Retain the Ashes. We have to win or draw the next Test to win the Ashes.

I accept that there's a distinction, but I really don't think people care. Walk away with the urn at the end of the series, you won.

Just make sure you use the reviews properly tonight boys. The umps have made it pretty clear the interpretation of LBW is different for both teams.
They cannot wait to fire our boys when we bat and refuse to give the Poms out if it is anywhere near close :drunk:

Australian run tallies so far -
Smith 672
Labuschagne 291
Wade 201
Head 191
Paine 159
Khawaja 122
Warner 79
Pattinson 69
Cummins 62
Starc 57
Lyon 54
Siddle 53
Harris 46
Bancroft 44
Hazlewood 8
Starc is within 22 of Warner having played just the one game.

Punter spot on

Shouldn’t have run 9 overs each before tea to wear them out
Then needed to keep it tighter. Just trampled all session.

And the time wasting was egregious.

No Paine won’t. If we win tonight Australia will still have to win or draw the 5th Test for Tim Paine to have an Ashes win as captain.

Not quite IMO. If we draw it's an Ashes win but we won't have won a series win in England since 2001.

The Ashes is just the 'trophy' with a lot of history behind it. I kind of agree with you though, even if we win this I won't be satisfied until we've genuinely won a series out here as it won't feel nearly as good.

I do wonder if most of us would have the same attitude as Harmy if Smith were English.
Dinesh Chandimal came out here after getting done for ball tampering 3 months after Smith (he also almost had the test abandoned when he refused to take the field after he was charged). It was not even mentioned once.

Good website for quick-check of runs/wickets etc:

I can save y'all some looking-time, though --- when it comes to EVERY category below:
--- Most runs (671 to Stokes' 353)
--- Highest score (211, 144, 142, then Stokes 135)
--- Highest strike rate (67 to Stokes' 58)
--- Most hundreds (3 to Stokes' 2)
--- Most fours (79 to Stokes' 38 :drunk:)
Steve Smith is at the top, having batted twice less than Stokes!

Put another way, if Smith had not played, Stokes would be the standout player by far for Man of the Series (so far). Smith has 318 more runs.

Not 318 runs, mind you.
318 more runs.

Very very different. If Eng are somehow still batting at tea then Aus have either bowled absolute rubbish and/or dropped catches....
Or they continue to ride their luck, both Burns and Root were both big wickets as they can bat a very long time so we "should" easily win this (even if they ride their luck).

They can ride their luck all they want, but on this deck there is no way they will score 120 runs per session, even if they had 5 Ben Stokes's in their batting line up....
