The continually losing A Graders thing is a bit of a furphy to be honest. Dangerfield, Tippett and Bock were A Graders when they left.

Blokes like Davis, Gunston, Lever, McGovern and Cameron were all young, potential A Graders when they left.

When blokes cement themselves as A Graders here (Sloane, Talia, Laird, M Crouch, Smith, Lynch) they rarely seem to leave.

I suspect the main issue is we pay on performance rather than potential.

Go to the GC board.

They have basically said thanks, but no thanks.

They are polite and friendly bunch.

Ive been busy trying to sell our picks to them lol. :p :drunk::drunk::drunk::drunk:
I didn't think they had any supporters. Are they supporters the AFL has planted?:)

If I were them I’d be taking Luko with pick 2, then selling 3 to Port for 5 + a future pick (telling them we’re going to do it) Then selling us pick 5 for pick 8 + an extra pick.

Or something like that. I mean with Luko in their pocket and pick 6 still to be used, the guys they get with the extra picks more than make up for the one they missed.

I'm not super bullish on our 2019 chances yet. I think we bounce back into finals but as of right now we haven't tangibly improved our team via trade week. Whereas most of our competitors have with a big recruit or making the most of a bad hand.

Richmond have added one of the most promising KPFs in the league.
Collingwood brought back a favourite son in a very similar move to us with Gibbs.
Melbourne whilst losing Hogan, have added May who will fill the Talia role for them allowing Lever to just do what he does best. Along with KK who is a handy best 22 piece.
Essendon gained Shiel and they were the best team outside of the 8 this year, not us.

Despite that I still think we can easily jump the likes of Port, North, Hawthorn (despite their massive list changes), Geelong and Sydney.

I know big name recruits wasn't the focus of our year this season, but I am worried the end result is going to be us left in the dust in terms of the pointy end of the competition.

I said two are unproven novices and one (Hart) is a proven failure.

Re the rest of your rambling: Fagan has a bridge to sell you.

Supporters like you are the AFC's bread and butter. They couldn't run it the way they do without you. Symbiosis.
I wouldn't say novices as such.

YOU make them come home, afterall you make it sound so easy. The Trigg years are long gone but what he left behind has taken years to clean up.
Not excuses just facts, a vast differance from excuses.

More crap has happened since Trigg left.
Never have 3 best 22 under 25 left like now.

Who was offered $500-$800k to arrive at the crows this year?

Which tough call has been made about delistings or trades? Hampton Gibson Dear ? Wait Edwards and Jarman. the biggest call

A failed year without 1 person losing their job from board to coaches to medical/fitness to playing group.

Richmond traded out a lot of their depth to acccomdate Lynch's salary. Best 22 is stronger but now more susceptible to injury.

I think Melbourne trading Hogan was a bit too clever by half in all honesty. May certainly makes their defence better but they're wagering a lot on Weideman to be able to perform at a high standard.

Agree Collingwood is the stand-out. Starting midfield with Beams, Adams, Treloar and Sidebottom feeding off Grundy is obscene.

lucky their forward line and backlines aren't A grade

The way I see it the club had 2 options this year and trade season.
Option 1. Club is still in the premiership window. Not quite good enough but if we trade/draft well it could tip us over the line. That strategy should have meant that club was selective in who they contracted this year and a player or two with value that may have netted us a top 10 to 15 pick should have been moved. This would have resulted in around 6 to 7 picks within the top 30. Then we should have turned 4 of those into 2 top 6 picks. That should have netted us 1 top line SA boy with a top interstater or 2 top line SA boys. The others 2 or 3 picks should have been the best talent that can give immediate impact around pick 20 to 30. That way the top SA talent may help us win a flag but if they don't we have invested in 10 to 15 year career that will stay.
Option 2. Club believes we are not good enough to win a flag. Club is super selective who we sign and anyone not part of the next flag tilt is on the table. Not all are traded but some are. Nett result is that there is substantial salary cap moved and we would have had potentially 8 or 9 picks in the top 35. Some could have been used on trades around the 23 to 24 age bracket with the additional salary space or we go the same strategy as before. 4 picks used to get 2 topliners in the top 6 and 4 or 5 in the 20 to 35 pick range. We pick best available talent with an emphasis on local if we can.

What did we do? Neither. What we did could potentially set the club back 5 years in winning a flag. Hope they prove me wrong.

It reminds me a bit of Crows circa 2002 with near peak Mcleod, Roo, Goodwin, Edwards and Johnson all playing together.

Only to have Basset getting monstered trying to play as a true Full Back and to have no forwards to speak of.

Tried hard but. His size always put him at a disadvantage. He did well considering

I dont know how having 4 good draft picks sets us back 5 years.

Also, we aren't a Rankine, Lukosius or Rozee away from a premiership, I cant see how any of those 3 would have made a dramatic difference to the side next season...... but we still may snag one.

Im waiting to see how our preseason goes and whether we do any more stupid camps that f**k with the players minds.

For starters, if any player misses a large chunk of the preseason, their season might as well be effectively over. Seen this happen time and again too many times.

JLT may be a long long way away, but its our first taste to see where our players are at.

The 3rd option is thinking we still have a core of players that took us to a grand final before a year of injuries. Get those guys back on the park along with players who developed greatly last year like Gallucci and Milera. Fill in our small forward weakness and take our strongest ever arsenal to the draft in the hands of the best recruiter in the comp.

Crazy that people on here think they know better than some of the most respected guys in their industry.

Can some of you not renew your memberships we got people on the waiting list.

I’m fully aware we haven’t got things 100% right but **** me the negativity is at unbelievable levels.

Just chill out and let 2019 unfold - who knows it might surprise you.

Mind you 2018 did surprise the f**k out of me. :drunk:

Pyke has said if they do another camp it'll just be a skills focused one and just to change things up a bit. Doubt we'll repeat last year's mistakes.

I'll feel a bit better about the up coming preseason with Saunders on board too.

If we get another Milera, Smith, Doedee with these 4 picks ....how can that be bad ?? ....I agree with you

It would be great to show what position in the draft he got them at. It further amplify just how well he did.

When next years draft is redone in hindsight one day, Im confident Fog will go top 5.

Astonishing to go 10 years without a miss really

(granted the last couple of years aren't certainties).

Compare that to SOS, where ffs even you or I could land a talented kid if you have high draft picks.

Its like shooting fish in a barrel.

Any club in the land would be extremely envious of that drafting from mainly teens picks in the 1st round. I don't think there are many on this board that doubt that we will take 4 players that are likely to turn out to be very good players with the picks we have. I think it is more that we have had such a strong hand that the expectation was that with Lukosius and Rankine projecting to be some of the best talent we have seen from SA in years that we woudl be moving the pieces to engineer a pick or 2 to grab them or at least one of them. With our list as it is, the additions of McAdam and Stengle and the growth of Milera, Gallucci etc, the form of Seedsman and the return of Smith and probably M Crouch, we are in a postion where we could really have been bold to ensure we took one of these guys that project to be next level. It may still happen and I for one would love to see it. If it doesn't and we see Rankine running around in Teal, I just hope and pray that the players we take end up being at least as good as Rankine and Luko under our system to make missing these guys worth it from a supporters perspective
