Does anyone have a strong opinion on whether Labs nicked his last night?

Honestly think he hit it but it’s a tight call

England great Steve Harmison:

Hahahahahahahshahah

Delicious.

Let the tears flow Harmy, however when they dry you’ll still be able to read SPD Smith at the top of every batting list for the rest of your life ahahahahahaha
Needs more mints

Yeah, odd mix isn't it?
Just as well Labuschagne got his runs when he did, with cameos later from Paine, Starc and Wade.
I thought for great eye and clean-hitting that Sobers was the best I'd seen, with Gilly close, Viv Richards too,
Lara/Tendulkar/Kohli, Ponting and more, but Smith! :drunk:
Smith makes the impossible possible.

I am luckily of the era to see Lillee bowling to Sir Viv at Adelaide Oval
Sometimes being old is good

most to least significant english wickets
1) stokes
2) root
3) burns
4) bairstow
5) denly
6) buttler
7) roy
8) overton
9) leach
10) archer
11) broad
good to get 2) and 3) out already

warner's form is really worrying. even in the innings where he made 61, he:
played and missed countless times
scored a few streaky boundaries
and was fortunate that 15 runs came from overthrows

And Steve Harmisson will always be remembered as the guy who bowled the first ball of an ashes series straight to 2nd slip lmao
What a sad POS. He's just salty he's a forgettable nobody, whose ONLY claim to fame is his ******ed ball to second slip. Steve Smith will go down as a legend, In 5 years only cricket tragics/nerds will remember Harmison.

It's just another form of rankings and who cares about those.

Poms were wasting time and bowled 6 overs in 40 minutes last night. Someone said they don't fine / suspend captains for over rates anymore they just dock points from that.

Hmm survival in the ashes v losing test championship points let me think about that before I waste some time......

We bowled 6 overs in 40 minutes yet got 22 overs in the 100 mins bowled after tea (that's a better rate than Australia bowled at all day by the way)?

Decks going to be very hard to bat on from lunch onwards imo

Even from tea yesterday it was getting up and down and most of the Poms defensive shots were hitting very low on the bat ( ok it wasn’t Bradman/Smith batting ) with a brand new rock . That’s a pretty good sign batting is only getting a lot tougher .

Australia would have to seriously mess this up and England bat out of there skins for Australia not to win.

Actually, Harmison was a bit like Johnson only his highs were not quite as high. But his lows could be bloody low, when he got the yips, I felt sorry for him as it could be truly horrible to watch a player losing the plot like that.

Author of this article:
gets 10/10 for this:
"From a deficit of 196 on the first innings, England briefly had hope after four quick wickets.
Smith snuffed it out in darkly comic fashion, with declaration batting like delirium tremens conveyed through interpretive dance. "

The ABC cricket writers and the live blog are excellent.

Anyone around Manchester? What’s the weather observations?

I get that, but I was baffled by the lack of replays and analysis following the dismissal, when everything else seems to analysed to within an inch of its life.
Inside edge clearly visible to the naked eye.
They need to be ready, willing and able to over-ride the technology when it clearly fails like this.

I accept that there's a distinction, but I really don't think people care. Walk away with the urn at the end of the series, you won.
This . The advantage of ‘holding’ the Ashes is you only have to draw a series to retain them .

If Australia win tonight and tick that box off I would say it’s a huge achievement given we’ve had better credentialed sides post 2005 fail to do so .
Winning the series outright would be sone seriously good icing on the cake

Why? It went upstairs, no deflection or snicko present, no edge, clear LBW, was very, very lucky it was umpires call given he didn't even consult with Smith who always seems to tell plays not to bother, it doesn't seem like anyone who bats with Smith ever reviews
