**** me Barrett's a knob! When Hocking explained the 'kick around the corner rule' ie; the kick must still go over the mark in line with the goals, Barrett quips back that it clarifies Buddy's running outside the mark. NO IT DOESN"T YOU ****ING FOOL what Buddy does should be called 'play on' every ****ing time

What I don’t get is if we’re in full press mode and it goes through for a point and the player just plays on from the kick in without players having an opportunity to get back 20 meters what happens? A 50?

Generally a bunch of rule changes that many of are probably unnecessary, yet they make no change to the worst rule introduced in recent times, the protected zone.

They did slightly change the interpretation of this and it did improve, but I believe there is a simple answer to this one. Don’t pay a 50m penalty unless a player that moves through the protected zone actually impedes the player with the ball. Effectively like a passive off side rule.

This one worries me a bit.....Umps already have difficulty interpreting the rules, how much difference is there between 'protecting your space' and a 'push in the back'
Too grey for my liking
Which is why they brought it in the first place. It at least made it a bit more black and white, we are just going back to more shades of grey with half of these changes.

So it's the same as grabbing out of the ruck and getting tackled like now, FMD these idiots are ****** in the head.

No the rucks prior is the ball being thrown in under the old rule. That’s why they get pinged every time they grab it and get touched by an opposition player. The prior now is the ruck grabbing the ball from the throw in. But basically all he needs to do now is make a realistic attempt to get rid of the ball legally and no free against.

This hands in the back rule change is stupid. I thought they were going to make it more clear about what hands in the back is ie not players falling forward in the tackle to milk the free and incidental contact. Now a straight arm push in the back is allowed in a markings contest? Lol

RIP Alex Rance, he has to man up now.

These rules are rough for your mob.

On the flip side, it's a great time to pick up Lynch.

He has the best 1;1 winning percentage in the comp dickhead

I tell you what though, LOL to the team who gets to play in the season opener who also gets reamed by the umpires with all these rule tweaks, hahahaha suck shit arseholes...

oh shit....hang on a minute...

we play in the opener, we get reamed by the umpires...

OH ******* SHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTT
Well we play the season opener and guess what we get reamed anyway, they will invent new ways to ream , the no in the back rule is open to a lot of interpretation

Surely if the kicker in guy tries a fast break as soon as he crosses the goal square line he’s fair game. Ridiculous otherwise.
How can you get out of the way if there’s a pack contest in the square and it’s knocked thru?
Tell you what though, the fast break from a point will have an impact next year. Don’t like it. Kicking it to yourself first is a part of the fabric. Otherwise it is just basketball.

No not really, they actually favour us.

I reckon they hurt our forward pressure ability from general play behind.

Man on the mark is further back and players can just sprint out of goal square and get it 65m+ away quickly.

It won't be any faster because they still need to wait until the umpire signals a behind, it just a rule brought in as a reaction to people bagging the 18m square so this is the alternative because the idiots are just too damn stubborn, players are still going to chip into the pocket it's just they don't need to kick from behind the line anymore.

And when a player oversteps it is no longer a ball up because a player doesn't need to kick to himself anymore.

AFL has this imaginary picture in their heads about how they think the game should look which is end to end score fests, and when it doesn't turn out how they imagined they are going to tweak things mid season and further **** things up. By trying to ease congestion they are actually contributing to having more and the dills don't even realise it.

Mark my words this is what will happen

1. rounds 1-3 will be shootouts as they are every year, the AFL and media will rave that the rules are a success.
2. the clamps then get applied by teams because coaches hate being scored against and backlines start finding their groove.
3. media will whinge that the game is in ruins because the scoring dried up
4. half the games will be terrible because shit truck teams will still be shit something the AFL doesn't get.
5. AFL will over react again threatening more rules should be introduced and away we go again, rinse and repeat.

You’ve got no idea... they won’t be able to run a fast break because they are introducing ad breaks after a behind is scored to give players time to set-up*

*may or may not be the real reason for the ad break!

Most teams are reluctant to kick to a contest so will still chip into the pocket, it actually helps our forward press because the turnover goes back into a slightly less crowded F50 where Jack, Tom, Dusty and the smalls are sitting. As it is now we turn it over and send it back in to a still crowded 50 reducing our chances of scoring, hence why we have high inside 50 numbers but can't score.

Players still have to wait till umpire signals a behind, players very rarely got chased down anyway from 5m away so it's a mute point anyway.

Again it favours us because we always kick long after a behind and very rarely go short into the pocket.

Not really and here is why and it's to our favour, we set up a bit further back thus reducing the team kicking in to be able to go coast to coast or get out over the back, what it also does is open up your forward 50 and if you have a couple of real mobile gun forwards who can use this space to their advantage then your going to have days out....hi Jack hi Tom. :D

So in effect when we turn it over, instead of going back into a crowded 50 we go back into an open 50.

The george's the rioli's the dusty's the caddy's are also going to have parties.

Oh and Dusty one out with hands in the back being relaxed.

These changes have actually enhanced us.

I think you are half right. The only downside is you are now defending the half back / wing area. Much wider. Much harder to defend. It decreases our effectiveness somewhat but if we can nut it out then yep hello open fwd line.
This goes for all teams though. We don't own a monopoly own defending the fwd 50, we are just the best at it.
Jack will push up to defend the kick out as he reads it off boot basically better than anybody. Maybe even Lynch. Vlaus come up. Transition Dusty to 1 out as you started. Booyah.
It will decrease the effectiveness of that part of our game though.....but only from kick ins....keep the ball live in the 50 and nothing changes

I think the doc's and trainers become important with the restrictions on the runner's and water carriers only allowed on the ground after a goal and havr to be off the ground before the next bounce .Can see players going down with a fake injury so the doc and trainers can get a message out .
