here we go, sam edmund update on hsun. papley crew laying on the emotional blackmail.

-- Tom Papley was so unhappy in Sydney last season he questioned whether he wanted to keep playing the game.

Papley’s desperation to force a trade to a Melbourne-based club is underpinned by a desire to get out of Australia’s biggest city and a family health concern.

The Herald Sun can reveal the goalsneak’s blossoming form for the Swans masked a troubled off-field lifestyle.

Papley was unhappy with his living arrangements in the Harbour City and felt isolated at times. ---

There is no way we would hold him if there was a family health concern we are very adamant on player welfare.

I also cant believe Sam Edmund would post a article like that shocking stuff.

really? So we should just give him to a competitor club so they can better and we get worse?

If he doesn't like sydney, he can retire and go back to plumbing.

I am not sure what is so 'shocking' about anything in the article. Seems deliberately vague and just an attempt to force us not to hold him to his contract.

Yep, very poor form from Sam. You'd hope he has reliable sources.

The use of the words "Australia's biggest city" is hilarious. If Paps moves to Melbourne, the focus on him will only intensify.

Wants to get out of the city?
Then why has he re-signed three times, as recently as a bit over 12 months ago? Isolated? Goodness me.

If there is a serious family health issue yes Family > Sport.

I'm surprised he couldn't find a few more reasons for Papley wanting to leave, that grab bag of misfortune and discontent hardly seems sufficient to want to go to Melbourne which is a big city a couple of hours from his "home". Poor isolated Papley seems to be enjoying his off season with team mates. Melbourne media, what a bag of crapsters.

Hoping that the rumour the Swans board have vetoed trading Papley is true. We don't need to be bent over my Melbourne clubs and media all the time.

Its happening!

Honestly sounds a bit like Edmund is just throwing a few things until one sticks

This was in there too:

Andrew Capel, The Advertiser
Riley Knight is the latest Adelaide player exploring his options as the great Crows exodus continues to gain momentum.

The out-of-contract 24-year-old has met with Sydney coach John Longmire and has interest from Carlton and is not deemed a must-keep player at Adelaide.

Also, who is Tim Michell lol

Just Now:

Barrett on Trade Radio: Swans are adamant they are keeping Papley.
Also Barrett on Trade Radio: Swans are chasing Daniher and the picks 5 and 9 are a part of the deal.

They frankly haven't a clue, just guessing and making up a story cause as they noted they've asked Harley on the show 5 times a day for the last month and haven't heard back.

Lloyd did note how good Papley is and how important he was for us - "our best player in the first half of the season".

The story from Sam Edmund sounds like (without having read it) just a word from Papley's manager - doing what you'd expect them to do.

Bunyip is 1 hour down the monash from Melbourne but is also very isolated from the city. A developing area but still a country town imo, a beautiful place, so what he wrote does make sense to some degree. However I would not just let him walk. He has a contract. Make him honor it.

Dont want to hold players against their will... every year you go through the home sickness merry go round. Brings alot of attention and can cause disharmony in the locker room. Why would you want someone at the this great club if they dont want to be there.

Id prefere to keep paps..but if he wants out..fine...thanks for your service and good luck ik the future should be the message

no one wants to hold players against their will, but that doesn't mean we are just going to give him to carlton for what they see as a 'fair' trade.

This is supposed to be a serious professional competition.

We get bent over every time a vic player walks out uncontracted, it can't happen this time.

Carlton can give us two 1st round picks, and if not he can stay. If he is unhappy, he can sit out of football for a year and we will revisit it next trade period where the price will be exactly the same.

I'm also very skeptical of that report, but the biggest city in Australia thing I don't think is about attention and media focus, but lack of support around him as he's used to. He's from Bunyip which has just over 2,000 people in it and may prefer that pace of life to a big city. I'd get that, and it makes sense from the little bit I've learned about Papley since he got to the club. Kids not from the centre of a CBD can have problems adapting to living in a city, totally fair.

I'm just not sure I buy it completely. For the many reasons that have been listed since. He's re-signed multiple times, he appears to be much loved by his teammates and the club, so much so that he got put into the leadership group less than 12 months ago and he just played a career best year.

The isolated part seems like a bit of mayonnaise on top of the legitimate desire to want to play in Victoria again. Without sounding too cruel, save us the media-leaked sob story to put pressure on the club. You signed a deal and the club values you.

If Papley is so desperate to get "home" for all those reasons, why did he limit his chances by nominating a single club? Surely any Vic club would have been fine?

Smells like ******** to me.

Ok, so I met his Dad. Two years ago his Dad told me that Paps loved sydney and in fact sydney was the best place for him. Paps is a ripping young guy with many friends in Melbourne and a great appetite for fun with his mates. The concern with him was that he would struggle to remain focused in Melbourne and that Sydney would give him the best balanced environment. Maybe that has all changed now, I don't know.

I would also add that the swans environment at present is absolutely awesome, especially for the young guys. There is a wonderful group of players and a very competent and supportive group of staff. They have a lovely time working hard, but also enjoying the eastern suburbs together. You only have to see paps with will hayward to see some of the bonds that have formed.

To be honest I think any move by paps would be primarily commercial.

The way the 'go home to family' story is constantly run now for every player that wants to move back to Victoria is nauseating to be honest. I'm sure in most cases it is overplayed in the media - but by gee it gets tiring to listen to all the time...

Footballers have some of the absolute best working conditions you could ever hope for, especially those that are above 'baseline quality' (I.e. on decent contracts) yet its portrayed like they are a slave down the mine if, heaven forbid, they signed a contract with a club in another city and that club wants to hold them to it. Don't sign the bludy contract in the first place if your such a mummy's boy.

Paps could ****en suddenly hate Sydney and the swans etc

But the media don’t know

Anyone could guess

I’ll guess he got a parking fine he doesn’t want to pay so wants to flee
