how is it for less the next year ? if he comes out and kicks 40 goals the next year and leads their B&F it will cost more ... obviously we cant pay what we dont have but if we can pay we will pay and we will get him in .. Gold Coast will go hard and expect a in their favor trade (as you would expect) but they wont ask for something we can give
Well it does seem that you pay more for contracted players than uncontracted players. History suggests that.

exactly the case ... we can only trade with what we have .. if GC dont accept that then its on them and they look the bad guy ... but if GC say they want our first this year and next years then you say yep sure and get the deal done

Are you honestly giving up maybe two top 5 picks for king? Seriously.

Bit like the Giants traded Boyd for cheap?

They are a struggling club, they have no reason to be doing us favours. He looks like an absolute gun. If we want him we'll have to pay up.

He went 6 in what looks like one a of the strongest drafts we've seen and he's more than living up to that. Next years pick could be anywhere and the draft could be no where near as strong.

I think it's wishful thinking more than anything.

That was more because the Dogs were desperate to have a ‘win’.

Losing Griffin was shocking enough without losing him to GWS (who had already poached a future captain in Ward). They desperately needed a big name in return & Gubby twisted the knife a bit further in to let that appear to happen. They knew Boyd was going home ASAP & didn’t really rate his commitment as a footballer either.

Luckily for us, the Gubster is wearing a RWB polo this time.

either way if Gold Coast don’t get a trade they’re happy with he’ll go somewhere else in Melbourne or go to the PSD and run the risk of being picked up by any other team.
Contracted or not is totally irrelevant. He’s not a free agent. He’s not going to be a free agent in 12 months. Nothing changes.

Contracted is totally different to uncontracted. Either way players usually get to the club they want to. The difference is they can’t hold you if uncontracted. The psd is not being used for crap players let alone king.

Doesn't change the fact that King will cost a lot while contracted. We can either do what the Dogs did and try and have a win or weigh up whether it's worth it.

King is also showing a hell of a lot more than Boyd was. There aren't too many 200cm key PP's that have come on as quickly as him.

Anyone expecting the Suns to just let him walk for a future first are dreaming unfortunately.

if he wants to leave because of homesickness, it’s hard to argue why any Melbourne team wouldn’t be the destination. Otherwise, what’s the difference between free agency or just requesting a trade and getting it granted?
It’s not as simple as you’re making it out to be.

The price will be 2 x top 10 firsts IMO. Maybe a 2nd round back but given their 2nd is pick 19 it may even be a third back. Jake Lever trade is comparable. Whether he leaves this year or next the price will remain the same IMO.

Steven to Geelong for pick 18.
5 to freo for B Hill and pick 8 - 12
S Hill FA
(If we wants to come) B Crouch and 2nd rounder for 18 and 8. (Throw in a third)
Future First to GC for King? Nope.
Realistically we can’t have B King, Hill and Crouch. Am open to ideas. If we give up players we can do it but there aren’t many I would give up. Maybe Dunstan to SA instead of Geelongs first but I like the way Dunstan goes around. Acres to freo? Would you give any of those 2 up. Here’s how it can happen IF we do it.

Steven to Geelong for pick 18.
18 and Acres to freo for Hill.
S Hill FA
(If we wants to come) B Crouch and their first for Dunstan and 5 (Throw in a third)
Adel First and our Future First to GC for King?
Thoughts?

Well it has been lately. How many uncontracted players don’t end up at the club they want to go to. At least there is recent history of contracted players being forced to stay. Kelly and Steven last year

When these un-contracted stars are given a new contract to sign they then really think about what club they want to play for.
Seems like Goldstien was offered his and it might not of been to his liking so he is back talking to the Saints again.
Coniglio was favored to go to the Hawks , however now they are talking Carlton could be the club , but don't rule us out yet as well.

Our moves this off-season all come down to where we see ourselves in terms of competing for top 4 and whether players have a spot in that projected team or not.

From Premiums a 'Cogs away from the premiership', Pluggers '8 players away from Ormond reserves' or Gringo's 'who cares because we'll stuff it up regardless' our list guys will have their view.

They obviously think DMac has a spot, they don't think Dunstan is likely to have one in the long term it seems, but when it comes to Bruce Carlisle etc. it's a case of whether they see us at the pointy end while they're the right side of 30

Regardless they will want to be able to be competitive-ish in the meantime to help sell hope. This year we've proven that the kids can get us by and the majority are likely to improve each year so I don't reckon we'll be as desperate to keep the 27 year-olds as this board thinks....

Makes sense. Was laughing at your 2nd pargrapf. So accurate.

1. At what point does someone lime Ross come into consideration if at all?

2. Also if we landed Bing, would we need Bruce?
1 - immediately
2 - the boys seem to really get around bruce, I feel like we'd be trading him out at our peril for that reason mainly.. But if Max can have a real impact next year I think a bruce trade could gain some legs again.

Also I feel like bruce's main group is more the older(ish) players, and to be honest I don't know if we should be respecting them as much as the clark/king/coff/gresh/battle generation where we appear to have some real stars. The older group is more Billings (gun), sinclair, newnes, ross, membrey (gun), geary, spook etc...

Though it's hard to tell from my keyboard vantage point. If it doesn't fracture the group too much, I think a bruce trade should be at least considered, though he is playing very well and would be hard to replace

That’s my point gringo if we were in the sweet spot for a gun mid it would make sense to just hold the pick hit the draft but imo we’re not.

There are plenty of mids that are in the range though. When we still have shit mids and Bing, then the next gun mid is drafted after our spent pick, I will whine loudly though. And when King is the new Kosi I expect to be able to blame you all for encouraging our dumb arse list managers.
