Gotta love this place. We've all be crying out for a decent ruck. One of our most pressing needs. The possibility of the best ruck in the league coming to solve that problem and the position is overrated...

So which one is it?

Never change big footy.
Good call and then there are others demanding we have to got Daniher (a crock that can barely get onto the ground) and lose 5 and Papley.

Go figure.

Why would a mother of a player open her mouth about that

Bulls**t imo

And why would a mother of a player know that in the first place.

This weeks trade radio and reporting with it has been a free for all and while the AFL wants a rolling off season coverage that covers months they must be thinking that it’s getting out of hand now.

And the number of flags collected by Brownlow Medallists Fyfe, Mitchell, Dangerfield, Priddis, Cooney, Buckley.

Not to mention scrubs like Skilton, Paul Kelly, and Gary Ablett Senior. Or maybe premierships come down to far more than just 1 person, and a lack of flags means absolutely nothing when assessing the quality of the players I just listed.
I'm not saying that you need to win a flag to be validated as an elite player.

What I'm suggesting is that you don't need an elite ruck to win a flag.

Contrast that with every single premiership winner of the last 20 years who had multiple All Australians at other positions on the ground.

Guess how many premiership ruckmen have been named AA over the same period?

Exactly. Dean Cox is the only truly excellent ruck to win a flag in recent memory (Grundy came very close 12 months ago to be fair).

It's just a reality - you don't need one of the best rucks to be a great team, you just need a competitive/competent one (or combination).

It's a known you don't need a great ruck - history has shown that - but this does not disprove you can't win one with a great ruck - as history has also shown premierships can be won in multiple ways

Shaun Rehn - multiple premierships/All Aust - one of the most dominant players/ruckman of his time - you could not get the ball past him. Despite multiple ACL's, named as one of the crows greatest players.

Hope you don’t mind me posting here.

Just wondering if you can tell me more about Zak Jones? Do you rate him? Do you see him improving? Is his kicking as bad as some say? Are you unhappy about possibly losing him and what’s he worth?

Any responses will be much appreciated.

No new contract for menzel yet. Still on the updated free agent list

We haven't even announced any list changes/delistings beyond the retiring veterans. Generally by this stage we would have had an initial announcement on the first few. I'd say the club is holding off on a bunch of decisions until it is a bit more clear what is going on with the trade ins and outs.

Hope you don’t mind me posting here.

Yes. Yes. Yes. No. Yes. Late first round or early second round draft pick or a comparable quality player.

Whether you want Grundy or not, you can't deny that there will be some excitement among fans and some optimism if he comes here. Sure it might not work out but bringing in the best ruck in the comp will provide a spark to the side.
Plus a few mids might think us a destination again.

Many of us rate him, and are annoyed he is leaving, especially as he is moving into his most productive phase having matured physically and started playing more time in the mds. He's real quick and takes the game on. That speed will be sorely missed as our side might be a bit one-paced without him.
Others not so fond of him.
His kicking isn't a strength, but is liveable and not the worst we have, his decision making can be dicey at times - I don't mind that. He has a go.
Great value if you get him for a second, I think he is worth a pick in the 12 - 15 range at least considering his development is behind him, but understand contract status plays a part.
If he wants to be in Melbourne due to family etc - all the best to him.

Out of contact and wants to head to Victoria if the rumours are to be believed. I'd be surprised if we could get a pick that high for him in that context. We don't hold any real leverage.

Yeah looks like a second rounder of some kind, maybe next year for the academy picks.
Really think the compensation should match the initial pick somehow. If someone wants them, and are willing to pay them above average salary then the compo should be at least what you spent to get them IMHO - this system would really help equal the comp with the go-home factor killing teams like the GC, Freo, and to a lesser extent us.

The time factor in developing a player, the discount factor in the hit and miss nature of draft selections v the guarantee of getting a vet....the system is skewed heavily in favour of the teams (usually in Melbourne) able to pick off talent.

Apparently GC put forward a big report on how the system has them at a systemic disadvantage - it would make for interesting reading.

Changed my prediction .Rekon Jones will sign for 2 in the end. Strikes me as loyal, so if a fair deal can’t be struck, he splits the middle. Repay the faith a but, still young enough in 2 years to try again.

Woah there Bedders.
I wouldn't have thought the thread is exciting enough to get off.
Bedders true identity.

I should point out, that's the draft thread waving the shirt.
