People talking like Strnadica was a jet. Yes he was steadily improving but he was hardly ripping apart the WAFL like Tabs was last year. With the selection of Lobb he became surplus to needs.
I'll admit that I have not seen Nads play since his u18 year, but his stats in the WAFL this year s*** all over Jones' and Meek's (probably Ape's as well).

Turns out the actual number is 51
My 70+ came from pasting another list into excel and not noticing it was counting some merged cells as 2.
Do I accept culpability or blame the original formatter of the Wikipedia page?

Anyway it's still alot.
I agree. And looking at some of the names....OMG...I dont even know who some of them are!

Nor is jones or Meek.

Jones and Meek are both contracted. Unfortunate timing for Strnadica. Fortunate for Jones.

Also I've watched both Meek and Strnadica at training. In the ruck Meek in his first year is already comfortably ahead in the ruck duels. IMO Meek also goes harder at the loose ball. I think he will be faster and more agile (Not saying much) than Strnadica who has had 3yrs in the system now.

I feel quite confident in saying Meek projects as a much better ruckman than Strnadica. Whether Meek can be capable when resting forward is yet to be seen. But as the ruck/fwd Strnadica is behind Lobb/Apeness/Tabs. Surplus to needs.

We'd be a bettter team by delisting Jones and paying out his contract and replacing him with nobody.
Harsh..... but probably true. I think a competitive and strong Peel outfit benefits the development of all of our players. An unbalanced Peel team (Too many talls) hurts everyone.

Freo - Darcy & Lobb
Peel - Meek & Apeness
--- Tabs can also pinch hit as the fwd/ruck.

I would love for us to draft a 7ft American athletic beast that we can throw in the Peel reserves to develop. Hit and miss lotto that doesn't cost the club much.

This assumes no one is injured... our ruck and forward players are always injured, so need backup!

We still have Sandi for this year aswell.

Sandi - Darcy - Lobb - Meek - Apeness - Jones + Tabs can pinch hit aswell.

How much backup do we need? Other sides don't carry 7 plus rucks.
The argument was about us recruiting two more rucks last year when we has a young guy developing on the rookie list. It basically meant (and it turned out that way) that he would have very little chance of being held onto. They were told to fight it out for positions on the list but one was at an immediate disadvantage.

I don't get the Jones hate on here / constant delist predicting.

A big step going from WAFL > AFL as a 23 year old when he was probably working full-time and football was a hobby. Obviously that situation will make him comparable or at worst a tad less prepared to kids who in that same year are doing everything they can to be drafted if they're not already a full-time footballer. So not really worth judging.

I think this year he came in and did his job, that's it. He wasn't amazing, he wasn't bad but he just did his job fine.

Darcy & Apeness - none of them were amazing this year? Darcy gets another LTI then what? Point is, especially after cutting Strnadica we need to continue building and improving this department for when Sandilands is gone, which can be sooner rather than later. I don't see given our history how we can afford to make another change here.

Also I think Jones is about 100% more likely to play more games for us and be serviceable depth compared to Apeness in the long run. I don't see why Jones shouldn't be given another preseason to help improve his fitness, which really is his only flaw which is having a bit of a flow on effect on the rest of his game.

I think its the fact that as a ruckman Jones was so slow that he actually couldn't make it to boundary throw ins after starting right next to his player!

It was incredible, I had never seen it before!

Not happy that Strnadica has been cut. Saw a bit of Peel this year and he was the most impressive of the rucks.

Hope he gets re-rookied or, failing that, gets picked up at another club.

The list management this year has me scratching my head. Re-sign Bennell, Balls and Sandi when all three are not the future.

De-list Sheridan who is miles better than Giro or Crowden and no worse that Colyer. To top it all off we de-list the most promising young ruck we have after Darcy.

Agree with you on Ballantyne.

If the last 3 premiers are anything to go by though they illustrate the gap between the Premiership team and the 10th team are minimal. If everything clicks in 2019 do you want a fit Sandilands and Bennell in your 22 for a final at the MCG? For me the answer is a clear yes.

You're writing Giro and Crowden off early, both showed good signs at times this year.

So fitness like I acknowledged, will need another preseason / year of football to be fairly judged and if it's still that impactful then yes he can go. I don't think we should be cutting him or Apeness, none of our rucks after Sandilands are exactly amazing or proven to be reliable at this stage.

That literally didn't happen. The dude wouldn't even get a wafl game if he was that bad

Not fitness, it was happening at the start of games, just 0 speed at all

I don’t hate Jones, in fact I suggested both he and Ape be delisted with a view to re-draft one of them.

Perhaps they can both train for the 3-weeks leading up the drafts for that final rookie spot. For all I know Jones could have been on a Max Gawn training regime over the past 8-weeks and hitting all sorts of PB’s.

What frustrated me most about Jones was that he was playing s*#t when he got the call up and was also ordinary when back at Peel. Go and look at the stats. Most games was around 4-6 possessions. He also finished the season for an important game we needed to win to qualify for finals playing in the Peel Reserves.

And finally our list was over stocked for rucks and very tall fwds who also ruck. We had four of them down at Peel one week and got hammered.

Jones is a mature aged pick-up (same age as Ape) and unfortunately for him won’t be afforded the same time as Meeks. Jones for a big lad got pushed around in the ruck far too easily.

For me at least it's not a knock on the player. He just doesn't fit at Peel so what's the point in retaining him. If you've got a 23 yr old playing Peel reserves it's probably a sign that he's a bit surplus to needs.
