My trade period:

Logs onto BF, listens to NAB AFL Trade Radio, memorises every stupid ad, listens to 6PR, criticises everything I read and hear, rinse and repeat.

The only constant is that come the deadline, there's a South Korean with balls the size of Texas out and collars popped.

I can't wait for this off season's Chronicles.

Nope. Freo/Fyfe not keen on the lottery. The rebuild is done, we’ll be selling the farm this year.

Could be something like 2 first rounds and a 3rd rounder for Kelly & menagola.

Dont reckon the board, CEO or new coach will agree with you.

Four first round picks is GWS territory.

In: Trade Period
Out: Work productivity

Me thinking to self: “Barrett, Morris, McLure. Disgraceful journalists who pass off half baked rubbish from the internet as fact. Shame on them”.

Also me: “Clear my schedule for the next 3 weeks. I’ll be focussing on trade radio full time. Better than Christmas”.

I’m looking forward to seeing who Snuffaluphagus decides is the replacement for Rosich.
I said last year that I wouldnt be able to do it due to work, then I got a promotion (if these guys review my browser history and worked out my productivity boy would I be in the shit) and actually need to work harder this year but at this point I'm committed. You gotta give the people what they want!!!!

Very high chance all chronicles are written at night though

I do have the inside word on why Rosich was kicked out and Bell doesnt have much time for Micallef, hoping to drop as a prelude over the weekend

If you heard Ryder's decision to leave Port and go to St KIlda was because he wants to play with his cousin,Brad Hill. So going by that ,he obviously knows something and it would appear that Brad is going.

Whateley was talking trades today. Assuming that if/when Hill goes and we get pick 6 to add to our pick 7 already (assuming also GC gets pick 2) we have a really strong hand.

worst case we go to the draft and pick a couple high end kids.

Whateley made a fair point that we could also go shopping and see what prys loose. Who would we target?
With those picks and some money free, could we shake loose an exp mid to partner Fyfe? Similar to the situation last year with Neale and Brisbane and an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Maybe someone like Brad Crouch, Angus Brayshaw, Swallow, etc etc. not saying we throw both picks, but there’s some power there to potentially make something happen.

I am not sure how having 6&7 changes anything. The really difficult part of attracting quality players is convincing the player to leave. If you do that, then you can almost always find a way of coughing up the trade cost.

If there is a gun player willing to move, we have probably been aware for some time unless somebody has had a recent change of heart. Even then, the extra pick does nothing that this years and next years first couldn't do just as well.

TLDR: saying we should "package" picks 6&7 to go shopping is lazy at best.

Fun police. Get all outraged at it if you like, however, it’s not a bad position to be in at all.

Of course Freo would have to convince someone to come to the club. This is obviously a hypothetical though.

Pickett’s in, let’s go get McIntosh. He’ll be pretty peeved right now, well down the list at the tigers. Surely Richmond would be sympathetic, he’s missed out on both GF’s!

The rebuild is done?? Mate, you are living in la la land.
Agree, we're not done with the rebuild and should hit the draft, however I agree with Freo1997 in that the club will be feeling public pressure to perform and may sell the farm to become finals relevant. Big mistake if we do because a half done rebuild could just lead us back to where we are right now.

Just because you bring in a few trades does not mean the rebuild is finished. Sydney, Hawks and Geelong in particular show that good experienced players can be worth way more than the draft pick given up. The draft is a lottery, you really have no idea how these kids are gonna turn out, I'm really shifting towards preferring trades over speculation.

On a related note I am in favour of raising the draft age by one year for any player not taken in the first round. You can still take a gun 18yo in the first round if you want but all picks after that should spend a season in their local adult comp. I think it would help clubs select the right players and help players mature before they have to move interstate or become full time pros. Will also help the standard of WAFL/SANFL/VFL and tie those kids to the club a bit more. I don't see the point in drafting an 18yo Toby Stribling at pick whatever and cutting him 2 years later.

There aren't that many trade temptation that really tickles our fancy this year though. The biggest immediate need is ready to go A-Grade midfielders and all that's really left is Kelly and I've my doubts on whether we'd even get close to value over likely cost for him. Maybe someone else has some ideas who might be gettable and fit that burning need.

We also spent up big on trades last year, so alternating back to the draft this year makes sense as well.

The big question is how much can we squeeze out of the current midfield options on the list. It'll be interesting how much of a leap the players entering their third years make.

I would like us to chase Brandon Ellis. Not an A grader, but he would off set the loss of Langdon to some extent.
