I think so. Pick 8 gets it done IMO:

I think age profile, position and contractual status would mean it would need to be a premium pick to make it happen.

The swans would need to sell this one to their members that they were willing to let him walk with a year (or an un-triggered 3 years) to go on his contract. The only way they do that is for overs (Pick 8) IMO.
How do you know it is untriggered?

Pick 8 is not enough IMO and I would be disappointed with that return.

My understanding is that it’s the same as the Levi Casboult situation.

The player may have triggered some clauses for an automatic contract extension, but he still needs to agree to the new deal.

Casboult automatically triggered a contract extension this year, but hasn’t accepted this new deal and will invoke his free agency status.

I don’t understand what you are trying to say in this post.
I'm posting rubbish to reply to your rubbish of saying you work with Pap's girlfriend.
You go around the rumour threads to stir trouble & gloat on your own forum about it.
You said Brad Scott had the Saints job. What, you worked with Scott's partner too?

Spare me pal. You've sucked in our mods as they deleted my post but left yours on here.
Congrats for that alone.

I don’t think pick 8 (or 5 or 9) is overs.

Papley is 23 and one of our best players, not to mention contracted.

Top 10 pick would be a minimum imo, and pick 8,9, or 10 I would still be unhappy.

First rounder +2nd rounder for Papley + our third (or 4th)...

Still don't want to lose him though!

It isn't so much that he's one of our best players, although he is.

It's the type of player he is. There are perhaps 3, maybe 4 players in the competition who can perform that role to his standard. That makes him more valuable from a supply/demand perspective (same as why Hannebery and Mitchell were less valued).

I think the biggest issue would be losing a really good player who is about to enter that sweet spot of his prime.

The problem with our list for the last 3 years has been that gap between young fringe players and older players. The last thing we can afford to do is lose a good player who is about to hit that middle range, let alone 2 with Jones.

How do you know?

Carlton Football Club are a joke.

have a read of this.

"Carlton is having issues working out who they want to target in the upcoming trade period, according to SEN Breakfast’s Sam Edmund.
The Blues have a number of people behind the scenes with a say in who they should approach in the trade period and Edmund believes there are disagreements going on at Ikon Park.
“They’ve gone nowhere on the pursuit of Tom Papley. The Swans have been really strong that he’s staying put, we know he’s contracted for four more years,”

“The mail is the Blues aren’t on the same page in some cases and that’s causing some confusion, but it certainly does seem as though they’re all-in for Papley.”

HOOLEY DOOLEY! Hehehehe.................

I think the fact that we are a (seemingly) desperate buyer would give the swans an advantage to pull for more.

Every man and his dog knows that we are in the market for a small forward, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see Harley and Co squeeze us for more.

I think 8 is fair though.

After the GC PP & GWS Green matching your pick 8 becomes pick 10

Thing that has me doubting Paps is the fact he’s done nothing to stifle all this talk. If he was committed to the club and to honouring his contract, how hard would it be to shut it down in one fell swoop? Like Parker did on Instagram last year.
Yes I've thought the same thing.
I know someone who knows Papley on a social level and he made out to her that he was pretty happy here in Sydney- living his childhood dream was the actual terminology.
He also never bothered to mention to her- or her friend whom he got pretty up close and personal with, that there was a GF in Melbourne ;)

probably best he does stay in Sydney for a while then..

I like Paps and want him to stay but if we got pick 8 (or 10?) for him we should take that and run. The club won't be planning on staying down the bottom for long. Along with our pick 5/6, that's either two top 10 picks to use in the draft in the one year we're down here, or two top 10 picks to use to land an Angus Brayshaw or Brad Crouch. Win/win scenario.

Took a while for Parker to do it though (Really enjoyed it when he did). Maybe Paps is enjoying the speculation and having his profile out there earning him potential dollars for the next contract. Who knows but it's really only to satisfy the fans to quash this stuff.

he could feel the contract stifles the talk

When joining all the dots on this, I think Papley has a lot more on his plate than responding on social media at present.

At that moment in time in his mind he didn't have a GF in Melbourne! Maybe he's toying with the idea of trading up to a Sydney girl?
