I wouldn't be dropping him just yet but if horses for courses applies to the bowlers he'd want to get some runs in his next three innings.

That goes without saying. He's in the team to make runs and if he continues to fail he should be dropped. I'm just making the point that for all the criticism that surrounds Warner, the thing that annoys me most is people saying he's not as good away as he is at home, and that applies to most cricketers around the world.

Silly question time

Rory Burns caught by Bancroft...Aleem Dar raises left hand and signals out...Burns stands his ground...umpires come together and confer, finally calling for a third umpire decision. Decision is given as out and Burns departs.

Question: Who called for the replay? Is Burns not walking off classed as a challenge? He would have been timed out if the clock had been running.

Did I miss anything here?

It's a good question. That should be classified as a review in my book. Umpires have given it out, the fielder says he caught it, what recourse does the batsman have? I've often wondered that myself.

Missed most of last night, watched the highlights this morning. Pitch actually looked pretty good to bat on in the 2nd and 3rd session, is that right?

Would Harris be a horse in England? I think he'd turn out to be more of a donkey. The whole discussion is ridiculous, it's not as if Warner's keeping a Chris Rogers clone out of the side. Besides, if Bancroft fails twice in this test and people want Warner dropped as well what's the solution?

That figure is misleading. His recent test average from the last 18 months is actually closer to 4.
I'm fairly confident he can be easily replaced.

No doubt Warner's past record and current failures in Eng is a concern, but I doubt Aus will risk having potentially a revolving door of replacements at the top of the order mid series...?

180-210 max after sending them in. Will be a draw anyway. Actually think England will be relatively happy with getting 258.

Have you at least got some stats re winning the toss bowling then conceding more than the 210 max and losing?

Warner averages 35 outside Australia. Not great but not terrible.

If there was someone banging the door down you'd think about horses for courses and replace him outside Australia but there really isn't.

We had a couple guys that were scoring runs while Warner was out...is that not enough?

What doors does he need to be banging down...shield doesn't start for a few months yet

We can't even easily fill a top 6 with world class batsmen. And despite how Warner is going right now, he is infinitely better than Bancroft who just doesn't look an international quality bat at all (* hope he tons up tonight lol).

So no, he can't easily be replaced.

Re: whether Bancroft could be a 'specialist fielder', it is possible.

Section 24: https://icc-static-files.s3.amazona...3-Mens-Test-Match-Playing-Conditions-2018.pdf

24.1.1 The umpires shall allow a substitute fielder
24.1.1.1 if they are satisfied that a fielder has been injured or become ill and that this occurred during the match, or
24.1.1.2 for any other wholly acceptable reason. In all other circumstances, a substitute is not allowed

If you clear that hurdle then it's all good, they can even WK at umpiring consent.

And that person who can easily replace him and do a good job is............
If I was on the selection panel I would tell you.
However, the thing is you never really know who has the ability to make it and who doesn't until they are given the opportunity as so much of performing at elite sport rests between the ears.

Woke up and saw the score. We're well in front and hopefully those who questioned us sending them in will be a bit more happy now.
C'mon mate. It's Bigfooty.

Nonetheless there are players at the level below from where the selection must come. Who has a record at FC level even comparable to Warner's test record?

You said he can easily be replaced. I could easily give a name and the selectors could easily change one player for another...... that's the easy part. The problem is when they aren't good enough.

For a start Bancroft is miles behind Warner and he's currently the other opening option we're going with. I'd prefer Harris personally to Bancroft but if Bancroft is considered one of our best 2 opening options then your point that he can easily be replaced is clearly wrong.
