daicos, and current reports seem to indicate he's quite good.

Gotta stockpile those picks that year for the points! I have no idea what is on the horizon for the end of 2021, but based on what I've read about Nick Daicos so far if he stays on that trajectory he's an early first rounder.

Perhaps we consider him a half back?

It won't be popular to say but the money Mayne, Wells and Greenwood were on hamstrung us. It's pretty apparent. It's why Hine isn't list manager anymore. It's a huge loss for us because our side with Lynch would be awesome. We probably wouldn't have Beams though, but Lynch would make us more well rounded. That review came a wee bit late for us for Lynch. The damage was done.

I'm sure we could find a spot for him! He does seem to have the talent, he supposedly has his attitude right, so you must wonder why clubs still ignored him.
Has anyone seen him at waafl. I like him, but unless his kicking has improved, he's probably not the way to go.
